Thanksgiving is a special time for me. It was the beginning of the end of the saddest & worst time of my life. I was lost & wasting my life drinking everyday before I decided to try as hard as I could to be the best person I can. Surfing is a massive part of what has kept me sober & saved me from the miserable path I was headed down. Thank you to everyone who supports me, cares about & loves me. Im addictee 15 years to heroin .25 years to drugs period .im 36 still on methadone and still mess up with the dope .i dunno everytime I try to stop I get insane anxiety for months and always relapse

@@davidreeves8388 I wish there was something I could do my friend. I focused on work, got into the Ironworkers Union and that kept me motivated to keep moving forward without the suffering. I know this is all cliche but please keep your heap up and never give up on trying to kick

@@irondogallen6213 i was suppose get into elevator union but I am horrible at math failed the test .tried to study but doing dope and methadone clouds thr mind plus I work everyday I dunno how I do it but im always broke cuz working shot jobs .but im fuckong tired I dunno what to do anymore .no insirance for rehab but im so deep in the game I dunonif rehab wohld even work anymore

@@irondogallen6213 im from jersey living in south florida all my family dead except my mom who let me stay in her loving room thank god .and my brother who dont like me much lol.and all my friends back in nj are dead or cut me off .i never stole from them im not a bad person just loved drugs all my life and now stuck in a depressed rut from no life being 36 same shit as jobs and i dunno how to move foward because starting from scratch at 36 eith no credit no hope for a good job and no family really just makes me say whats the point of changing now

I've been sober for 3 years. I'd been watching your videos for a couple months leading up to your 2 year anniversary. Your video definitely contributed. Talk about humbling, I'm twice your age, and I didn't figure this out until I was over 60. I've never been happier. I'm totally living the dream. Thanks again, brother!

Great talk Ben! 28 years old here, currently saving up to buy a truck and camper to take around North America, get out of West Michigan, and follow my life dream of living by the sea and surfing. Flirting with sobriety myself as it would help me save up (though my habit isn't terribly destructive). It does cost me money and the weekend hangovers do keep me from doing things that I should. This Michigan winter in quarantine is going to be hell, but here is hoping it's my last. Cheers and thanks for the inspiration.

Glad you got your life turned around Ben. I'm working on 14 years clean now after struggling for many years with substance abuse. Like you, my life really started to turn around when I made the choices I needed to make for that to happen. Keep on doing what you're doing brother! 3 years- stoke! Me? almost 5 years. My wife passed 15 Oct and it broke my heart but left the grog alone- tempted, and realised that to regress would place me in a casket. Kia kaha my friend.

Dude, very well done talking about your alcohol abuse - I can totally relate. What worked for me was a book called “Quit Drinking Without Willpower” by Allen Carr (it’s on Amazon). I first heard about it on Joe Rogan’s podcast from comedian Nikki Glaser’s experience. That book explains the alcohol problem quite well, without being condemning, over the top or providing avoidance techniques. I literally went from drinking every single day, a years long habit to stopping & all naturally - I literally lost all desire to drink in fact, I rarely think about it. Just wanted to share that & maybe it could help others.

Thank you so much for the videos ben. You are a true legend. I'm an alcoholic of 18 years with many failed attempts at sobriety. I hit my rock bottom in August when I nearly died drunk cliff jumping. I am now in a residential program for veterans and on day 6. It's a rough road. You and hob have been such an amazing inspiration to me and I just want to thank you both for the videos and for the dream. Yewww!

Wow thank you Ben. You are truly a wonderful human being. That was one of the most heartfelt things I have ever heard and so very true. You have helped me change my life to be who I always wanted to be. I am selling my house and moving to the ocean and am going to learn to surf. my whole life I was a water skier and skateboarder but i always wanted to surf. So now I'm just going to do it no matter what. Thank you for being an inspiration to be better everyday.

Truth. Words of wisdom. I’ve been through similar and couldn’t agree more. I was at the top and lost everything. You said it’s never too late to start. It’s also never too late to start over again. Thanks for sharing this man. I've been in exactly the same place a few years ago. I knew I enjoyed your videos for a reason other than the surfing. It's not an easy road to take when you are at your lowest point. 2 and a half years sober now and have just bought my first surfboard. Stood up first day. It feels good. Thanks again for your unknowing support to myself and others. The claim is feeling happy and healthy these days.
