May be a daft question but why don't you fellas use garden forks , or maybe you do but I haven't seen you using them . We use them all the time when digging bottles , be lost without one . I know privys are tighter areas to dig in but I see a lot of American diggers chomping away at bottle dumps but no fork . Just wondered why that would be . We are all different and nothing wrong in that , different techniques for different folks . Keep at it , great videos and love those early Pontils .

Paul Cook usually the Pontil pits evade us so you are correct we was not properly prepared for digging Pontil bottles. Going back tomorrow and will have the proper digging utensils. Thx brother and Happy Thanksgiving

On the way back stopped at a big dump I know about . Found a aqua crown top from 1890-1900 a clear Hutch from the same company. Also found several embossed medicines. Crick Diggers Inc. yes it’s EXTREMELY hard to find. Especially now that most of everything is covered in concrete, in Cincinnati. Well I’m sure that’s the case in every urban area . My question is how do you go about asking permission. We dig privys and cisterns all the time , my basement is stuffed with glass. Lol .. But NONE is pontil, that’s all been dug, unless ya ask the owner if ya can dig up a bunch of 19th century shit in his yard .. Again, how do ya go about asking? If ya don’t mind me asking. What type of people am I’m looking for? Like a house not kept up , usually good folks though they may not have a lot, they seem to be nicer regarding other things.., But no yuppies, right.. idk ..lol I may be way off ., lol 😂

Lies, Lies, Lies other then Jesus Christ I get asked a lot how we get so many awesome permissions, and it just comes down to proper and detailed communication along with confidence. Approach the house and right off introduce yourself. Depending on the demeanor of the homeowner I’ll ask about there house, if they know where the old outhouse sat or any major development has been done. I’ll talk about bottles and method we use to excavate the bottles. I always reassure them that we will leave their yard nicer than we found it. I refer them to my Facebook page as well as Instagram and KZfaq. We also have business cards we hand out for the nicer kept yards. Never dress in your digging gear but have it handy if you get a yes dig it immediately. Another good tactic I’ve discovered works well is asking for permission to probe for the outhouse. Explain probing and how it works, show them the probe, and even demonstrate in their yard for them. Just be friendly and get a good reputation built up with the locals. Everyone I talk to on a daily basis I tell about our channel and our hobby/passion. You will still get no’s that’s part of it , but be persistent. Those no’s will turn to yes’s before you know it if you are no sneaky and just communicate. Good luck man hope you land a good one.

I thought about pics like a FB page , The thing is I need to find my first , then show em I’ll fix their yard.. come back after it settles, put some top soil on, straw , and seed. I’m about tired of sneaking into overgrown yards with abandoned houses. That and ROCKS. Lol If you’ve ever dug in Cincinnati, you’ll know a privy probe and regular shovel just doesn’t cut it in most cases. It’s back breaking pic axe and small hand tools to pry up the hundreds of rocks. How the bottles survive with all those rocks on top is beyond me. Lol

Private property only for us brother, state can’t say anything. Yeah forget all that state ground hunting permits and poopie. We have never had any issues with anyone trying to take our finds. If they are very valuable you won’t ever see them lol. Thx for the continued support brother

We do try most of the time but this one had so many roots that we couldn’t quite open it all the way. When we go back it’s getting opened the entire length. We think it’s about 10 feet long. Prob a 3 seater

Filling in is less than 10 minutes usually. We fill till we can drag the tarp to the hole and dump it in. Very fast method lol. Glad you enjoyed the show and thank you for your continued support friend

Yes I will toss them aside for someone else. Already have close to 2000 bottles so can’t bring them all home unfortunately. A privy is an old outhouse that was used as a bathroom.

I can’t respond to your first comment about if we have permission first? Absolutely we have permission before digging in someones yard. Also we are very professional in cleaning up our area and making it look as if we were never there. We also run two live auctions a week. We was digging a privy in Cumberland last year and we was pulling some really awesome stuff out including a squat soda. All of the sudden the homeowner came out and told us we needed to fill it and not dig anymore so we did😊 end of story. Never was given a reason but if that house ever becomes abandoned we know exactly where the privy is.

Correct and you can actually feel the different layers after you have done it far awhile. And lastly the sample , it never lies, you see brick, ash, or seeds, dig a hole it’s either a privy or a trash pit.
