It's because she's a gospel singer. She is known for pouring all of her soul into all her performances. This is a video she made in her personal studio in response to a request from a church in LA during the early pandemic. According to her, she hastily created a youtube channel for her ministry and recorded it. so she couldn't finish mixing this song. The channel on which this song is posted is her unofficial channel and her only social media, and there is only one song.

She puts her heart and soul into every single performance. Some calmness, and some have a few fist pumps and she put every ounce of emotion she can into every performance. She is, in my opinion, the best female vocalist on the planet. She has many lives but also many music videos. Most of her stuff is live though. She also arranges all of her covers herself. She is the master behind all of her masterpieces. She was first vocally trained by Seth Riggs, who was Michael Jackson’s coach. She does not care about fame or fortune. She sings for GOD, and to make others who might be feeling down, to feel better. This is why she is not known except by us picky listeners. Her team says she can sing into the 7th octave, but I have only heard her sing live as high as a A6.

She is one of the five best singers in Korea, in my opinion. She started her career doing gospel, and she now does all kinds of songs. Michael Jackson's voice coach Cedric once trained her when she was in the States. I am glad you liked her.

Nice reaction. Love how very quickly you latched to Sohyang's voice and the emotional context of her singing. Sohyang is my favorite singer purely because of the emotional connection she can establish with her listener. All her musical expertise and vocal gift are all but means to deliver the true message of the performance. While her magnificent skills can amaze and impress by itself, it is only a means to an end.

You will not come across a singer who can emote quite like Sohyang, she has the ability to make you feel, even when singing in a language you don’t understand. You won’t believe just how many colours she has available to her. Technically amazing but just as amazing, or even more amazing, is her ability to tell a story & trust me, it’s not just fake emotions, she really does feel ( I think reading her back story will help you understand why she isn’t the worldwide superstar that her talents surely merit) She can literally sing any genre, rock, pop, the power ballads,blues/jazz & she can also rap (fast) but her heart is in gospel music. She does her own arrangements & often incorporates elements of gospel into her arrangement of songs that originally aren’t associated with that genre. Hopefully now you’ve had the slightest taste of his wonderful woman’s voice you will get to experience all that she has to offer yourself. You are going to really love the rest of her catalog and are going to get a ton of suggestions, many of them from various contest shows she's performed on, but even her smaller scale performances show the commitment to telling the story just as she did here. She has the skills of a diva but you never get the feeling that she's saying "Hey look at me, am I not great?" and instead it's "Let's experience this story together." I am subscribing and look forward to you discovering just how amazing she is. As for the arrangement, I believe she collaborated on this one with her sister in law Jinjoo Lee, who is the guitarist from DNCE and pretty cool in her own right.

This is the first time seeing your channel & my first opinion is that from a ‘music geek’ (in a good way) POV you remind me of another reactor, another lady who knows vocals/music to an unbelievable depth academically, a pro opera singer you may be aware of, Elizabeth Zvaroff. She is a really big fan of Sohyang & gets really excited about the things that Sohyang does with her voice because she truly is no ordinary singer, known as the queen of mix & in Elizabeth’s own words, amongst many others, is ‘anybody that belts should watch Sohyang to see what truly great belting, particularly high belting, technique sounds like’. This is of course in the moments between the parts where sohyang literally brings her to tears. If you want to get a massive ‘hit’ of Sohyang then I suggest you check out her 7.5 min masterpiece of a performance of the song ‘everyone’. This is a song that Sohyang herself readily admits was the hardest for her to perform for many reasons, it’s a long song, esp when yr in the rafters for the majority of it, the range, the colours, finding time to breathe etc. A song which had the afformentioned reactor ms zvharoff both crying & excited like a kid in a candy store at the same time. I think she would like to turn Sohyang in to a textbook so she can show her students how it’s done. Another quote from her was that listenening to Sohyang was just ‘ear candy’ for someone like her. I am certain you are about to be bombarded with recommendations for where to go nxt with regards to Sohyang, everyone has their fav’s but all I can say that she never disappoints & because she has so many options available to her in her vocal toolbox it’s so exciting because you never know what she’s gonna do or where she’s gonna take a song & you’re left hanging on her every word, if you wants dynamics then Sohyang is your lady. I dont where she stores all this talent because, not to mention her lungs because she has breath control to die for, but she is the most petite lady. Enjoy Sohyang because that is het aim, she not driven by fame/fortune ( she has repeatedly turned down the big record companies) instead only hoping that her music will bring comfort & happiness, particularly to those experiencing difficult times. There is nothing fake about her, even when performing, it’s totally organic, which I assume comes from the fact that she has been down to the bottom, really deep down, so when she speaks, it’s from het heart because she’s been there. Sohyang with her years under her belt delivers and connects more to me emotionally. Since her recovery from pneumonia in 2018, she has to prioritize in efficiency as to deliver her best, even if she'd be sick or in the less favorable state during her performance. Nevertheless, she can still maintain her consistency if not even get better than her pre-2018 time. Also, her ballpark is CCM. Her faith in Christ shines whenever she sings. Her Husband must have been otherwise pre- occupied as he is a pretty good Producer/ sound man! I will not lead you down the usual path of her best Performances but start you with 3 of her own songs , that tell you more of who she is! She is a Gospel Singer but loves R&B,Soul, Pop, Jazz ! She also has done Rock and Rap,just for fun! A devout Christian of great Character, strength and vulnerability! A Author of several Successful Fantasy Novels and several life and Faith based books, and is deeply involved in arranging any covers she does! She never wanted to become a singer but after she did, had a Dream to be a Big Star in the American Music Industry! Sohyang is a wonderful artist. I humbly request you react to Angelina Jordan who won Norway's Got Talent at age 8 covering Billie Holiday. Now at age 16 and signed with Republic Records nearly 2 years ago, Angelina remains virtually unknown since her parents requested she be allowed as normal a childhood as possible. Angelina has always created her own arrangements and her covers of jazz classics will always be my favorite. You might want to listen to a young Russian singer - Diana Ankudinova who is 18 years old in this video, singing a very unique cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history.

She and her husband's family released 6 albums and performed in church halls all over the world as CCM band "POS" with their own songs or own arrangements. Some of her current music is still credited to "POS". One Korean composer regularly works on arrangements with them.
