Mark, this is gold. Thank you. As I’ve just repeated this and have already noticed the improvement and differences.

I've heard so many teachers advocate 'handle in, clubhead out' for the takeaway to eliminate the whipping of the club inside with a forearm/wrist roll. But now I feel this cure might keep the left wrist in extension and mess things up this way!

I hadn’t taken a video of my swing this year until last week, and I did it because I knew I was dipping my head in the backswing, and I wanted to see just how bad it actually was( it was bad). But in the process I also realized I was swinging way past parallel at the top, and a lot of it was because, although through most of my takeaway I kept my lead wrist flat, the feeling of the wrist hinge at the top that I thought I needed to feel was actually just the wrist cupping, making my club go past parallel. So I had to shorten my backswing, or rather the arms portion of it, make a better turn with the body, and just get used to not feeling that cupping in the wrists, which is hard because I got so used to it and it had become a checkpoint for my backswing. I also did fix the head dipping, another feel I’m not used to. But I can’t argue the results. Played the same course the day before and the day after the changes. Day before I shot 101( I’m like a 25 hdcp). Day after, 86.

Just listening to this is so fascinating. I mean, it makes sense when you think of the various natural hinge points along just the arms down to the hands. Add the fact that there’s the weight of the head leads to interesting results with us humans. Glad you’re doing these in depth looks into things that can really help us from hurting ourselves by following old golf myths. Thanks Mark!!!

I think " one piece " takeaway mainly refers to elbows/arms " connected " to torso at initial backswing until you begin your hinge to get to the top of the swing ala Hogan.

The “hinge” is 3d and it’s NOT 1 piece. If we want to look at arms bending too I have data.

Interesting ......sometimes it feels like im flexed at top but hackmotion shows cupped (confirmed with video too). Wonder if im getting too much hinge late in backswing

It depends a lot I think I set up with a weak grip and a fare but if shaft lean and the one piece take away I flush the ball . I hit it much better and much longer prob to much daft lean 😊😂 My swing thought is set the club and rotate keeping arms and wrists solid making sure I maintain the angle on my trail arm and shaft all the way back and to impact if that makes sense and weight forward . The flying wedge they call it I grip quite firm as well Has transformed my game to were I’m very happy about my ball striking I can’t afford lessons so kinda hit loads of balls to find my swing 😁😁😁🤙

How does Bryson do so well then? he grips it without any discernible flex in his lead hand at address?
@MarkCrossfield
@MarkCrossfield 2 ай бұрын
I had his wrist angles somewhere I will try to dig them out. The stand out from him was Weak grip to start Can’t remember where his wrists where at the top Huge forearm rotation on downswing Many ways to skin the cat. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t follow the video pattern. So starts say -5 then at the top is around -3

Yes it’s the weak grip that allows for this.

They all are but we similar patterns related to start. So if you start at 20 we see that go down then up then down If you start at 0 it goes - 👍

Am I wrong to be trying to address the ball with a flat wrist to begin with rather than starting extended?
@MarkCrossfield

Start point to takeaway to too top to impact is all that matters. Korda starts very flat then is - at the top. 👍

Used to love your channel. I think what you’ve shown through your own speed journey is different players have different natural swings. Then by definition tips like these simply cannot be applied by everyone. Just imo.

This is a strong strong pattern with better players. Always will be outliers but you will have to be good to be one of them.

The phrase "one piece takeaway" doesn't even make sense. Those words don't mean "don't change your wrist angles at the start of your backswing" in fact the phrase doesn't mean anything really, it's really bad use of the English language.

For the first 7 minutes or so the presentation was more confusing (and less convincing) than the Labour Party election manifesto …! I picked up more from the last minute when the added flexibility of the move made more sense to me 😊

Don’t worry. Not everything is made for what ever your level of understanding is. Sometime dumbing down simply hurts people. I know people want that but this is often why golfers do t get better. Plenty of YT “coaches” giving dumb down stuff if that’s what you need. This was a more in depth dig. 👍 When I watch a video that I find harder to understand I simply do more research. 👍

I think the one-piece move (or the version of it I attempted to employ) merely drags me into an overly flat swing that then goes around the body leading to a host of issues -

Thanks mark Interesting Takeaway for me is moving club with the pivot and flattening the left wrist , that cured a slice tbh it feels like one move now but took a year or more to get to that stage
