Ivan, The S classes are very nice vehicles, just check the thickness of the windows glass (it is twice as thick as other cars, that is one of the reasons why its so quiet. Why don't you buy yourself a 20-30 dollar ODB2 auto checker that has software that you can run on your iPhone, connect the ODB2 sensor to the the yellow or white port close to your steering column and using the Bluetooth connection of that sensor and your iPhone and run some diagnostics and see wat kind of the problems the car has, do this before you take it to the garage. Some of the ODB2 sensor can be used to reset the Check engine light, run some diagnostics and some even give you a report with what parts need to be replaced and the approximate cost of repair. If the shop you are taking it does not have the right ODB2 software for that model car, do not use that shop. You can also go to a Mercedes dealership and ask for an estimate, if they provide freed diagnosis. This is NOT the type of car that most backyard mechanics can fix. You need a shop that does Mercedes as a specialty, otherwise you will get all kinds of wrong diagnosis and pay for things that you do not need. Trust me.

Edit: Timing chain sets for the MERCEDES-BENZ S-Class, with all the parts needed is around 2-300 USD There should be replacement guides somewhere. Find the cars rapir book / software. Print it out. It will help him a lot to replace the chain. He can also check first how many mm is left on the chain tightener. Buy the _Haynes Mercedes-Benz Car Repair Manual_ for this car. Will show two methods to replace the chain, one easy and one complicated.

Do not let "some mechanic" work on this car, no matter how good he is on Datsun and whatever. This is a Mercedes. S-Class is one of the best cars in the world - as long as it is serviced properly. Unbreakable, as long as service is done right. Do you hear me, Ivan? Take this advice from the home of this beautiful car.

You are also responsible for Evelina and if you are ever in a crash you will survive it in this car, not so much in an old Datsun. Safety is so much more important than a couple of dollars because it is priceless.

I had a 2007 S550. Many things can make the check engine light come on due to the computer. Even improperly tightening the engine cowl after an oil change. I hope it’s something minor. Maintenance on these cars is very expensive. You guys look great in it.

First go to a MB specialist with an MB diagnostic tool to find out why you have a check engine light. If it is the timing chain HAVE IT FIXED UP ASAP ! Evelina is a beautiful seat cover !

As soon as that goes out of time the engine will go bye-bye.... better change it fast.

I have worked on a lot of cars and i would love for you to take my advice. I turned my audio all the way up and listened t the car run and so did my brother and while it may be the timing chain Although we didn't hear any evidence of it i and my brother can both tell you that you have a problem with your belt tensioner. Have that checked out first and you will probably save yourself a lot of money and headache. I think you got a good car there and you may even want to ship it to America if you come here because those cars are only going up in value over here.

Hi Ivan, that was a much better decision to buy the Mercedes instead of the stupid idea to put a V8 in the Datsun. I hope you stay with the Mercedes and drive it for a long time in Thailand and be happy with it. Now you only have to sell the Datsun and get your money out of it.

not sure about prices in Thailand, but in europe, this s class is money pit. Not even talking about body parts etc, every small fix costs a fortune, suspension is also tricky. There is reason for s class to be cheaper than c class (used).

that sound is a bearing going out on a idler puller or a belt tenser bearing , about 20.00 dollars .its a pain to replace . the only way to check timing chain is with a timming light .its makes no noise ,the chain . are you sure if it has a timming belt? timming belts are changed every 60,000 miles .if the owner changed the oil regular the chain will not wear much

My God. From one extreme to another. I hope it works out well this time. Still I would have had a vehicle inspection by an independant mechanic or official auto club mechanic before purchase.

Not the car for travelling around Thailand unless you plan on staying on the main highways and expressways. You need a car with good ground clearance like an SUV or pickup. If you plan to go anywhere interesting like the 120 National parks, nature reserves and mountainous areas get yourself a 4Wd pickup. The Merc looks cool but won't look so cool stuck on a mud road up in the North mountainous provinces of Thailand.

As a past owner of several Mercedes, I have to say this was a very wise deal. Beautiful car outside and inside. You can't beat the ride. You will love it better than your freedom ride Escalade. One classy car you got there. You might be surprised how well built they really are, they keep running when other cars leave you sit. And you still can get your boy racer vibes by buying another side car ... but just about nothing matches a Mercedes of that era, mechanically or looks wise. (Now you need a Russian Mafia sticker to put on the window.

When i was your age i bought a Mercedes 240D second hand .It was white and all polished up i felt like a king driving it . That was around 1980 when i lived in the Netherlands .Later i lived in Jomtien and drove a Toyota commuter van ,also diesel .I loved that vehicle also and kept it 4 years .Here in Ireland you can buy those S class Mercedes ,20 years old for tiny money ,but the road tax here Insurance and annual mechanical test make the running costs hugely expensive .

There's at least three shops within ~30 mins in and around Pattaya that specializes with Benzes. Please dont take it to a local homeboy and get it fixed cheaper. These are amazing cars if maintenance is well kept. It can easily go to 500.000km with the right maintenance and driving. As someone else pointed out, look for the Haynes books and print out the timing chain guide/list if you gonna go to an local general mechanic.

I have a Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG from 2007 and i am the owner for 7 years wright now and never had any trouble nice daily driver you got there i did the normal service on my one and ofcorse straight pipes but nothing else just the exaust. I am Happy for you Ivan good luck to you legend .👍💪✌️

I have an e350. Well known for being a bulletproof motor; will go for 250,000 miles, mine has 100k, but if you throw that chain you’re in deep dookie. Check engine light could be costly , headlights are a livin bitch to change. Did both mine.

Hopefully it was taken good care of so far and you won't have any problems with it. You should keep the Datsun and finish fixing it up because it'll just go up in value the older it gets and it's something fun to drive around to the car shows. 👍

Well done, Ivan! I think you have the right idea especially if you bought it cheap. Old Benzes can handle really high mileage so you should be fine. Just watch out for the dashboard display which is pretty expensive to fix/replace but the guys in Thailand probably have a lower-cost solution for that too.

Very Nice! You'll definitely be well respected when driving around Thailand. Cost of labor for repairs are comparatively cheap in Thailand. If you have the part number , alot of parts can also be ordered from Lazada or Ali Congratulations 😊🙏

If the yellow check light is on for the timing chain, these are the fault codes= P0008 or P0017, also make sure your fuel cap is tight , if air is getting through the rubbers this will also show a yellow light, it could be a nox sensor, yellow is not serious, if it turns to red , this is when you have problems

For the first time you bought a proper car!! Congratulations ! The only problem: it's about 16 years old and it has been driven for over 350.000 km (if I remember well). Well, for a Mercedes usually not a problem, but you have no idea how the previous owner(s) took care of that car. Repairs and spare parts tend to be expensive - but maybe you can find some good prices in BKK or Pattaya. Good luck!

Plastic valve covers and oil pans usually cause early oil leaks on many cars today. The plastic just does not expand and contract and expand in a very different rate to the engine block and the heads. That is why a lot of German cars are big oil leakers.

These are solid cars, have the timing chains replaced when you replace the valve cover gaskets, it will go another 200k miles easy. You do need to change the oil every 4,000 miles on the 3.0 and the 3.5.though. You made a good buy.

Congrats from the car! If the price was really cheap it's ok. A few quys has already wrote that the chain for the timing need to be change and theyre right. Also tensioner pulleys and guides. There is also a few gaskets you need to change. Those are not coming with a new chain set. DO IT NOW. If not the engine will destroyed very soon if it noisy already. Some of the models engine need to be take out, some models you need rip off quite lot of things. Renew also chainwheels to the crankshaft. Quality parts (INA forex.) cost something like 250-300e, not very expensive. Check out also camshaft vario chainwheels. Sometimes they are broken. Use quality oil in the engine, like Mobil 5W50. Maybe those guys from the 46 garage can do it. And it must be do with extremely carefully. Best luck for you and Evelina. Thanks from the videos and best regards from Finland.

next time you walk ahead of evelina at 1/2 a km ahead because you get excited more about the car, and forgetting she`s behind you, pay attention as you dont want to endd up with a drive by kiddnapping. Also congrats on the car looks great but , i would get a proper inspection on it as the dealer was happy to get rid of it cheap as probably has engine problems also do a full dignostics test it will show every possible fault.you can even buy you own diagnostic tool that you plugin when looking for a car.

I had a Mercedes S-Class in Canada and this is a beautiful vehicle, but this car developed by talented engineers and you cannot go to some "Mobile mechanic" doing the work on his knee. Find dealer that specialize on Mercedes brand and ask scan car by OBD2 Vehicle Code Reader/Scan Tool. They will tell exact what generated check engine light and much more to be looked at. 375K km mileage sounds right for 16 years old car for Thailand. If you don't have a major engine/transmission issues and maintain it properly by right people you can ride it anywhere and sleep well. But what you will produce as a content ?
