How do you get an AR-15 lower receiver to sit still on your workbench so you can remove or insert the pins? Support it with a Midwest Industries AR-15 Lower Receiver Block, of course! Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant gives us an in-depth show-and-tell of this handy AR-15 tool (AR-308 version also available). Midwest molds their bench block from unusually dense polymer, so it's darned sturdy. It securely supports the receiver on its side so you can drive out the pins, AND it provides excellent support for the triggerguard tabs - often broken in mishaps involving overzealous application of hammer and pin punch. If you do a lot of AR-15 / AR-308 work, Midwest has thoughtfully drilled 4 holes through the bench block so you can bolt it to the bench top. But you may want to leave it loose because it also has a magwell insert that lets the bench block double up as a VISE block to support the lower OR the whole rifle in your bench vise. Bonus: a cutout to hold a low-profile gas block while you install or remove the gas tube pin. No more struggling to get that gas block to sit still while you install the pin!

I really appreciate these videos. I would really like a drill jig to properly drill the lower front barrel to accept two (or three) shallow drill points for set screws on a low profile gas block to ensure it is secured in place. Even a jig to properly drill a low profile gas block roll pin would be of interest. Set screws vs roll pin? And the best barrel wrench and lube or loctite for standard, m-4 and custom front grip to properly time and tighten (torque) the barrel to the receiver. While you're at it, please tell me what loktite color and grade and rock set for suppresor attatchment. I assembling a few rifles with mid length gas systems, feathervweight barrels, rifle receivers with M-4 carbine bullet tip guides. Hell, just tell me what tools I need and how to put the whole upper together. 👍🏻😎🇺🇸 I've got a good solid Vice and table. That's a great start, isn't it. Or point me to a proper manual or video so I don't screw it up. Thanks. 👍🏻😎🇺🇸

SLR makes a decent gas block dimple jig. Only one dimple is necessary. Put it opposite the gas port hole. If you put two dimples on and ever want to change your gas block, you're locked into the orginal spacing between the set screws from the orginal block that you put on. Without a standard for spacing, you might be stuck. One dimple works fine with some removeable loctite on both screws.

Is there an upper or upper and lower combo block to help us align triangle front sights? Asking for a friend.
@roostercogburn8183
@roostercogburn8183 2 жыл бұрын
Sadly no they only make a combo block for the hexagonal front sights. Tell your friend to cut off his triangle sights and buy roundie hole sights. The hexagonal blocks will fit those too

@@roostercogburn8183 I’ve been leaning into making a few of the more retro designs lately. The original Air Force 603, M16A4(ish), etc. The “mini” gas block is way easier to align than the A1 or A2 front sight. For me, anyway.
