Another good video Max. I have made this change to every chain driven bike I have owned although haven’t to the Interceptor yet. I have one smaller and one bigger on my shopping list but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, will get this done soon. Thanks again Max, glad you’re enjoying your bikes new found snappiness.

Thanks, Daryl! Same here. I did this to all my other bikes, but they were just small capacity engines. I got both sprockets. The one I took from my back pocket in the beginning of the video is actually 16t. But it doesn’t feel like I will be putting it. Interested to see what happens to my mpg this spring when I start doing trips.

Mileage will suffer but not a big deal. Do you ever 0-60 your mods with a before & after ? Would be interesting to know what the sprocket change does to acceleration. I’ll check mine when I make the change.

Good stuff Max glad you're happy with it. A few weeks back I change up to 16 tooth. However I discovered the gearing for city commute is too tall. I've switched back to 15. My son lead the way yesterday on a ride I'd never done before. I never knew we had such an area in the Waikato as this at Te Miro. Pretty countryside and roads.

Hi Phil! Thanks for sharing! If you have time, try 14. What happens is that you get more gears in the 0-60mph range and this is speed I use my bike the most (city and country roads). Yesterday, I rode around 150 miles including a motorway, and it was fine. Motorway is a bite high in revs as expected, but the rest of the route is fantastic. With the spring and summer approaching here, many new roads are to be discovered, fair to say I don’t know the area at all!

@@thesundayrides I have but not myself, I am one of these bikers that is far from being a mechanic, and at times can cause more problems, but I guess its just confidence. I have to say I have done more on this bike than any of my previous bikes though. I am in ore of some of the stuff you try on yours.

@@thesundayrides Max I have not even really given it a thought I so in love with the interceptor, plus space is at a premium in my shed. I guess I would keep the interceptor and try and make room for something like the Classic 350 i love the look of that bike.

You are welcome, thanks for the feedback! I look at it not as a performance improvement, but a redistribution of available performance in the range you use the most. So it did work well for me. I recommend visiting Urban Rider, they have a wide range to try on. I got Pando Moto jeans and quick happy with them.

Hello, what a great video and motorcycle! I've been thinking about buying an Interceptor 650 from this year. The only counterpart that's kind of pulling me away from doing it is the fact that I've read a lot of bad reviews from long-term owners who say that the motorcycle rusts too much. How's your experience with this issue? Is it only on the old models, or does this still happen with the newer models as well? I wish you a good day :D

Hello and thank you! I own 2021 Interceptor. I bought it last year with 2000 miles and I made 4000 miles on it. I ride it all year long. I don't ride in wet when I can and I store the bike in the underground car part - with all this being said, I don't think rust is an issue. Of course, I wash the bike regularly and I use anti-rust products. Have a great day and good luck with your choice! I know it is a tough one!

Hey Adrian. Yes, I changed the wheels first. It was a huge improvement. And then I changed the sprocket and damn! another huge improvement. If you are touring america up and down, left and right - that's definitely not what you want to do, but if you are like me stuck in a busy city - that's a perfect mod!

Hi Matias! Let me know what you think after you tried it. It's an easy swap, so if you don't like it - it won't be difficult or expensive to revert or to go one tooth up. However, there is no going back for me. I love it. Your standard chain is ok, you just need to adjust the tension.

I went the other direction on the front sprocket...simply because I used my 650, in Ravishing Red !.... for long distance adventures... I compared speeds Vs Rev's before and after the swap and noted a Rev drop of about 500... as before engine is silky smooth at 75 mph... The change of sprocket, $16.00...was a easy 45-minute project. 😎

Yes, absolutely 👍 I got both 16 and 14, in case I don’t like the change, but it did work nicely for me. I tend to avoid motorways when I can, but this summer I plan to do a lot more trips, so I don’t exclude I will swap to 16 at some point 😎

It should, as RPMs are higher, but I didn't notice it as a big problem. it is an easy mod to revert if you don't like it

I cant see how the sprocket change improves "agility" as only changes to the suspension will improve that. If you mean that more acceleration means more "Agility" then fair enough but you're using the wrong terminology to describe what is, after all, acceleration and acceleration alone! Agility is the bikes ability to change direction which is governed by the frame geometry, tyres and suspension settings.
