👉Where are most GM vehicles made?
DETROIT - General Motors produces more models with the highest amounts of American-produced components than any other automaker, according to two recent independent studies. In the Cars.com annual American-Made Index for 2020, nine of the top 25 models are GM products, more than any other manufacturer.
👉Which GM cars are made in China?
GM will introduce the Buick Envision, a midsize sport-utility vehicle made in Shandong province, the Wall Street Journal reported. NEW YORK-General Motors plans to sell Chinese-made cars in the United States beginning early next year, a first for a major automaker, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.
👉Who owns GM now?
In the past, the U.S. government was a majority shareholder in the company (after the 2008 bailouts). However, in 2010 GM broke free from the government's yoke and was reborn in its current incarnation. Today, the top three individual GM shareholders are Mary Barra, Mark Reuss and Dan Ammann.

64 yo female here born, raised and lived in Flint, Michigan. The birthplace of GM. Most every kid I graduated with aspired to work for GM (shop). The only place you could have a good paying job without a college education. We were raised by parents that worked in these shops and had given us a good middle class upbringing. Flint had Chevrolet, Buick, AC, Truck and Bus and Fisher Body Ternstadt. All gone now except for the truck plant and metal plant.

Just like the Rolls Royce factory in good old England, the worker assembling the engine got to have his signature stamped on the block. The cars were in reality posh barges with plenty of leather seating and wood paneling, but lacked innovation. I suppose the owner would be getting a sense of exclusivity in the knowledge that his engine was personally signed by someone who had some sort of wrenching experience. Then BMW came down the road and showed them how to build a car, and better engines.

68 years old and have never owned any vehicle other than a GM. Every vehicle manufacturer has problems with their vehicles but I've been consistently happy with GM quality and reliability. I also feel like all the GM vehicles I've owned have been easy to maintain and work on. Watching videos like these I'm in awe of the infrastructure and robotics it takes to manufacture a vehicle and the investment GM makes to equip a plant. The costs must be staggering. And the maintenance workers it must take to maintain and keeps all the machinery working aside from the employees assembling the vehicles. And the logistics of all the parts that have to arrive where they need to at the right time and place. The engineering that goes into all of it is nothing short of amazing.

I worked for General Motors Hydramatic div 1976 ~ 2006. I moved from Tennessee up to Michigan looking for a job in an automotive plant. I just happened to get hired in at Hydramatic. After I retired, I moved back to TN, I was really lucky to have had such a job. We just didn't have jobs that paid or had the benefits that I had. Within the first year I was making as much if not more than my dad in TN working 2 full time jobs.

God I love watching these assembly plant videos and the old plants that were shut down…I’ve drove all gm my whole life,(52 here).even the $600/ 1993 lumina and a grand am ran killer…had iroc-z’s,formula 350’s,Transam’s then onto gm trucks as I hit my 30’s..gm builds the best looking trucks and suv”s and some cars as well (not much anymore ).I always wanted to get in one of these gigs at 18[1988] work 30 years and retire at 48 with a pension…us gen x definitely did not have the same opportunities as our parents and grandparents before us did…in the early 90’s you needed to know someone to get you in…I do well as I became a machinist and make close to what these “line”workers get…but ,oh marone, that damn pension would be awesome about right now. The writing on the wall was as early as 1975…. Old timers that got in in ‘55 were out in ‘85…

In the 1970s I was in college but had a job one summer at a Ford assembly plant in New Jersey, building Ford Fairmonts and Mercury Zephyrs mostly. The plant is long gone. Compared to this plant it was, at best, partially automated with much of the machinery potentially very hazardous. I remember all female workers either had to wear their hair short or tied up in scarves, for safety purposes. Apparently this isn't done anymore at least not at GM...

My grandpa had a 1972 Chevy C10 pick up truck. It was a red color. Great working vehicle. He used it for his chicken store business and to get around for random trips. He kept it after he retired in 1985. After his passing in 1996, my mom took posession of it. It was starting to have problems at the 150,000 mile mark of its life. It was having engine trouble, battery problems, spark plug issues etc. My mom tried to fix it but to no avail. So she decided to get rid of it in 2009. Kind of sad because I liked that truck but I guess there comes a point where there is nothing else you can do. Oh well.

In my factory, there is a short music clip that plays over the intercom anytime there is a machine or line fault. Each line has its own clip, that way a repairman will hear that music clip and know exactly which line is down. The factory I work in plays Mary had a Little lamp, clips from Clint Eastwood westerns, nursery rhymes, things like that. After awhile you don’t notice iy, until the music for your line plays.

That's the way used to be.. Unfortunately now the only way to be hired is to work as a temp for 2 years. $16 an hour After two years you get put on full-time and that's when your seniority starts. It takes 10 years after that reach top pay. Pensions has been done away with since 2010. Healthcare benefits is still good. But we're short-handed because nobody wants to come here and work as a temp for $16 an hour. There's department stores like Rural King, Lowe's and Menards that are paying more than that. GM jobs are not what it used to be.😕

I agree and have found rather curious. Tons of auto building videos on here. The American workers are, generally, dressed like they just rolled out of bed. Now go look at an Audi plant. Professional looking, smart looking and technically trained. Difference is self respect.

This is brain numbing work, they deserve what they are paid(well the older contract guys). You could raise a family and make a good living without a college degree…(not all people are college material , just as not all are pipe fitters, plumbers etc),nowadays gm pays - 16.67 for temp hires -what a joke- and god knows how many years they hafta put in before they are hired into gm…that starting pay should be -20.67 a hr…. No wonder all these new cars are junk, them temps don’t give a shit ,as I wouldn’t either. As anyone knew getting into here along time ago was work that line ,come to work start taking tests to get off line and into skilled trades for even more money and definitely job security ( guaranteed when plants get shut down the skilled trade guys find work faster and probably closer to their previous wage. The line folk get screwed going from 29 a hour to whatever they can get somewhere else).
