Avoid the dealership. They are very expensive. Stay with the mechanic you trust. Let him figure out what the problem is. Just give him the symptoms. He'll take it from there. Retired mechanic here. Nothing more annoying than a customer who wanted to tell me what to do, or how to do it.

Buying a well maintained Mercedes is a good purchase.... by far the most intelligent decision you have made in Thailand. The oil change is higher because it uses synthetic oil and 9 quarts... that's almost double the oil most cars take. 46 garage is an honest place.

Most Mercedes and other high-end Cars require specialized tools to perform many of the Check engine light issues, suspension, etc with problems that arise. Taking your well-funded vehicle to a non-MercedesTuner sports shop is probably not the best call. Come on Now, Oil siphoning from the top of the oil dipstick tube is a slick quick service you get from some shops to save time and not your car. Removing the bolt from the pan is still the best option to remove lots of impurities when draining the oil pan.
@allenelswick6961
@allenelswick6961 7 күн бұрын
That there is the new way of draining the oil and it does the job. How many here know there are some new models of cars that does not have a dip stick to check your own oil and forces you to go to a dealer for them to do all that. You can install your own dip stick and bypass the dealers. Don't waste your money changing oil and filter every two to three thousand miles all newer vehicles have a light that will come on when it's time for a new oil change. I have been a full mechanic for 46 years and all motor oils you buy now are much better oil than what was used in the 70's and 80's. I remember when synthetic oil came out and promoted on television and most of the time set on store shelves. Save your self money by buying regular motor oil but if it makes your mind happy keep buying synthetic oil.

I don't care for the suction if the bolt is good on the bottom or needs replaced then fine but the pan is built for a reason settlement you are supposed to run the engine and let it sit for a while and then drain it while it's warm so all the settlements come out

Many Thai people take good care of their Mercedes. Some add some strange cosmetic modifications which yours doesn’t seem to have. I hope this turns out to be a good car for you. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you. Mobile One is good oil. I suggest getting some blue tooth speakers with batteries and just run your iPhone through it from the back and leave the car stereo as is for now. If you F@*+ with the audio system you’ll instantly depreciate the vehicle. Central World - used to be called Central World Plaza among other names. If it’s the place I’m thinking of. They should have a fancy movie theater at the top like I mentioned before. There’s also a high-end audio mall around the corner outside behind a grocery store. But I left some Van Der Hul and Cardas audio cables for one dealer to sell for me used. He used them in his system then the first time when I went back he said they didn’t sell yet. The second time he said they were lost. The third time they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about. Not all Thai places/people are honest. Beware. There’s also there used to be an all night club there that opens when other bars close, but I don’t recommend that lifestyle for you. Enjoy what you have.

Hey Ivan, I'm from germany and I may have an easy life from the goverment but due to mental struggles its really hard for me right now (i know people would say they would trade, but a panic disorder isnt fun, its not even worth living man, and I can REALLY REALLY understand how it feels to be left by society in some way). Just wanted to say I wish you all the luck and success there is since I can only imagine how hard it can be. No matter what media says, you are just a human same as me. And if people here would treat me like a human just like I want it for every other good guy on this planet, that would be a big win for us as a "world society". F** borders, good people are worth the same, and we should exchange culture not those nasty other things that travel at the speed of sound even so I know there is a right side. We aren't so different after all, I see a lot of traits I also have here in germany. Good luck man! You are one of the good guys please neve give that up, no matter if huge success comes or life strucks you again and again :) We are the people, we are not those other guys i wont mention. And have fun, Ivan, I hope you really find something with this channel, Im gonna be there! (I followed your journey for like a long time, like a really long time and you have talent for this!)

Hi there! T was wrote before something from the timing chain subject and I agree to some other guys who said that "change the chain anyway." I just checking the price of the Lambda sensor (adjusting sensor) and the price will be something like 35 to 50e, not expensive. Many cases sensor alarms because wrong timing because of the chain or camshaft vario gears. They are not so expensive. If brake vacuum pump is noisy it cost some 100e, not expensive either. About the Thai repairshop, 46, I like the way how he first make a good inspection and after that the solution. He's good. Hope you manage with the car, under 400tkm is not very much for the Mercedes. Best regards from Finland.
@FoundingYouTuber-2005
@FoundingYouTuber-2005 7 күн бұрын
The general rule with the timing chain is that you do NOT wait until there's a problem with it. the chain should be replaced at the suggested mileage mark recommended by the manufacturer. In that regard, I believe Mercedes states in the owner's manual when your timing chain should be replaced.

Had the M272 in my S211 before. It’s a nice engine with good power but it has really bad rep because of the chain issues. You can check the timing easily, there is a little hole some markings need to line up with. But the reason the chains lengthen is often caused by a bad sprocket they didn’t harden well enough in the first years. So the teeth wear down which messes with timing. Unfortunately, the sprocket is fixed to a shaft and bolted at the back of the engine so engine needs to be taken out to fix it. The camshaft adjusters also wear out and they‘re 500€ in parts per piece. The sprocket in your car is probably not the first as it would never survive that long but hope they fixed it when the improved part was already available. Another common issue is the adjustable intake manifold. The plastic of the flaps get brittle and get sucked into the engine, often along with the metal parts they’re attached to. You might also notice a „donk, donk“ when you start the car while it’s half warm. It’s the „M272 donk“ that can sound a little scary/embarassing. It’s really deep down, probably main bearing but many cars have it for a long time without it getting worse and they run fine. Sometimes the ECU also has problem causing missfires and hickups in fuel delivery. Those can sometimes be mistaken with chain problems triggering the camshaft position sensor. No matter what, labour is the most expensive part so you’re in a good place. In Germany, you can sink 6k € easy if you need to get this done(sprocket, chain, adjusters,x).

Ivan, 02 sensors generally do not make a grinding or rattle noise, so I'm still skeptical. Do hope it's an easy fix. Regarding the headlight, a hair dyer would remove moisture and super glue would have fixed the crack...zero cost DYI. The Mobile 1 synthetic oil should be good for at least 10,000 miles, if that's what you received. The oil was quite dirty so the jury is still out on the motor noise.

Hi Ivan, I like your Benz. I hope that the noise in your Benz engine is an O2 sensor. But I wouldn't be sure. Just because the scan tool reads a code for a bad O2 sensor it doesn't mean that the O2 sensor is bad. On my Cousin's Jeep the check engine light came on. The computer displayed a code for a bad O2 sensor. She had a garage change the O2 sensor. They cleared the code and the check engine light went out. A 100 miles later the check engine light came on again. I told her to let me check the engine with my scan tool. Again it displayed a code for a bad O2 sensor. I told her that the O2 sensor wasn't bad it has a new O2 sensor. I told her something else is going on. Let me research it for a couple of days. She was nervous because she had to get new plates in a week. She couldn't get new plates if her Jeep didn't pass the emissions test and if the check engine light was on it was an automatic fail. You couldn't just reset the computer to turn off the CEL. Because the State could tell with their scan tool that the computer was recently reset. And you'd have to put at least 200 miles on the car since the computer reset to get an emissions test. She was getting nervous because time was running short. So she took it to a garage that guaranteed that they would fix the emissions system so you can pass the emissions test. The estimate that they gave was for $1500 for all new coils, plug wires, and a new cat. Everything except what the problem was. She showed me the estimate. I told her that they are trying to rip her off. I told her through my research that I'm 99% sure that the problem is a bad Throttle Position Sensor. I told her her that new TPS costs $30 do you want me to change it. She did. The the problem was solved for $30 not $1500. I don't know what a TPS has to do with an O2 sensor. But somehow the computer thought that it did. The CEL was on my Dads Grand Marquis. The transmission was also stuttering on the highway. The car only had 60,000 miles on it. He just had to have the transmission rebuilt a year ago and the transmission was going out again. I thought WTF Fords are a POS. I scanned the computer for a code. It had a code for a bad EGR Valve. I bought a new EGR Valve and installed it and I cleared the computer. About 50 miles later the CEL came on. I scanned the car for codes again. The same code bad EGR Valve. I just just installed a new EGR Valve. I thought WTF. I researched the problem. Smart money was on the passages in the intake manifold were carboned up tripping the bad EGR Valve code. The fix was to remove the intake manifold and chisel the carbon out of the intake manifold. It took an hour and a $3 gasket. Not only did it solve the bad EGR Valve code it also solved the stuttering in the transmission. I don't what carbon in the intake manifold has to do with the transmission stuttering but it did. So I hope that the O2 sensor is really the problem with your Benz. Why does it take a week to install an O2 sensor in your Benz? Don't they have auto parts stores in Thailand? You go to an auto parts store drop $30 - $40 on an O2 sensor install it and in a couple of hours you have a car with a new O2 sensor. Is the headlight that you bought for your Benz an new original Benz part? If it is you got a deal. If it's a Chinese knock off it isn't a great deal. Because 99% of Chinese parts suck. My friend worked for a company that sold Chinese made sheet metal, fenders, hoods, doors etc. for cars. They were cheap but they were shit. He said that the body parts rusted in the warehouse. Used Benz's and BMW's are cheap because as they age they become money pits and smart money avoids them. They're great cars when new and they're great drives when old but they become money pits. Benz and BMW love themselves and charge a fortune for parts. Why when Lexus can sell reasonably priced parts? But Lexus's never break so you never have to buy parts. Benz's and BMW's are the best driving cars in the world and they're some of the most unreliable cars in the world as they age. If Benz and BMW could make cars as reliable as Lexus, Toyota and Honda they'd be the best cars in the world. I hope that your Benz treats you well and doesn't become a money pit.

The Cheesecake Factory is an American company and that is why the portions are so ginormous! When/if you eventually move to America you will find that practically every restaurant serves portions that massive. The trick is to not take the excess food home with you or you’ll just pile loads of weight on in the states. What you had was enough to feed four people. I once had a waiter in a diner trying to force me to take home a massive pancake when I’d already eaten 1& 1/2 and didn’t want anymore. I told him I didn’t want to have the same meal the next day, I was there for one meal for one person and it wasn’t my fault that the diner made too much food for one person’s meal. Eventually he agreed with my logic. 😂 😅 On the odd occasion I go to the Cheesecake factory, I’ll get a couple of small plates so I can indulge in a slice of cheesecake for dessert, because that’s the whole reason for going there as their cheesecakes are sooooo delicious.

Lambda or O2 never makes any sounds. And I believe , fault is just because of cutted out catalic converters so 2. O2 sensors get faulty readings..... But anyway, no sounds can be taken away by changing O2 sensors

I suspect that car was used as some kind of luxury taxi. Maybe picking people up from the airport, or or ferrying businessmen around. In 7, they always snip the bag before microwaving it.

Clearly the Lemon was the worst purchase, not this Mercedes. Still, it's a bit crazy that this is your third car in less than a year. If you buy a fourth they are going to ask you if you are exporting them back to Russia.

Timing Belts and Timing Chains are such a pain to change. If you don't change it the whole engine could be toast. Done 5 of them and yeah, it sucks. Being part Japanese, I don't think I could eat that rice ball either...but i do recommend trying Spam Musubi.

Ivan, the clicking sounds could be the Direct Injection System. This might be the “normal” sound/noise of the engine.

I would not micro wave a burger in a plastic bag .All the chemicals from the plastic will leak into the burger. Probably that was giving the bad smell as well .I know employees in 7/11 do that all the time but that does not make it right .Happy for you about the car .

HI IVAN, Finally you got a luxury car in the same league (& year) as the FREEDOM ESCALADE!!! And finally I have time to comment.…...I'm back in CALGARY for a few weeks helping a friend (& his young daughter) get his domestic life back on track after his girlfriend split..... I been real busy Ivan, but have watched ALL your vids.... never really got why you bought that old STANZA..... it was a forgetable econobox here in N America, often a rust-bucket here in Canada. The LEMON was SWEET, the body style gorgeous, but prob. not a good comfortable daily driver. Let's see what 46GARAGE can profit on this Benzo, lol! .... Be well worth a few bahts to get that Big Benz timing chain fixed.(not yet watched this vid) Paint it a funky red or purple and some phat rims, LED ground effects liting, the Sanctioned Ivan logo, & you good to explore ALL of Thailand!!! IVAN, DO YOU EVER FORGET TO DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE ??? (wrong side in Ru or here)

Cheesecake Factory is notorious for gigantic portions. My husband and I usually split a starter, then split a meal. We still end up carrying out leftovers. Did the one in Bangkok have a billion choices? They're also known for their thirty-page menus. You and Evelina did not try a piece of cheesecake? They have thirty to choose from! How did you resist?

The 300 series Mercedes are very reliable and safe cars. You should be ok, if the former owners took care of it. But you need to maintain it. Otherwise they can get pretty bad.

That's a cool car, Ivan. I didn't know they made that S Class in a V6 spec. The US typically only gets the higher spec ones to "preserve it's luxury status." It's amazing how you got that headlight for only $150....I have an Acura RLX, and my headlamps cost well over $1,000 each. Before this car I had a Volvo S80 with the V8 and parts cost a fortune for that car. I should have just bought an E or S Class because the aftermarket support is so much better for Mercedes. Acura and Volvo are low volume brands, so there ends up being less support both from the dealer and independents. Also, if possible I would reconsider installing the phone thing you're talking about. A lot of these flagship luxury cars, once you start messing with anything electrical it can really cause you a lot of headaches down the road, even if it seems to work at first.

I have owned two S class, and two Mercedes SL cars. They were money pits. After my 560 SL which I sank a lot of money into, I vowed never to get another Mercedes. I switched to BMWs (325i, 540i, and two 740i). BMW makes a far better car than Mercedes.

Ivan, the biggest problem with having a German car with this mileage is that the parts are already worn out and you never know the real condition of each one of them. You may already have to replace many parts from now on and these parts are made in Germany.
@Perqd
@Perqd 8 күн бұрын
these old mercedeses are made for ALONG time, so its probalb not the motor. I can tell you from experience living and working in baveria in germany that old german cars (not all) TAKE ALOT until you break them. Maybe something was modified... The new ones... they are not bad... but if you want the best for your money take old german cars over new ones ;) I have an old bmw myself and added 100k km (200 000 km + total) without ANY problems, just break pads and oil changes or tire. My BMW is just like new, its insane. Like really im still in shock that i dont need a new car yet, even so im saving up for one.
