The Build Engine has a bug where if the enemy doesn't load up into memory properly it will have infinite health. This can result from numerous actions, one of them being quick saving at the wrong time, then loading from that quick save. Fun Fact: all of the SSI Dungeons and Dragons First Person Perspective games have the same bug. All of those engines came out during the same period, and I think it had something to do with a programming theory that was being used to expand beyond initial limitations of DOS. It took me 20 years of playing Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession before I experienced the bug in the SSI engine. So whatever bug it is it's pretty rare and hard to trigger. I only experienced the bug once in Blood on the train, iirc.

If you ever actually want to play the cursed Randy version, there’s a way to solve the mouse acceleration issues. Go into your video card options, find the EXE for the game, and both turn off V-Sync and set up a framerate cap. (Thanks to the friendly folks in the Steam Discussions for the game for sharing this information.) Or you could just use eDuke, because someone made a stopgap for it (which Civvie has used!) that lets you play the fifth episode with that port.

I remember playing that "death area" for the first time and barely surviving. Afterwards I thought, "huh, that was actually something." and then I found the designer had no intention for you to be able to live, at least your first time and that felt pretty good.

I bought the cursed Randy version on Steam sale and thought I’d play through all the episodes again and then this one. Those guys destroyed me a few times. Also… Randy’s so greasy even Embracer couldn’t hang on to him.

Gotta love how Levellord and Allen basically says how Randy is not THAT good of being a level designer. So now he can't rub and nobody faces that he can even the most decent levels, because normally needs other designers to actually make it work

There's some issues you didn't mention about the cursed Randy version that I absolutely loathe, so here they are: - Sometimes the game will randomly switch into another weapon after you fire a single shot as if you ran out of ammo; - Sometimes Assault Troppers fly somewhere you can't reasonably hit them in levels that are particularly tall; - The scrolling weapon switch is janky and slow so you're better off just using the numbers anyway; - Keycards ocasionally want you to eat shit and won't activate even when you're breathing into the slot so sometimes you'll just have to back away and try to use one at very specific angles, which can be absolutely infuriating if you want to speedrun a level or are trying to escape a room full of enemies when you don't have ammo to deal with all of them; - The issue of getting squished in very specific corners of maps that shouldn't be allowed to do so still happens; - Because Gearbox is full of dumbasses instead of fixing the online play the same issues from the Megaton Edition carried over, meaning that even though you'll hardly if ever encounter lag (unless you play on specific large levels with the Devastator and have the 3D render on, specifically on Duke Match indoors, thanks Randy) and you'll most likely get disconnected often for no reason, sometimes the game tells you it's because the host left (which 9/10 was me when I played with friends, so... Not true) and most of the times the game doesn't even tell you why. For some reason that's a bigger issue in Campaign, doesn't happen nearly as often on Duke Match. Outside of that, great video, enjoyable as always, I pretty much agree that most of the levels are amazing, but the last boss is indeed shit, I wouldn't even mind the fact it's a reskin if it was at least fun, and to make it so all it would have taken was making the arena smaller and the range of the flamethrower longer. Such a shame.

Civie, I feel you're the only person who could, or has the community to, solve a game from my childhood -but cant remember the name of for the life of me. It was an FPS, maybe windows 95 / dos where the basic premise was you created a robot before starting a new game, the skill of the robot assembly was determined by the skill level (hardes difficulty would mean you had to match the placement as accurate). Once in, the basic plot was all of earths children were kidnapped by a witch (I recall this being drawn animation) and after would play similar to wolfenstein / doom. Navigate a castle, find weapons, and shoot supernatural creatures.

For what’s it’s worth I bought this on the Nintendo Switch (this version apparently came out in 2020)and a lot of the issues I heard you talk about were actually smoothed out… it’s honestly my favorite game to play on the Switch now! That and the rerelease of Quake. It certainly is weird playing those 2 games back to back on a Nintendo Handheld System, but hey I’ll take my old school shooters where I can get em and I don’t have them on PC because I don’t have a good PC…

Duke noticed this enemy force was made up of aliens, but not aliens he had seen before. The uniformed soldier yelled “cover me, or get out of the way!” Duke gave support fire and they cleared out the entire office complex, ending with them in an opulent office building, where the mysterious soldier killed a man in a blue business suit. “Good shootin’. I’m Blake Stone by the way.” Duke nodded his head. “I’m Duke Nukem... and you kick ass almost as much as me.” Blake stared at Duke’s sweaty bicep. “Nice arms, mate. You work out?” Duke confused responded “Of course I work out. Being as big as the Duke doesn’t come free.” Blake got closer. “I’ve gotta give one of those a feel.” Duke Nukem stared with an “Uhh...” Blake felt his arms for an unusually long time. Duke, feeling startled picked him up and slammed him against one of the display cases decorating the room. “Look you little British weirdo. Everyone wants to feel the Duke, but I’m only into chicks!” The two action heroes stared in each other’s eyes angrily. “You wanna bet?” a struggling Blake Stone said. “Yeah.” Duke confidently grunted. “Yeah...” Blake repeated back. They moved closer saying “yeah”s back and forth until Duke lunged at Blake, forcing his tongue down his throat. He dropped Blake on the ground and threw off his shirt. “You’re gonna feel the full package. This is the body that kills alien bastards!” Blake undid Duke’s belt buckle. And enormous pink member came flopping out, with shrunken testicles from steroid abuse accompanying it. “Careful, I’ll chip your fuckin’ teeth with this thing.” Duke boasted. Blake then realized that Duke’s blonde pubic hair had been shaved in a nuclear warning sign pattern. “That’s diabolical.” Blake said upon seeing it. Duke, with one motion ripped Blake’s uniform off. Blake’s pubic hair was shaved into a Union Jack shape. “Looks like the British are cumming.” Duke grunted. The two action heroes’ bodies mashed together, like two action figures of meat, sweat and other ambiguous fluids. After several pounding strokes deep into Blake’s thrashed colon. Duke turned him around to suck his own anal juices off of Duke’s member. While Blake was savoring the musty flavors, Duke opened the cabinet nearby, grabbing a replica of a smooth-edged mace. “What are you about to do?” Blake asked. With the serious stare, Duke said “I’m about to get medieval on your ass!” Duke hunched over Blake, slapping him on the ass to get him to arch his back. He rubbed the mace on his opening, gradually getting millimeter after millimeter until it got to its thickest point. After the thickest point, the rest of the mace slipped in with much more ease. Duke grabbed a Gatling gun arm gauntlet out of his backpack that he had looted from an enforcer. He removed the ammo belt to avoid accidents and lined it up with the mace. He interlocked several latches until the mace was locked in. Once it was locked in, he turned on the rotating barrels. Blake trembled from the sensation as several mixing fluids splashed outside of his anal opening. “Man, we really need a third.” Duke grunted. Just then, a hulking man in green armor bursted through the wall, with thrash metal following him. “Rip and tear... Rip ‘n tear! RIP ‘N TEAR YOUR BUTT! Your huuuge. That means your asshole is huge! RIP AND TEAR!” The armored maniac yelled. Duke smirked “This is going to be one Hell of a day.”
