Welcome to my Supermoto Build Series! In this series, I will be showing you the entire process of making a dirt bike street legal and converting it to a supermoto. This is being done on my 2015 Honda CRF450R. I'll cover parts needed, requirements, a little bit of installation how-to, but most of all, having fun showing you the choices I make to build a super cool custom supermoto!
In this video (Part 16), we take care of the final piece that I've been meaning to install on the bike: the kickstand! Until now, I've just been using the little triangle stand that inserts into the rear axle hole. Easy enough, but it's a hassle carrying it around. There are plenty of kickstands around, but the Pro Moto Billet kickstand comes highly recommended. And the cool thing? If you want, you can contact them and have them cut you a custom length kickstand for just a bit extra.
Had them send one out to me and the quality is incredible. WIsh I had asked for more cut off though. Thought that 1 inch would be enough for the supermoto but apparently not. Also would like to see what my paintings options are so it goes better with the bike. We'll see!

I remember asking you if I should get a Supersport or a Supermoto as a first bike, you said Supermoto would probably be more fun. Well guess what, I didn't. I bought a Supersport, a GSX-R 600 K6 to be exact and boy do I love it. Looks good, sounds good, revs good. Going slow isn't that fun and it gets pretty hot in town but once you go past 6000rpm and open the throttle....goddamn I've been missing out all my life.

Motonosity Thanks, I really love it. Especially the greeting part makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger. ;) Still gotta get used to the shifting though, the only bike I rode so far is an F650GS and that thing redlines at...8500rpm?

Anything that can take the heat of baking, can be powder-coated. I would suggest, taking it to a good welder, cut of the foot and roughly 3/4" of the leg, and TiG the foot back on. Seeing as the kickstand will have no shear pressures, there will be no loss of strength due to annealing.

Something you can do for the kickstand paint thingy is masking off the actual hinge and painting the rest. The gap thus created can be kinda fixed with a tiny bit of pinstriping the gray part.

JRSt1 You can get UK candy in the USA and Canada, but only in specialist shops. Not cheap, but it saves the wait :)

WeeemRCB there is only one near me, and apart from Cadbury Dairy Milk bars, they no longer have anything imported from the UK.

If you ask them then I'm sure they'll get some for you. I'd recommend Wispa bars and dark chocolate Kit-Kat (its not the same as the USA Kit-Kat ;) )

Probably be best to have that anodized black of red to match the rest of the bike. It'll stand up better than powder coating, especially around the area's that have friction. Also withstand rock chipping.

the rubbing from up front might be caused by the front tire expanding and contracting as you speed up and slow down combined with the wind pushing the plastic guards out of shape thus creating the circumstance for them to rub each other. just my thought I could be totally wrong tho and most likely am

The reason your tires are rubbing on your fork guards is probably because when you ride, tires heat up (obviously) and maybe not so obviously expand. Since you cut the fork guards to fit a cold tire, they began to rub when the tire heated up and expanded to a larger size then they were when they were cold. Just a hunch hopefully you fixed them!

For the kickstand, try bending it out on that small knee of the kickstand itself, instead of cutting, just heat it up a lil bit and you're gonna be good

I think that all in one led tail light/turn signal may be the answer to my needs. I want to make my dirtbike a part time sumo but don't want the added weight or clutter of a bunch of the items you need to make it street legal.

You should definitely get that stand anodized since its aluminum. like powdercoat but better! ps, the guards started rubbing because the sidewalls relaxed on the tire.

If you can powdercoat that thing you should do it the same red, or the same gray that you have on the bike

The kickstand is aluminium so you can have it anodised black. Anodising barely adds any thickness to the part so you should be good.

Hey man I have a 2012 CRF450X and my bike will overheat pretty quick if I sit to long at all... Coolant boiling out the weep tube. Any suggestions how I can solve this issue? Fans for the radiator maybe..... Haha

You should really consider anodizing it. It won't ruin it. You could probably perfectly match the red on your engine already.

if that is aluminum you should put nylon washers in between the aluminum and steel. it will rust super fast.

the kick stand will have to be anodised, u could buy a anodising kit or look about for a body shop that will do it for you.

Your front forks will move around a bit without a stabilator, they wobble.

you should remove your fork guards if you arent riding heavy dirt alot no reaason and with the exposed pistons of the forks it looks nice and shiny but its your bike do what you want
