Good day Tom, I have the same rig. What I did was replace the foam to 1" green density foam from the craft store. traced the pattern from the current foam. which I pulled from the inner vest. Its a little tricky but I had to turn it inside out and start from the shoulders carefully feeding it in as I an pulling the vest right side in. Just a tip, and to keep the buckles from moving along with the vest shoulder area, ribs, and waist I use a one inch Velcro to wrap and hold them from moving at each clip.enjoy your tutorials. thanks for putting them up!!!Shawn.

I have mixed feelings about my CAME-TV rig. The vest had rivets popping off (held padding to the frame), and the case is made from cheap particle board. CAME-TV is very responsive to my problems, but there are obviously some quality problems. The hard parts, anything made from metal or carbon fiber, are pretty nice though.

Great video Tom. I've been watching your channel for a long time now. I've been using the glidecam hd-2000 for a while now. First with DSLR's and now I've been shooting with the FS700. The reason I'm looking at this steadicam/vest combo is because the weight of the FS700 on the glidecam really destroys my arm. It takes me a few days to recover afterwards. Does this vest outperform the glidecam series in your opinion? And is it possible to use the glider without the vest if I wanted to?

Are there any power cable adapters that you know of that can power up a D3s from a Vmount battery system? I'm having a heck of a time finding something to use to be quite honest.. Hi Tom, I have really developed a passion for the art of Steadicam. If Im looking to get work for live events such as sports, concerts and broadcasting as a Steadicam operator, how many batteries do professional operators own themselves that are not supplied by the companies producing these projects. Right now the only batteries I have are three BP-900 series that are used to power my jobs xf100 cameras. I live in a small town and before I move to pursue more work as a Steadicam Op' I want to make sure I have all the essential gear to be hired as a professional Steadicam operator. I am considering getting either an Anton Bauer battery or these Comer 160wh Batteries from Came TV. Do you have any preference as to which you prefer and how many a person would need to get for a rig? My equipment so far is- Came TV- Vest and Double joint Arm Opteka SteadyVid SV-HD Camera Stabilizer ( I plan on upgrading to the CAME 2.5-15kg DSLR Camera Steadicam Carbon Fiber Stabilizer) VK7i HD Monitor from B&H Photo 2 Canon XF100 Cameras + 3 BP900 series batteries in which one is used to power my monitor 1 Canon 550D T2i (3 extra batteries for it) I have shared a link to a short video of my steadicam gear with my jobs XF100 camera mounted. I recently used this rig *by accident* on a shoot in the UK, I would strongly recommend NOT buying this brand. I myself run a Flyer rig, designed by Steadicam themselves. There are cheaper alternatives out there (like CAME), but in all honesty, you get what you pay for. The build quality of this rig isn't particularly great. I was flying a fully accessorized FS700 with focus systems too, and I have to say.. it was the most uncomfortable vest design I've ever used. I actually ended up with bruising from the lower vest plate. The Arm is not isostatic, its just built with a spring.. so it doesn't absorb the shock very well. Also, there is no boom in the arm either.. so you're pretty stuck with that one position. Finally, the gymbal was very stiff. I actually ended up using some oil in order to lubricate the gymbal, it was that bad. I usually go by the saying of "buy cheap, buy twice" You won't have a very successful career using cheap tat like that. It doesn't look like there is any design for comfort or support either, just simply cheap materials for a cheaper sale.
@MrIsaacE

I gotta say I completely disagree. This unit is WELL MADE and is absolutely wonderful. Either you didn't balance it right, or you just clearly didn't know how to properly use it. It is NOT cheap I assure you basically everything is either high grade solid steel or sturdy carbon fiber. I highly recommend this unit, but be careful, balancing is very tricky and the mounting plate is comes with only works with light stands not c stands.

Hi Tom! Love your videos. Just subscribed! Question. Would you recommend this system for a Blackmagic cinema camera, or is the vest and arm totally necessary? I don't yet have a monitor but I'm having such a hard time finding a great handheld option. To me, this seems to be the best option, and I'm willing to stretch my budget just a bit. I was considering a shoulder rig, but it seems the steadicams can achieve easier, more fluid movements. I would love to hear your thoughts on going handheld for the Blackmagic. Thanks!

Typically you'd want those connection on the stage on the back, not the front. Running with these rigs is a lot about technique and practice. Cinema Products, which first produced the Steadicam, did an instructional video with Garnett Brown, the inventor of the Steadicam which is an excellent resource if you can find it. I couldn't on youtube but the linked video is another I used years ago. I've used many stabilizers over the years. Steadicam and other brands. This seems like a decent rig, especially for the price. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9plfdansMC0hIU.html

@@dareallyst have you tried yours yet? I’m on the fence about it. My crane 3s gimbal cam fly my 7kg rig just but it’s unusable at that due shape. Does this reallt hurt your back? What’s your thoughts on it so far?
@dareallyst
@dareallyst 3 жыл бұрын
@@airindiana I like it, there’s definitely a learning curve coming from motorized gimbals and very taxing on the lower back. I think my pain was due to the vest and arm I’m using which I already had from another system. I’m thinking about replacing that next to see if I get better results with the setup but overall I’m pleased with it.

@@dareallyst thanks Ryan. Did you get to try the vest and that came with the setup in this video or just struck with the one you had before?

@@airindiana I just stuck with the one I had since they looked identical. Looking at the reviews on the vest, I’ve seen others who have had problems getting a tight fit with it. You have to modify the straps and I don’t have a sewing machine to do it. The other issue for me is adjusting the arm and the block. I need to figure out how to properly balance that part. I feel like the arm can’t handle the payload but it could just be me not knowing how to properly operate it.

ptennisproductions Ive fallen before and never broke my camera or steadicam. I fall face first and save my camera gear from taking the hard hit. I can always heal my face but replacing the camera gear is expensive. Really don't know what else to tell you. In all my years of work on films Ive never seen a steadicam operator fall so hard that the camera gear was broken.
