EA/Respawn were too busy with selling expensive skins, they never cared about hacking & cheating in Apex Legends.

The craziest part is that after it happened once we were told we had to play more games. I was genuinely scared to keep playing and they were just hoping it would randomly stop.

The crazy part is the person already took the responsibility of it and Respawn made a statement that the tournament is postponed until further notice

This is something that happened with plants vs zombies garden warfare, people were given exploits, others got their whole ea account banned. I think ea genuinely is hacked and they just don't want to admit it

Fortunately for the players, the hacker did probably the least damaging thing as well as made it known they were hacked. Could have stolen their browser sessions and potentially lose their various accounts (nothing stopping them), could have installed ransomware and other loggers and junk (could be in hibernation tho), and other malicious actions... I hope they are wiping out those computers, who knows how far they have been compromised.

I’m not even surprised. As a former apex player cheats can happen. I knew about this for years and some as other players. There was this one old tweet by a former ranked designer who made an analogy of a coffee shop meme where masked robbers robbed a coffee shop and the community blames the coffee shop similar to how they blame respawn for the hacks. Of course they’re going to hate on respawn, their security is like a Cheetos lock.

One of the last halo games i played was with a bungee employee and he turned on some hacks too.

"Destroyer2009", the main man responsible for the hack, has been terrorising the apex scene for months now. Before this, he would stream snipe streamers with hacks (in the highest levels of ranked btw) for the sole purpose of forcing them to end the stream. One of his most famous cheats before this was one that used 20-30 bots that would get in a streamers game and punch them out as soon as they land. other cheats he was confirmed/most likely to have a hand in creating/using is one that forced people to reload their gun if they tried to shoot, one that allows to user to fly around just by punching the air, another that allowed him to throw down thousands of abilities at once to crash the server, one that allowed you to dual-wield weapons, and likely some of the "lag switches" I wouldn't take destroyer's word that this is an RCE as, given his character, he would obviously say that to get people off the game. It's more likely these 2 streamers downloaded some sort of malware that he was able to tap into

Sorry to say this, but this is a huge wake up call for every company out there. To everyone watching this video, this won’t stop. To every company out there, this was bound to happen, one way or another. And EA was definitely one of the first, but simply not the last. I’d say the person or group that hacked into EA, or their servers or something, have either a grudge with EAC, or have something more.

Cheating has become so tolerated in fps games that it won't matter much to the unknown gamer to use "hacks". They will play victim when they get caught claiming cheat software was installed, opened, and used all while being an unknowing participant. Any tournament where you can use your own device is suspect.

The bigger conversation should be had on kernel level ac. Kernel level anything these days should be looked on with extreme scrutiny.

Any game with ring 0 anti cheat is not protecting you from cheaters, its giving your pc a massive backdoor and at that point you are better off shooting your pc than just "reseting" it

I think respawn might be a targeted developer, All of there titles have been ran to the ground by cheats like no other company or games. Titanfall 2 was unplayable for close to 2 years due to hackers, same with the first titanfall

My account got hacked and banned when I went on thanksgiving break due to someone being able to bypass the 2 factor authentication. Not like origin cared.

There is always the possibity they *did* already have cheating programs installed, and the cheats themselves contained malicious components through which someone could RCE. Always gotta be careful where you get programs from.

a complete restart wont help you. hacker still has root access to your computer. even pulling ethernet or disabling wifi won't help. they still have your historical MAC address and your historical IP Address. You need to get the APEX team involved, especially their cybersecurity department. or if you really wanna get law enforcement involved, you can. they can track historical ip address and mac history and find out who hacked your computer. just give timeline of when it occurred and they'll subpoena records from your ISP. it's not really as simple as you think it is. remember hacking other people's computer, without permission is a felony.

Rule #1 of Cybersecurity: never let a program run as a rootkit (i.e. almost every kernel-level anticheat) This is becoming a problem with gaming, every big name company is pushing for this bs, and this is why I don't play, or even buy these games that use these rootkits. All of my hardware have software firewalls, my nextwork has a physical firewall for my network to protect my servers, all the servers have software firewalls. If they got to me I would know they are top flight (black hat) and I would fill my undergarments with waste as I unplugged everything from the UPS'. That clearly isn't the lower level of this, but companies releasing software thet haven't looked deep into before making public are at fault. Does anyone else fibd it immensely suspicious that Google Maps, KZfaq and other Android apps receive multiple updates per week? Certainly appears they either don't bother testing their updates and apps before releasing them or perhaps intentionally nastyness is added each time or perhaps not...
