This has changed in the last few versions. Now it should do it automatically. You may need to have the original installer to do this, I would tell the students to save the installer until they were sure it worked. In the newer versions, I think 2020.11 and the 2021 versions I believe it INSTALLS it for you, I noticed helping students this semester they didn't have to do this separately. However it DOES NOT TURN IT ON. This is an easier fix, try going to the Setup pulldown menu in Pro Tools, activate "Playback Engine", and check the "Video Engine" box. Another problem I've seen some of my students have is if other video applications are open (Zoom, Imovie, Premiere) the video engine won't run. That is the depth of my knowledge, I am but a humble college professor. Beyond that, I would contact Avid tech support. But, hope I covered it!

@@beyondrecordingwithscottmi6756 not sure if you ever found a fix to this, but I'm currently having the same issue. Except, when I got to Setup -> PlayBack Engine, the video engine isnt even in the settings so I can't even turn it on. I've looked all over the web and can't figure out where to find the Video Engine setting to even enable it

@@StoltzyProductions The most recent three tiered structure may not allow video on the lowest tier. Looking at their website, it appears the "Artist" version as of 12/5/2022 doesn't have video tracks at all. Studio and Ultimate should still have it. Which version of Pro Tools are you using?

Do you mean in the playback engine window? If that is the case, the free version (Pro Tools Intro) and the cheapest paid one (Pro Tools Artist) won't have it. Avid makes you buy Studio or Ultimate.

How much RAM do you have in the computer? Sometimes if you have less than the minimum 16 GB that occurs. Also non-INTEL processors have trouble. Hope that helps! Good luck

@@ShohagHossain Hmm...Specs look fine. Couple of things to try: 1) Try opening Pro Tools WITHOUT a session open-Go to setup menu>Playback engine, check box "enable video engine". See if you get the same result. If it doesn't complain, it may be the video type. It also could be the Pro Tools version is too new for the OS which is rare on the PC, but look here: avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/compatibility/Pro-Tools-Operating-System-Compatibility-Chart. 2) If it still occurs it may be a mismatch between the video engine and the Pro Tools version (rare problem). Or the version you're on is one of the bad ones. I had a lot of problems with the first version from 2023, less with the June 2023 release. Either Problem might be fixed with a reinstall of the latest version. 3) Change the video TYPE. One more thought, the video engine will not work if you are using windows as your playback engine...get free ASIO4All or a separate interface, even a cheap one to resolve.

It should be mentioned that I'm using Avid Pro Tools Ver 12.5.0. last 7/8 month i was using it without any problems. But 3/4 days ago I reinstalled the same windows 10 pro. Then i install the same pro tools Ver 12.5.0 and that problem begins. I have tried open my previously done projects that was working perfectly before installing new windows and tried lot of deferent video. But its not working. And I'm using Asi4all previous 7/8 month. In the latest version of Pro Tools 2020.12, it installs the video engine for you. It was strange that it didn't, enough people complained to AVID they fixed it. Also, make sure you go to the setup menu>playback engine> and check the box in the center which turns the video engine on. Hope this helps!
