His production and Rise’s professional packaging made me think as a kid that these bands were recording in big fancy studios. Didn’t realize it was all DIY

Honestly all of the records Sturgis produced during that era are phenomenal. At least all of the ones I've heard. The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandria, and Of Mice and Men all come to mind as incredibly influential for their time. Seemed like every band wanted to be Asking Alexandria the summer after that debut. And the Of Mice self-titled was just fire sonically. I remember blasting their CD in a Walmart parking lot, air guitaring the riffs, and a couple in the car next to me stops so the boyfriend can ask who I was listening to. I'm sure there are a ton of records that are slipping my mind atm that are from that era with identical recording techniques from the same time with the same equipment and musical sensibilities. But in the late 00's when a metalcore band got in the studio with Sturgis, you could expect the richest sounding thick guitars and punchy drums that hold up like a fine wine to this day.

That was one of the best sounding albums of its generation. I used that album to introduce friends to metal in high school. A lot of people knew disturbed and avenged sevenfold, Prada was a stepping stone into the harder stuff

Joey set the standard for late 2000's/early 2010's metalcore production and it was all DIY with trial and error.

@@kupo2020 from what I remember he rode a bike there, drank tons of coffee and produced bangers. One key moment was him showing us a porn dvd someone left and I nabbed it. not sure where it ended up but it's pretty funny to think about.

old myspace was amazing I don't understand why they keep it the way it is now. Like if someone would just completely copy the old myspace and fix some things about so it can be used on mobile and maybe add an event calender and just call it mypage or something you would make millions...
