It's flawed because a cake isn't and will never be "alive", regardless of the state it's in. The argument with a "baby/fetus" is that until it starts to develop the ability to have a conscious experience (a brain), it's not "alive" in a way that we value. Of course you can still say "but if you left it alone, it *would* develop that capacity." And that's true, but now we're just arguing on the timing of that development. If you say "would" it implies "not yet". So if you abort before that development, you haven't "killed" anything that was ever capable of conscious life. With abortion, no one is really arguing that you're not disrupting a process that *would* end with a baby. They just think there's a period during that process where you haven't taken away life as we value it - *yet*.

I feel like the take away here is that you can believe in one side, but still understand the other's perspective. The actual arguments are obviously more nuanced -- it's just not as black or white as people tend to make it out to be.

The one thats gonna be the hardest on is the mother, theirs no biological way to even share the journey. Abortion is a bit more than “i dont wanna take care of a child” “woopsie i didnt use a condom” and more of a health and mental aspect of it (theirs a number of reasons someone might need one) and banning it because people that will never get them (not just men, women too) think its “i dont wanna be responsible for a child, after i had unprotected sex” is incredibly moronic. Banning affects a whole lot more people that the stereotype of the people that they believe get them more, the one banning affects the most are people that had an unviable pregnancy or a miscarriage (if the fetus/baby) didnt pass correctly, and has to be removed, it will be counted as an abortion (because of laws and technicalities) and if its illegal, the person has to either wait with the starting to decompose fetus/baby or they get the operation and then are sent to jail once they are recovered enough. Abortion is not pretty, its not something we can even compare to other medica procedures because their no other like it, instead of making devils out of people that had to get them, we can be a little compassionate, cause its not easy to say “i want an abortion”, if its early on its just doesnt grow and its basically a cell (kinda like how a regular period works) if its later on where theirs a fetus, you will have it on your mind that, (as the analogy) “what could have been”, it doesnt hurt the fetus but that will not stop you from feeling it still. Later abortions (where its more developed and baby like) must be horrible because those only happened to people that either didnt know they were pregnant or expecting parents but either way something went wrong and its not safe for you anymore or healthy for the baby to continue developing, you can try and hope, and no one will force you to have the procedure, but its a lose lose situation (it’s incredibly rare for people carry to term and their baby didnt have an illness or the mother didnt have long term condition or die during it).

@@Bryson402 I think you really need to talk to a conservative. They think that your help comes with a lot of downsides and those downsides produce a net negative. They would use the example of giving someone something vs. the person earning it. People that earn what they have, on the whole, take better care of it. Additionally, when the government gets involved, prices invariably go up. Example: housing, education, medicine. Lastly, there is always a push and pull between government authority and the power of the people. The more authority the government has, the less power the people can exercise before violence is necessary. Good luck in your education!

@@Bryson402 the military is the epitome of wasteful spending, teachers and police consistently complain of too many hours and too low of wages, firefighters often work as volunteers, education metrics for K-12 have shown a steady decline in academic preparedness, since the federal government got involved, and colleges have only gotten more expensive. You're not making a great case for giving the government more authority, if I'm being honest. Is there a sector of the economy, industry, etc., where socializing it has made it better? I'm hard pressed to think of one. As for medical care, it is also one of the most heavily regulated industries in the country. You don't like your current coverage and want government to step in, but they already did, decades ago, made it worse, then encroached further, and made it even worse. You also assume that medical care across the pond is "free," when that couldn't be further from the truth, or that their overall lower cost by comparison is a byproduct of management, when it is really a byproduct of the fact that every other country benefits from the vast amount of money the US puts toward research and development, making it so that other countries don't have to, at least not in anything approaching a 1:1 comparison, similar to the way it is with defense budgets. And how do we know it isn't due to internal management? A few short years ago, it was revealed that in UK hospitals they were burning human bodies to keep the heat going. No, what we've learned is that these countries keep their racket going precisely because the public doesn't see the price tag displayed in their personal bank account, while the managers cynically act like they've got it all under control. As an aside, I truly love Europe, specifically France, and we could definitely learn to do things better from them, such as requiring local produce to be purchased for sale in markets, rather than getting it from the third world, or how they require supermarket food that is past the expiration date, yet still perfectly healthy, to be given to local food shelters. There is a very different sense of community, even in a place as cosmopolitan as Paris. Something else I admire about the French is that they don't differentiate between a French native and an immigrant. Once you are a citizen, you are French, and only French. There's a solidarity there that we can greatly learn from.

If you're baking a cake then you're intentionally baking it because you want to have a cake. When people have an abortion then it's about people who get pregnant unintentionally, who don't want a child. The first ones who get pregnant unintentionally are people who are in an unstable situation. It's people who are addicted, people with psychiatric disorders and who are on medication, people with (mental) disabilities, people in an unstable family situation like abusive relationships, and homelessness. And then we're not even talking about incest, rape and fetuses that are severely disabled (if they were born).

Because one case is a person destroying something against another's will, while the other case isn't. It's a completely invalid comparison for that reason. If you killed someone else's fetus in the womb against the mother's will you'd be charged with murder. If you were making a cake while sleepwalking then wake up and decide to not continue making the cake, you'd be perfectly justified to do so.

@@riesjart1000 you cannot get pregnant on accident, babies do not come from nowhere and appear in the womb, it takes a very specific series of actions to accomplish and the parties involved are entirely responsible.
