Wires I got the same problem just can’t afford the wire to re do it mines a 97 2.3l 4 cylinder if you tap the wires on the solenoid with a screw drive while someone try’s to start it I’ll go Edit: that 2.3l 4 popper seems bulletproof to me so far I’ve had a cracked head at 250k miles got them resurfaced and now I’m 1.3 million and still running strong only problem is this starter issue eventually when I get enough saved up imma re wire the whole truck and get it back to original

mjmcomputers I own a 98 Ford Ranger XLT it has the 3.0 in its automatic got a hundred thirty thousand miles on it really good condition okay the problem is I was driving down the road the sumbitch shut off on me like it was out of gas ruin my fishing day so when I come to a complete stop I tried starting it up I smelled something burning got under the truck quickly figured out it was the starter so I get my truck back home I go and buy a brand new starter mind you my battery is only 5 months old brand new I get it to the house I put this new starter in it I go to crank it over when I did I got this loud ass screeching noise coming from it sounds like in between my transmission and my motor I know that narrows things down your flywheel your torque converter things like that I'm not a mechanic mind you once again I'm a tree trimmer I've had six different people come look at my truck I've had them tell me my motor is blowed up I've had him tell me that my transmission was bad timing torque converter was bad pretty much putting everybody s*** together I have to replace my motor and my transmission none of the dudes knew what they was talking about now I have a video on how it sounds if I could figure out a way to send it to somebody on here I'm trying to avoid going to a repair shop necessarily don't have the money for that trying to do it all on my own learn some new s***without spending a crap ton of money and being able to do it on my own I cannot have the truck towed but need it fixed ASAP and no BS I'm not being a smart-ass I'm just simply saying I am tired of wannabes they have no clue what they're talking about please will someone help me that knows what they're talking about I'm about to run a couple sleeve the shotgun shells through the sumbitch Ben many late nights still can't figure it out I've gotten nowhere other than my starter being taken out of my truck and my old drained out someone please help

Shouldn’t be any difference as long as it’s a 2.3l 4 cylinder

Check your coil packs then fuel pump

Also consider a tune up

jean marin I used a socket with an extension to remove the starter bolts. There wasn't much in the way on my truck.

I have a 91 2.3 5 speed and I used an extension and a swivel

Nathan Widiker I would start first by checking and cleaning all the electrical connections. If everything is clean and getting the power it should then look at the starter/solenoid.

Replace the fender starter relay. Ford calls it a solenoid but it isnt
