Sometimes but not always. You can’t tell me that End of the world isn’t the worst segment in Sonic. Or at least one of them. It doesn’t matter how many characters you can play if they all control like ass (like classic Sonic in forces, ironically).

The game fucking sucks, it's lazy, shallow, underwhelming, pisspoor easy. But rather than hate, I feel apathy. Colors and Lost World, now those I hate with a burning passion. This one is just a pathetic wet fart and the lousiest entry Sonic could've ever had for 8th gen hardware. That's what's depressing, especially considering how superior Unleashed, a 12 year old game, is.

They truly made me angry when they said from the Team of Unleashed,Colors and Generations,instade we had an linear Game with such an shitty Level Design und Boost System it's not even funny I've waited so long for an Boost Sonic Game and this is what we got?! Not even drifting was in this Game! Super Sonic was not playable or not even had an apperence in the Story! They wanted 1,99$ for him! WTF! WTF is wrong with Classic Sonic he feels so heavy! The Levels are bland and far too short! While Im playing Unleashed Im in the first Section in the Day Levels meanwhile in Forces the Level is already finished. This Game is Utter Rubbish I hate how they trolled us. This Game was Made by Rookies,not by the Makers of the Boost Games. And also why tf is the Double Jump back? It is useless as hell the Homing Attack was far better. And the Final Boss was a reskin of the Final Boss of Colors. Pathetic,truly pathetic.

Level design is shit : ultra linear hallways, most of them scripted too, most of the game is blocky, slow, dull, claustrophobic 2D that drags on forever. The Wisps are useless padding minigames that break the already terrible pace. The moveset is pitiful : clunky inconsistent double jump, no Air Dash, no Light Dash, you can't Drift or Quick Step unless the game throws you a scripted section for it. Most stages are filler garbage recycling a portion from a previous act. This game was always trash, and pretending Forces wasn't based on it is just denying facts.

They could have went a million amazing directions to make the game spectacular, but they went with none of them.

to be accurate, tails had help from sonic and knuckles in that fight. however, he stood fearless against eggman in adventure2 just because sonic told him he should carry on. and in a noncanon mission in shadow the hedgehog, he went after the presidents escapepot to protect it against the black arms and he would have probably tried to do it on his own if shadow did not show up. so yeah, he should not be afraid of chaos0 at all

I like them too, but I also didn't hate Forces either, It was mostly meh but I did enjoy customizing the avatar and collecting parts, and trying to get S ranks on every level was a bit of a challenge, especially on some really janky levels.

I swear they were trying to imply Mania Sonic was a different dimension yet had shit writing to convey it since Classic in Forces had the drop dash, something Classic in Generations couldn't do...

well, it is on the mainland because eggman literally turned the ocean into a desert. that is the only thing about the game that makes any sence storytelling wise tho. there is no reason eggman and tails should know about the zelda-like timelinesplit and everything else is just horrible

To be honest, I kind of like that Classic Sonic is from a separate dimension now. That way the original Classic/3D split makes sense. They should have done a better job ret-conning that though...

They all control like ass. These characters were clearly not designed with precision platforming in mind. Also for some reason, 3D movement in this game feels like digital control mapped to an analog stick.

This game was big letdown with the hype it got

Falto Ikr? New playable character? Nope. Just a character you create. Villains coming back? Nope. They are all illusions and Shadow and Chaos don’t even get a boss fight. Poor level design even though the trailers said “From the team that brought you Sonic colors/Sonic Generations”, implying that this game would play as good as those two. The story was supposed to be dark and serious, but most of the characters don’t mature. Sonic doesn’t take anything seriously, even after getting tortured for half a year. Infinite’s backstory was horrible. The world was at stake because he was called weak. The list goes on, and on.

A year and a half of development time and this is how the game is. That is far from impressive. Especially if they spent all that time developing the engine. The engine is what decides how functional the game will be.

Don't get me wrong, Lost World has its own host of issues but at least it has levels that you can actually get lost in and enjoy longer than two seconds. The hedgehog engine is a lighting engine. Not a gameplay engine. The games use the Havok Physics engine.

@@jmaster4941 the havok physics engine is a fine engine. It's been used in every Sonic game from 06 to Forces. Unleashed, Colours and Generations used Havok. Since Havok was bought by Microsoft recently, Sega and Sonic Team have to switch gameplay engines. It still takes time to develop a lighting engine. The original Hedgehog Engine was built from 2005 to 2008, and Unleashed was being worked alongside the engine. Sonic Team took 2.5 years to make the Hedgehog Engine 2, snd 1.5 years to make the actual game, instead of working on both simultaneously.

The music of Forces just depends on your taste in music. Past games always had somewhat of a light hearted rock & roll (mainly talking vocal themes) or just a mixture of various genres (Unleashed, Colors, and Lost World had a decent mix of genres especially the Adventure games). I feel like Forces focused far too much on Synth and drum and bass. Lot of the songs (to me at least) sounded way too similar. Not many songs really made me think of the level they originated from.

cappy the doge they couldn’t legally stick with the last engine, and the physics engine fucked up on the new consoles so they essentially made it off of lost worlds engine and went from there. The hedgehog engine is only a lighting engine, Havok Engine is the actual physics engine. The hedgehog engine 2 is the most powerful one we have to date and if you pay close attention to small details in forces then it’s sometimes used to it’s advantage. there are some mods that truly show off what the hedgehog engine 2 can do.

This game is definitely more detailed but the textures are very ugly, especially for metallic structures making it feel weird to look at, so i think unleashed looks way better because of the great colors and diversity in how every level looks making it feel great to look at

I agree with the thoughts on Forces, I also thought the gameplay was alright, mainly the modern and avatar stages, it’s a shame the classic stages were FUBAR (Along with everything else you and Lazer said). I hope they’ll do better with the next game!

@@toowiggly I know that's the point, there's not much to say about it. And if anything the gameplay was more like a buffed Sonic Colors since the double jump returned and quick stepping was locked to certain sequences etc. You just don't have as much freedom

Nathaniel Loving Somehow it seems most people bashing the level design don’t seem to take this into account and are venting their frustrations at the wrong people.

The level design just broke me in this game. This is the streotype on how the uninformed person sees plaformers, except now this is an actual game.(Also, I think the reason why the level design was this way just because of the god-awful physics. You can tell in the 0.5% of this game that isn't automated.)

I agree with everything you said. Sonic Unleashed is my favorite modern Sonic game. It’s crazy how Sonic Unleashed is more than 11 years old and it looks and plays miles better than the recent Sonic Forces. All the trailers were hyping us up for how Sonic Forces was going to change everything, but when it came out, it was just a bland and generic Sonic game.

If it's true that they're remaking Sonic Adventure then that worries me, because if they butcher that remake it will never be forgiven. my advice would be to do what Sonic Mania did and hire passionate and talented fans to do the remake, or make a game inspired by adventure, that's something I have faith in. Besides a lot of the talent from Unleashed and even generations moved to Nintendo and other companies. Which is why games such as Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey were so good. I mean imagined working your arse off on a game like Unleashed, hoping to at least get a good rating and fix the audience reception after 06 and secret rings. Only to get destroyed by reviews, Like IGN who rated it lower than 06 and having the wii/ps2 version being rated much more decently. Yeah, I recon anyone after that would say "F*ck This" and move to another project all together. I've been a fan since I was 8 (recently turned turned 20), but I have yet to trust another sonic game till I see it. I love this Character so much, he was the reason I loved drawing, and his portrayal by Jason was perfect. but now he's a shadow of his former self, both in Quality and Character. Sorry that was so long, it's just that this Hedgehog was my hero growing up and I hate how SEGA have treated him this past decade.

Giving us all the 3D games like Adventure 1&2, Heroes, Unleashed, etc. Maybe even some improved versions of the wii games and even (i know it's a bit questionable) 06 and shadow the hedgehog, just for the sake of it. I actually liked forces even recognizing that it is a lazy game, I feel that the reason Sega is not doing things right is because they know that no matter what they give us, either a game like Lost World or a Sonic Adventure 3, we as fans are always going to hate it.

@@theminecraft2516 They had no involvement in Rise of Lyric. Sonic Forces began pre-production after Lost World along with the creation of the Hedgehog Engine 2. The reason it sucks so bad it's because the people who made Unleashed and Generations are no longer in Sonic Team so they had to re-create the boost gameplay using the same framework from Sonic Lost World

And to be fair, his deliveries weren't bad at all in this game. Like Jason Griffith was really bad until Sonic '06, but with good voice direction and a better script (like the ones in Unleashed and Black knight) he turned out to be really good as Sonic. Roger has the potential to be just as good if not better, to be honest. And Sonic Boom is the proof. Hell, Team Sonic Racing has better story than Forces and Roger truly shined through the whole thing.

Oh man, the Concept art for Sonic Forces is amazing; Its only sad reminder that these guys only had one year of development on Sonic Forces :(
