The inception of these 2 came from them joking around on tour, when .Paak was touring with him on his 24K Magic tour. They would try and make each other laugh by singing scenarios which would lead a man to sit on a windowsill and 'smoke out the window'. This was the first song they wrote together. So, while maybe it didn't come from sarcasm, it came from humor.

If you have time, listen to Bootsy songs like What is a telephone Bill or I'd rather be with you. Really good points on musicality, etc., especially the ‘walk up/down’ point, as I think of the whole album project, every song has it in one form or another. Fly As Me might be the most subtle. But in some interviews they mention that this was the 1st song they started messing around with when they were on tour, & APaak & Free Nationals we’re opening for Bruno’s 24Karat Magic, like 4 yrs ago. It was during pandemic on Andy’s birthday that Bruno called & invited him to finish the song & the rest is history. Perhaps the best thing to come out of the pandemic shutdown. On genre & group influences, folks often mention the Temps right away. You could say they are the o.g.’s of male vocal groups that had dance moves, starting from the ‘60’s. I think Smokey & the Miracles hit the scene close to that time, perhaps with less elaborate choreography. But groove wise? This is straight up early to mid ‘70’s Jackson 5 Never Can Say Goodbye, which is a song written by actor/Pastor Clifton Davis. The ‘60’s just didn’t have this kind of bounce that was brighter than ballad, but not as hard driving as a Four Tops Sugar Pie Honeybun or Miracles’ Tears of a Clown. For this grove & look, Spinners, Stylistics, Blue Magic, Chilites all come to mind, & any time you see bell bottom pants, MAYBE 1968 is earliest, not any further. I saw J-5’on Ed Sullivan like ‘69, when nobody was bumpin that beat like I Want You Back & ABC. An amazing time! Sly, Earth Wind & Fire, Santana….midn70’s jazz fusion. It was crazy! I enjoyed the Temps Four & Tops battle also. They were singing the other ones songs. Temps did that with the Supremes too, & my favorite was a collab on a song called I’m Gonna Make You Love Me. Silk Sonic’s project can reference more things than folks can nail I think. Much agreed on sarcasm humor, & you even see some of it live. This song ‘Herca-leese’ is Nutty Professor reference, Eddie Murphy. 🤣 Anyway, cool reaction! 👍
