I stared surfing 5 years ago and have been able to surf 3-5 months, 5times a week, every year since. I travel to surf and work to afford my next surf trip. It’s awesome hearing about the sport from y’all, great podcast! One thing that you guys didn’t really address was the beauty and fun of sitting in the water and just watching waves come to you. Being able to predict where the peak will be, just being able to understand that moment of the ocean. Seeing a wave hidden behind a closer wave and being the only one to paddle farther out because you are the one most in sync with the water and seeing a bunch of kooks confused and then getting caught inside the big set waves or ridding that wave because you saw it way early. Just feels good to KNOW and FEEL the ocean you know 😅

Ben is a class act. I dabble with surfing and still do it when I can (I’m not super young and have kids and stuff). I found Ben’s vlog in 2018 and have been a fan ever since. He’s a humble, genuine, and smart guy, seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Great to hear this long form interview. Regarding the allure of surfing, I think there are certain activities where one can lose themselves in and really be in the moment and very mindful of the experience. The mind is quieter and all the endless mind chatter and ruminations subside (at least for a bit) and you are just one with that experience. I have felt that with surfing, skateboarding, and mostly with playing guitar. Great interview 👍🏼

I started surfing in Florida when I was 15 and got married had a kid when I was 35 which forced me to work hard and I got away from it. Now I'm 46 and I'm back at it . Hooked again and don't plan on stopping. I'm out there ever time there are waves. After work and on weekends whenever.

Was waiting on this one, been sick watching Bens come up from when he had only afew thousand views to seeing his boards over here in my surf shop in Australia. Great ambassador for the sport, seeing Andrew and crew on some of the vlogs I knew this only a matter of time. Been cool watching the shaltzy and crew come up too, one of the few new comedians that actually does this! Bens coming for his spot though after that SUP/stand up joke!

The comment at 9:50 about the energy vs This fun is the big thing. People have to understand that the pleasure to frustration level is very high as a beginner, but once you have that longer wave, and a ride that you have to stand, turn, plane, turn, etc… it will finally get you. It happened to me in 1974 at Pt. Dume in Malibu. Ive been doing it since.

I was a obsessed with skating and wakeboarding growing up . Went to CO to snowboard almost every winter , but I’m terrified of sharks so I’ve never got to surf

I didn’t get heckled at the seaside point but my friend that was watching on the beach said a camera dude got checked. It actually is good but it doesn’t even seem to break unless there is the right swell. It’s usually firing in October

"The 7 Seas" was a phrase long before the oceans of the world were known to people. Now it refers to the 7 oceanic bodies of water: Arctic, N Atlantic, S Atlantic, Indian, N Pacific, S Pacific, & Southern (Antarctic) Ocean.

As someone who lives near Milwaukee, I’ve always wanted to surf and I’ve heard about the Great Lakes being surfable but never tried. Idk if they even sell boards here lol

I surf at ponce inlet, probably the most popular and best spot in Florida and the localism is still pretty bad there. 90% of the guys are chill but the ones that will say something always take it too far

U should always hear what ur mind is telling u before , as ,and everything u do in the sea , 1st rule of surfing is "if in doubt you don't go out " rule 2 " you panic and u will die " rule 3 " ur eyes can't breathe so when ur head popps out of the surf and ur almost out of breath and ur eyes r the one that see ur in the air now and for reasons unknown u take a big breath but ur nose and mouth r still in the water and there's the foam thing too and u take in sea water and I myself throw up instantly and then I'm coaking on sea water and throw up and u get hit on the head by another wave and u may not make it out of that one and that's when time in the water pays off cause most people will panic and that's when people die , ur heart rate goes up and what little air that u still have in u gets used up fast and u black out and drown . So live by the 1st rule " if in doubt u just don't go out " enough said . Aloha

Localism is basically just being proud and protective simultaneously, if the spot is being disrespected or threatened then it should be defended or protected. Regulators gonna regulate . 🫨
