Alright I gotta throw my opinion up in here. I’m a contractor 23years experience building homes and I have to say all the comments about the soap are ridiculous. Think everyone who’s watched it needs to rewatch the video… You’ll see the size of the bucket and then the absolute minuscule amount of soap she added🤣?? Y’all are all trippin! Absolutely no issue with paint coverage🙅🏻‍♂️ (All that being said you can’t be an amateur trying that , that’s only for one thin smooth coat. No going over it “unless it’s knockdown or whatever finished texture” Want tips though watch “the kilted guy” he’s got over 35 years experience! He’s a KZfaq legend here

Im trying a texture on a wall that's almost like a mediterain style...A somewhat thick coat in some spots 1/16-3/8 coat thickness variation. I bought plus 3 joint compound. It is cracking on me in spots and im wondering if there are any tricks or additives to prevent from cracking when it dries?

Totally agree with The Kilted Guy... he's a great guy. I've been doing drywall for 14 years now. That whole soap thing I think is dumb, it's just not needed if you know what you're doing. I've tried it, it makes no difference that I can tell, especially with paint adhesion lol primer and paint coated just fine, and after a week held strong. The only thing I wouldn't do is try to mix a bucked of compound with a paint mixer lol I'd use an actual mud paddle 🤣

Good video pointing out issues with ready mixed drywall compound. It needs to be mixed and water added to achieve the correct consistency before using. Some people add dishsoap to make it spread smoothly, jury is still out on that. Caution ⚠️ That drill is a bit under sized for mixing drywall and will burn 🔥 out with repeated usage for compound work. Dust control will not achieve as smooth finish, it has larger solids that cause the dust to fall when sanded. Lite line or lite finish is a good choice for the final coats. Smoother and easy to sand.

It only needs to be mixed with water by people that don’t know what they are doing and are looking for a shortcut or avoiding doing any amount of strenuous labor. In other words, hacks that haven’t learned how to finish drywall properly. Old plasterers could finish entire buildings without sanding because it’s not a necessary step of the process if you know how to do it well. Hack drywall finishers now want to do it as quickly as possible which means they need to thin down the compound and make it as easy as can be. The reality is you degrade the strength of the material and why you see every seam in drywall anymore.

As far as the drill comment goes, I've mixed over 500 gallons of mud with a full size paddle using my 12 year old fully abused M18 brushed Drill (Just regular old drill that comes with the impact in a combo kit) in an attempt to kill it, and it has yet to die..

I've heard to use saop when texturing it helps push it thru the rig. Also when you don't use soap and when applying mud it helps it to glide better and without every time you put on and go back to mud box you pick up dust which thinkens the mud every pass. My question cause I've never used soap in my mud, how well does the paint stick to the mud/walls ?

@Tekagi Thanks for the reccomendation because I'm still trying to tweak the recipe to this day 😭. I didnt even search through this channel's content 🤦‍♀️, this short just came up lol & I thought maybe I was missing something in the mixing process to get that smooth & creamy consistency. I'm trying to create a special recipe for a personal project. I'm not building anything that requires safety codes or would put anyone at risk, just something for future projects. I see the person you reccomended has videos on how to choose the right drywall as well as some other tips that could be useful, so maybe those were the videos I needed since im still playing with the recipe lol. So thank you! 🙏🏼

I hope you dont see any bubbles with fresh drywall loll this happened only when a wall is painted with a glossy finish cause the air gets stuck between the paint and the mud so soap aint the solution!

I have heard that adding anything slightly basic to the mud makes primer/paint bond to be dodgy. I guess the adhesion of the paint isn’t meant to bond to soapy stuff. If you’re just the finisher and you don’t paint your finished walls you wouldn’t know that…

A little bit of soap helps make it fluffier and get the bubbles out so it goes on smoother. You just want to add a tiny bit 👌

@@caranewhartHi, just a friendly tip, that mixing paddle youre using increases bubble formation by adding all that air. Try a paddle mixer that spans the entire diameter of the bucket to get a full, consistent, air free mix.

Absolutely nothing! This is an old wives tale. If you put an ounce of thought into the logic of this practice you’d see how ludicrous it is. What does soap do when you add it to water or vice versa? It’s acting as a surfactant just like the water is, it’s decreasing the surface tension in the mud simply because you’re thinning the mud by adding anything more fluid than the mud itself. Add cooking oil and see if it’s any different, it won’t be! By adding bubble fluid and agitating it with a high speed egg beater you are CREATING BUBBLES! You might not see them like you do in the kitchen sink but they’re there. That’s why the mud gets light and fluffy, you’re introducing air and diluting the compound. What you’re doing is making it easier on yourself because you need a short cut to do something that people(professionals)spend years learning to do correctly by not using these hack tips! Do you think the chemical engineers employed by the companies that make joint compounds are to dumb to think to add dish soap to their product or didn’t realize they could add more water to a bucket and increase the profit margin? Look you bought it and it belongs to you so you can use it anyway you like. I’m only pointing out that when you make a video showing these silly hacks, it makes you look like… well, a hack.
