idk if this applies to human food, but it's better to not purge them, if theyre starving they lose nutritional value. also there's no way to completely purge the insect anyways without them starving to death.,,

The texture is very similar as if making in a conventional oven. I eat a lot of crickets though and to me it’s texture is a hybrid between a sunflower seed and puffed kashi.

I have no great solution asides from vinegar traps mixed with soap. Otherwise, you may just have to change the fees you give your crickets to something less attractive to the fruit flies. If you are having issues with the fruit flies hatching in your substrate, add some limestone to change the PH to a level not amenable to fruit fly hatching.

When dried, it is very nutty. Most people describe the taste to a sunflower seed; however, I think people use that description largely due to the texture as well. As with anything though, a lot of the flavor (even without seasoning it) will depend on how you process it. When raw, they do not taste nutty, only when dried.

Interesting idea. I have never tried it. After I bake them I often eat them just like popcorn, but I have never tried speeding up the process by microwaving them instead. I can give it a try and let you know.
