I tether every headshot session to show the client's the images and sometimes even have the laptop facing them (especially women) so they can see how they look and can adjust to look how they want to after my direction

I almost always shoot on a tripod. It allows me to use both hands to freely direct the subject. It also helps for consistency with team headshots. Btw, I also shoot with the A7iii and 70-200 GM. I was using the Tamron 70-180 until about 3 months ago. It was a great lens, but the Sony GM is a different kind of monster.

The 70-200 GM is a beast. I was shooting with the Tamron 70-180, which was good. But the 70-200 GM is on another level.

Looks good! One thing to note...a typical headshot is actually a 4x5 aspect ratio, and eyes should be on the upper third for correct composition. There's a couple different schools of thought with this, but that is the standard format.

Great Head Shot tutorial, Mike. I have a few coming up. Q: I'm looking for a video transition effect I'm sure I saw in a few of your videos...pretty sure it was you...but I can't find it now. You are panning across the front of a house, and you pan right through a post or a pole or a tree or something, and that something becomes a transition to the next clip. I don't know what this is called, but it is an incredibly cool effect. Do you know if there are any tutorials online about this effect? I would really like to learn it. Thanks

The strobes are daylight balanced, so as long as you're not dealing with interior ambient light polluting the shot, 5500K works. If you shoot at a slow shutter speed (

Just an observational thing. I loved all your content. Very helpful! But I found your habit of waving your hands with almost every single statement or more, very distracting. I had to cover your hands in order to keep watching the video. I understand this is probably an unconscious or a nervous habit and so would be hard to stop doing but if you can decrease the amount you do it even, that would help a lot. All the content was great though and thank you very much for the video!
