Great bunch of tips. The over-engineering tip is something I too fell into at first, and after a while pared down on extra structures I never needed.

I was a database developer starting in the very early 80s with dBase which became Lotus, then i changed to Access. Notion is the best of the three. Lotus is document driven while Access is data driven. I think my frustration with Notion at times is I can write a query and get the data I want or need in a flash. Notion ʼs formulas have me stymied because the language is so different. I am getting there. I realize I have to just sit down and learn how to write them. I have full page databases as you mention. There are three other ways to recover something inadvertently deleted (actually four). You can look at your page history, page updates, or looking in deleted pages. The fourth may take awhile to get it back-Notion keeps our stuff for 90 days. The tech support is incredibly helpful. I found that out when my power went out as I was working, and I lost everything. After about a week, I had everything back. You always say thereʼs something in the upper right hand corner, but itʼs not there (and I am hearing The Zombies as I write that). How did you use Notion as a word processor?

Hi, is the back up thing will not slowdown the notion ? And also since this is a duplicate that means that whatever you deleted from the original will not affect to the duplicate or vise versa? Also whatever you have added in original will not take effect on the backup right?🤔🥰
@ProductiveDude
@ProductiveDude Жыл бұрын
The backup should be 100% separate. I don’t think it will slow down your account unless you had like hundreds of backups or something

I have definitely realized that you really just need a computer to build a system and after that you can use it on mobile, I'm currently working on a Notion Second Brain but I struggle with creativity and designs, and finding properties ideas is difficult for me aswell

I think my biggest weakness of Notion is definitely creativity and trying to re-invent everything

I still can`t fully understand why a lot of people prefer Full page Databases. Personally I prefer using inline, at least most of the times. I mean, the page can be more customizable in this way. I can add an Archive toggle on that page, and have in it linked view of that database in the same place (page), while having other linked views on the other pages. But when I use Full page Database I can`t have any other thing there. And also this different cover size of background images when you have a Full page DB slightly irritates me, cause I like having everything similar in one system. Yes, I know that I can have an Archive as just an another view in Full page DB, but that`s just an example. I mean you still won`t be able to add widgets or something else. Of course I get the idea that Database page shouldn`t be overfilled because this is not its purpose. But I still don`t think that the only thing that should stop you from Inline DB is accidental deleting of Inline DB. I mean you still can move it back from the trash. And theoretically, Full page DB also can accidentally be deleted. So for that purpose I would just create Main page "Databases" where I`ll create subpages for all my Databases but inline. And, That`s the way your Inline DB is protected just as Full page DB. The only thing that works a bit strangely for me, is when you delete an inline DB and than restore it from the trash, the restored one automatically becomes a Full page DB and I believe you actually can do nothing to this. I think that`s all i wanted to express haha. Anyways it`s better when you have lot of choices how to act. I really like the content you make and it helped me to figure out a lot of Notions features. Keep it up and good luck.

I agree that full-page databases have some significant shortcomings, but you get the best of both worlds if you use full-page databases and then create linked databases. To give an example of something you just can't do with a single in-line Tasks database: you can't see two views at once, but must instead toggle between them. Whereas with linked databases, there are no limits to how many views of your original database you can see side-by-side.

Exactly - full page is best because it keeps things organized and flexible. If you want a full page database with an inline feel, just create linked databases elsewhere in your workspace of that full page db. Inline is only really useful to me when I'm creating a page template and I need to have a new db within it every time I use the template.

Sooo, what if you made a dashboard with all inline databases and now you don’t want them…everything I have done to try to get rid of them from that page deletes all the entire databases. I originally made the databases on separate pages and then “inlined” them in my dashboard and now I can’t get rid of them there. Super frustrated lol.

Cheeky question time. You had your best month whilst on holiday selling your template. What sort of money did you make in total? 100 dollars, 1000 dollars, 10,000 dollars. I am intrigued as to just how big a market there is.

I'm 100% guilty of using inline databases instead of full page, I do use full pages now almost always but when I add for example 1 database page named School with School Work/Tests then I do inline so I can add multiple databases in 1 page
@ProductiveDude
@ProductiveDude Жыл бұрын
You can add multiple dbs in one page by /linked database and linking your full page databases. This is the same look and feel as inline except you have more organization and flexibility in your system.

@@ProductiveDude Sounds reasonable but ugh all the inline dbs I already have- dread the idea of creating these new pages. Notion is fun but can be a lot of work! I wish I could make money from it but I imagine everything's been invented already. lol.
