I’m a bit older and today’s digital saves are like when we used to rip stuff out of magazines and file to reference later. You never reference later (except those rare unicorn people). Tip on books though, when I come across one I might want to read/listen to, I save in my Audible Wish List and/or Amazon Book list or Libby (Library) list. Then when I’m looking for my next (usually listen) it’s there to choose from. I also use the KZfaq Watch Later list when a video pops that interests me but is either too long for the moment or not where my head is at the moment. Then try to use that list rather than scrolling the feed mindlessly. I really wish YT would give us a way to organize subscriptions into “folders”. I have those that I watch all the time and others that are more sporadic or someday maybe hobby channels but I don’t want to lose in the unpredictable algorithm

Came here to say that. For books I see in a shop I'll take photos, then spend a little time on gardening those photos before adding to Libby or Amazon. Same with recipes I find in physical magazines and other things that I'm looking to buy.

Pls make the ‘dumb phone tutorial’ ! Also this is something i think about a lot. I did a few weeks going without social media and it was nice. There was a point where I always had something playing whether it was Spotify, KZfaq or a reel on instagram. Like many others, I realized that when I was left to be with my own thoughts and have no stimuli in my ear like music, I would be deeply uncomfortable. Getting rid of all of it has significantly helped my attention span and I often go without my headphones throughout the day whereas before, I would always have them. Nowadays, I reintegrated Facebook, KZfaq and Reddit and to be honest, I now use them more often then I like. I use them on safari instead of having the apps downloaded and I alway delete the tab when I’m done so that I have to put in the effort to retype the app I want to use. I also cleaned my KZfaq so it’s only like 20 KZfaqrs I’m subscribed to and I have less than 200 videos on my KZfaq watch later and likes, which took forever to clean. I’d like to do the same with Facebook but ik it’ll be a while. I’m hoping to slowly start leaving my phone in a drawer or something when I’m home so that I’ll have to do anything else but it’s a work in progress. Ultimately tho, I think it’ll be worth it :)

Also I forgot to mention, but a good place to start, at least imo, is the stop watching reels or shorts. Anything like that is a huge drain on my productivity and most of the time, I don’t remember anything out if it because mindless scrolling doesn’t allow me to grasp anything in any significant way. Not watching them has been a good jumpstart to my journey

It was really cool to see this because this has been a concept that’s on my mind lately. Like it’s so strange how much digital clutter weighs on my mind, like I have to watch everything in my subscription feed and my watch later, because it feels like a unfinished task if I don’t. I try to do a monthly digital cleaning, of organizing my photos and putting any important information I want to log from screenshots into my notion. It’s nice to feel like it isn’t just me haha

What I have learned about self help and most YT advice. IMO self-help experts (like me) are not extremely successful themselves. If you feel like you are drowning and try and fix everything at once using every method at once. Your best bet is 1-3 fixes at once, get that down over a month or two, go from there and keep what you gained. Most answers are simple and hard, not complex and easy. Hope this helps somebody.

I don’t watch my watch later playlist, but I like the idea of having more time in the future which I know will never happen because I’m a productive woman and whenever I make some time free, I will rather produce instead of consume. My consume time is mostly when I eat, drive or wait. Those are the times when I can’t produce on my MacBook and it’s too hard to produce on the iPhone so I just don’t produce when I drive or eat. Like this, I can never have clutter. I wish you a wonderful Sunday evening and a good start into the new week.😊

So first your video prompted me to clean out my photos folder on my phone so thank you. Next I use these videos (productive videos) to help me get motivated to get up and do something. Plus I get ideas on how to clean faster, get more done and still have free time. I really don't save any videos unless I really feel that I am going to use the information long term and I need a reference point. I have also in the last few days added an app to my phone that has a timer and a blocker so I can set how long in a day I want to use, say FaceBook, once that time is up I can no longer get on that app. I am trying to use my time in the world more wisely this year. I want to read more and do more crafts, not scroll my life away.

I love this video!! I actually recently found myself disconnecting from productivity content because of this exact reason. I found myself either judging the way these people were doing things, wasting time when I should've been productive (or worse wasting precious free fun time), or thinking this was the newest system to change my life (when my systems currently are already working for me). Productivity content will always be great when you find yourself in a rut or just needing an extra push, but you definitely have to find the correct balance or otherwise you will be just procrastinating.

I must say I didn't listen to you and watched the video until the end. 😅 I totally agree that we've been looking for productivity tips to show us how to live out best lives, but I felt inspired by your video. I feel like, even though you are my productivity guru of choice, I understand that you are just like me and sometimes just doesn't keep things organized and it's fine. I think sometimes we want to have a sense of control that's just not feasible and not healthy for us and we need to stop trying to be productive the whole time. I understand that some parts of my life need more structure than others, even because most of my life is based on my jobs (I have 4 because I'm a teacher). Só when it's something for myself, I test some things that work for me, but through trial and error I've noticed that sometimes "not doing" or having less structure is what keeps me sane. I'm sorry for rambling so much in this comment, but I just wanted to say that I love your videos and I get very inspired to try new things and take care of my mental health because of you! ❤

Hi there Rachelle! Would you ever consider posting a vlog-style video that would demonstrate how you fold your scheduling into your world? For those of us that are still learning, I know at least for me, I'm finding difficulty in adding in this massive change of scheduling and life planning into my life (as opposed to spontaneous doing). It seems so massive but I imagine it would be illuminating to see what this looks like in the life of someone who is practiced in the art of planning. Thank you!

I've greatly reduced my phone use. I've even made lists of what I can do instead of using my phone. Phone use is still a problem. KZfaq and Reddit. Reddit it's Stardew valley and books/kindle/libby. KZfaq? Well I started going down the budgeting rabbit hole. Cash stuffing. Bujo layputs. Because I AM going to do those things. But I really need to get back into watching crochet and sewing videos because they motivate my hobbies. It's a mess. At the end of the day I've really made good progress tho. And my planners Help So Much. I want to document the journey so I can look back and appreciate the progress. But yeah. KZfaq and Reddit.

To be fair, "Present Shock" was a decent book when it came out. Not sure how well it has aged.... Do you use "Downtime" and "App Limits" functions in iOS? I usually set my phone to go dumb from 9:30pm to 7:30am, but I might change the start time to 8pm so that I can give myself more time away from the phone and to tackle my "to be read" pile of books. The only downside is that the limits within iOS are relatively easy to defeat.
