Worked in a fabrication shop. We would get orders to build 4 of these, or 6 of these, or 7, or... you get the idea. Our shop leader was fond of saying, "It's only a F up if you only do it to one. If you F em all up the same it's a design feature." 😊

Doug if you tire of this type of work you might go into the Diplomatic Service. You can verbally tap dance thru so many situations it stuns me. This is by far not the first demonstration of your talent to graciously explain techniques, shipping problems, purchases and various other issues. You're so calm and logical plus reassuring that whatever the issue, "you've got it". That's a compliment. Plus your sincere delivery seals the deal. Enjoying your progress as always. Blessings

I'm not any kind of expert but it is clear to me that you take the time to research new ways to do things and you have a very keen desire to do a job the best way possible, even if it takes longer and/or costs more. The soffits look nice and clean. Ready for the siding now.

I raced on the Ironman circuit for a few years and people always freaked out on social forums seeing the volume of training folks would put in vs. what they were doing. All that to say that I admire you guys. The work is always thought out, clean and executed flawlessly.

You have been more than patient with people who think that they know it all or that there is only one way to do things. There are different techniques of building/fabricating principles on both aspects As long as the results are quality, functional, have lasting durability,& esthetics, what's the problem, just because there's another way of getting results doesn't make it wrong.Nothing is set in stone on technique. Those criticisms of your technique, need to stop it.You're a confident awesome builder, much respect .You know what and why you do DIYfferent, and shouldn't have to explain but because you do gains even more Respect.💞✨ You Do You Doug and Ashley and leave the nay sayers to getting schooled on DIYfferent techniques. You have made a beautiful job of the roof, soffits and facias. I like the no nail installation a lot. Less chance of leaks thru nail holes plus it looks so clean and unblemished so to speak, absolutely beautiful work. You have both totally transformed your home in such a small period of time. Just out of interest, what has been your most and least favorite part of the renovation so far? My least favorite job is pluming lol. Not my thing at all. My favorite part is all the joinery jobs, I’m comfortable and confident doing woodwork. Recently I made a new front gate from wood that I salvaged from an old bed frame we were throwing out. I also made a big playhouse in my garden for my grandkids. Again from salvaged wood. I love watching you guys transforming your old, tired and dated house into a beautiful, clean and crisp home. You may not own the property behind you but it is ‘your’ view. That may be even better since you don’t have to maintain it or pay the taxes on it. The beauty is yours too.

I teach high school engineering and that is what I tell my students. There are many ways to complete a task and when they work in groups they end up finding out everyone has their own perspective. The moment they pull everyone's ideas together to make it happen, well, it's inspiring to watch. Good job on your renovation, I have enjoyed watching the process and seeing how y'all do things.

Its funny you still get criticized for doing stuff the "wrong" way, when time and time again you explain you're doing it your way, and not necessarily the right way!, with constant disclaimers that youre doing this rehab the way you wanna do it!! keyboard contractors always have to point out the " correct" way of doing things, just learn to ignore them guys, you're building YOUR house just fine, not theirs!!

Each and every project is a huge value add. Plus it looks awesome! Both you and Ashley should be extremely proud of your numerous accomplishments. The way I view opinions is I rarely ask for them and when I do it is not required that I implement anyone's opinions. Information gathering would be the goal. As you stated I also enjoy researching projects, I view an informed decision to be a much wiser one. I appreciate having access to the wealth of info now available online. I wish that had been an option when I was younger and owned and/or managed rental properties but it remains valuable on many levels. I believe the main reason many viewers express their opinions so freely is due to your accessibility via your channel. You 2 handle the situation with grace and kindness. Your process is right for you. As you so succinctly stated, 'this works well for us'. The end-product is clean and polished. It fits your minimalist style plus it isn't 'overdone' for your home. Re your outdoor view - your family of 4 has the best of all options. It's much like living next to a lovely nature preserve or a park. You can enjoy the bucolic view without having to maintain it or pay taxes on it. Win-win! Thank you for sharing your journey. It is both inspiring and entertaining. I do wish I had a handful of your skills, I would feel so accomplished and proud to be able to complete lingering tasks myself. I look forward to each and every upcoming accomplishment you post.

Very nice, and you guys are correct there’s many different ways of doing something and the way you do it works for you and your home, hopefully people can just enjoy watching your journey and appreciate all the hard work you’re doing to make it your home. We do things differently on our house too. Can’t wait to see it really come together. Great job 👍

I don’t know how many times we heard that when we started our business.. Differently isn’t wrong at all..That’s how things get improved on .. someone sees how to make something better and does it...the view you showed reminds me of where I was raised in Oregon..also places here in Arkansas where I have lived since 1963..
