Partition has to be regretted not only for the tragic events that followed independence but also for the utter failure of the the leaders, particularly of the Great Britain to stall the same. Their specious imagination of "Majority" suppressing the "Minority" See what is the realty in both the countries. In India the minorities though enjoying full-fledged rights as everyone else continue to accuse the of oppression and in Pakistan the majority virtually annihilating the Minorites. How hallow was their justification for partitioning the subcontinent. Further though Pakistan born as a Muslim country declared itself to be a secular State allowing the people to follow and propagate their religious faiths has unfortunately turned a purely Islamic country much to the detriment of the people of other faiths there. On the other hand the position in India is absolutely no different from what it was during pre-partition days as far as the composition of population is concerned. The population of Muslims in the remaining India after partition is more that the Muslim population in Pakistan. In what way India stood to benefit from this point of view. He rightly said they wanted land and not the people. He rightly recalled the speech of Sardar Patel about the enmity among the people. It was indeed the creation of the British, "Divide and Rule". Surprising that partition was decided by the British as early as August 1945 ! Why blame Indians for the same ?

Maharaja NS Sarila, who was the ADC of the last three Vice-Roys of India wrote in his book that in 1934 the British had decided to create a separate country where the British Army would stay in case India would get independence. The British army would secure the route from SuezCanal to Australia and also they resist the entry of the Soviet Union in the Middle East.The British employed three agents Gandhi, Jinnah and Ambedkar io execute their plan. Gandhi refused to accomodate Fazal Ul Haq of Bengal, Allah Bux of Sindh, Sikander Hyat Khan of Punjab, Khan Abdul Gaffer Khan of NWFP and Khan of Kalat of Balochistan. Ambedkar was against the freedom of India always. Jinnah was promoted by the British.Gandhi even in 1943 prepared a Partition Plan. He gladly accepted the British proposal without any opposition.

He did not address one important point that is raised now-a-days: when Pakistan was created specifically for Muslims to live according to Islam and avoid Hindu domination, why didn't they (at least most of them) move to Pakistan upon partition? Apparently, they felt comfortable living in India with Hindus. This blows a hole in his proposition that both sides wanted to retain their religiousness. What should be regretted is that all the Muslims were not sent to Pakistan. That way ALL Muslims would have lived peacefully in Pakistan and ALL Hindus in India, and the debate would have been solved for ever.

That's the point. We should not regret partition for the division of a land mass but for the separation of people. But yes,in good faith everybody believed this will be the end of tyranny. What followed was/is unpredictable, unexpected and unfortunate.

Both the countries had suffered in their quest to become robust and succesful state, yet little has been achieved. Let there be a peaceful exchange of population between India and Pakistan. All Muslims should go to Pakistan and Bangladesh in exchange for all non-Muslims of Pakistan and Bangladesh (East Pakistan before). When Pakistan was made for the Muslims only, there should not be any Muslims in India which should be only for the non-Muslims. That will also solve the Kashmir problem as the non-Muslims of Kalas, Chittral, Kafiristan, Hunza valleys can come to India and stay in the Indian part of Kashmir. Unfortunately we had Nehru and Ambedkar who imposed secularism on us ignoring the historical fact of the partition of India based on religion.

This is a view of books written by the west. Cast was was a British concept to divide and rule the people. Varna was never hereditary, it was a constrict created by invaders to segregate communities and create an elitist regime the can dominate religion.
