Thank you for your commentary. The piece was originally written by Igor Krutoy for the voice of acclaimed operatic baritone Dimitri Hvorotovsky (RIP) and lyric coloratura soprano Sumi Jo. I love the way Aida and Dimash sound together. For this event, Igor chose Dimash to sing two contemporary classical pieces he originally wrote for Hvorotovsky, this one and "Ti Amo Cosi". At this same event, Dimash also sang "Olimpico" and "Passione", both songs that Igor wrote specifically for Dimash's voice, and "Know", a piece he rewrote for Dimash, originally sung by Lara Fabian, lyric soprano.

Ironically enough, Aida had said to Dimash at rehearsal - “Dimash, you don’t need any of us - you can do all the parts yourself! “ And she was serious - Aida was as impressed to sing with Dimash as he was with her.

Finally fooled you, it was Dimash who took the final high note in this song. While this is an Igor Krutoy composition it was not written specifically for Dimash or Aida. This was a birthday gala for Igor Krutoy, who is at the piano, and there were multiple performers, not the least of whom, was Andrea Bocelli, and they were all performing songs written and or composed by Igor.

I think Dimash assigned that "masculine" punch as an artistic choice contrasting with and highlighing the beautiful "feminine" flow of her voice in this romantic piece. I've also seen him deliberately adjust his voice to his partner's voice in duets, male or female always making them shine. I noticed his choice in this, and you did as well, to me it was deliberate. Known for being laser precise in his choice of the color, timbre, tone, weight and placement of every note, word and equally so with every phrase when he sings, this was an obvious choice to me. An opinion, and thank you for your time and effort on our behalf ! I appreciate it.

@@kevinnguyen5042 Aida sang the last note, and Dimash matched her in high tenor. I missed it several times, being used to Dimash`s high notes, until I finally noticed a tenor note in that finale, and I realized it was Dimash. But yes, when he takes a high note other times, he sounds just like Aida, which is why she joked that if she needs to step out for something, he can sing her part 😄 But in Ulisse, just like in Ti Amo Cosi, Dimash stuck to low range, and the girls sang the high notes :) And his high tenor note at the end in Ulisse is gorrrgeous :) P.S. Not gonna comment on the ongoing 'obsession' with the differences between professional opera singers and Dimash "not choosing this path". It seems like this HAS to be mentioned every single friggin time, as if we don`t know what field Dimash has chosen. Or the obsession with "actual voice volume". Nobody asked Peter to organize an audition at an opera for Dimash and give him a pass to join the opera. Don`t understand that point Peter keeps making. I am glad that Dimash chose a career where he has concerts in front of 20.000+ people, so I can have a shot at being among them and hear him live. That`s all I`m gonna say. I don`t know why professional opera singers don`t make reactions to other opera singers and be done. Why bother with non-opera singers with questionable volume and keep comparing techniques. Beats me.

Well, according to his own words, Dimash is a tenor. No surprise then that he has to darken his voice to get down to bass level. Too bad we rarely hear him sing operatically as a tenor because he often sings either lower or higher. Also, this piece was written for a baritone (as other commentators said), not for Dimash. Furthermore, I missed a comment about Dimash´s vibrato. In your Ogni Pietra review, you kept complaining that he did not sing all notes with vibrato as he should if singing proper opera. (Besides, Ogni Pietra is more like a rock opera so Dimash did not need to sing the notes in full opera mode.) .Finally, I am quite amused that you attributed the D6 at the end to Aida. Speaks for Dimash´s soprano quality though!

Absolutly brilliant. I have seen this before as I have followed Dimash for a long time but it was great to have their voices explained with all the high's and low's which you would never really think about until it is pointed out to you. Very interesting. Thank you Peter Dorothy x ( Grandma North East England UK )

I really wish reactors would do some research to avoid incorrect conclusions. This piece was not written for Dimash, but for a baritone. Igor has been composing since before Dimash was born, and he has composed for many singers. So much confidence in statements that are completely wrong is very offputting.

i love your enthusiasm and I don't mind these long interesting informative videos. But, he was doing the D at the end, not Aida. I was confused by that as well the first I heard it, but that's 100% Dimash's voice, I know it too well by now. You're so right about him sounding like a soprano when he wants to and this is a good example.

Oh, I also love this performance and I believe it deserves more recognition. They sound great together. I can hear how Dimash needs more larynx push (even though not as well as you do), and that that is not his shining range, and I'm amazed at the same time that he sounds so good, while having that amazing crazy high rage too. He really does put in the work for it all.

What Dimash was doing there .. was singing the D6!!! 😁 After all the praise you gave Aida for that note!! I could hear quite distinctly that she sustained her last note and Dimash went up to the D6, (without having listened before) so, kind of surprised you didn't pick it up .. but .. all is forgiven!! 😁🥰

It's very interesting to me how Igor, who is known for taking classical pieces and expanding them by adding contemporary touches, has combined these two singers together in a beautiful blend of both genres! She is singing pure opera while Dimash intentionally weaves in the contemporary, creating something more dynamic in this already gorgeous piece of music! (It took me a couple of times through to realize that D6 was our boy Dimash too. He sounds very much like Aida up there😅!)

Couldn't you argue that if most people can't tell the "difference" between an expert and a novice opera singer that the difference is made up? At what point do we just admit that the differences are just so undetectably small that they are meaningless?

Amused when you were commenting on the house music contribution of the back beat - reminiscent to me of my youth when there was a musical series known as “Hooked on Classics” where famous classical works were reworked with modern beats. Igor is very adept at his compositions and there are a few I’d love to hear Dimash revisit. I have noted that Dimash’s bass has been improving since pandemic. (More rehearsal time?). He has developed more sustainability and support to his lower register, although I haven’t heard him in the more classical style with the lower registers. (Even his 2021 SOS doesn’t go phenomenally low, but is more supported when he does the drop than the 2017 Singer version. Stranger also offers more supported low register.). Surprised you didn’t note that Aida sustained while Dimash went up at the end of this one, but there was a lot going on! Good reaction (and under half an hour!). Cheers from Canada!

Appreciate your analysis and sharing of operatic specifics. Alwaus fun to learn something new and sharpen the ears a bit more. There will always be some backlash from some Dimash fans who are carried away by hus uniqueness and assume he’s perfect in all things and better than evetyone he ever sings with, and thus can never be xritiqued, even with no negative intentions. Your comment about the low notrs was quite correct. He probably hadn’t worked on the bottom of his range as well at this point, since that’s not where his uniqueness lies.

Interesting comments, it's good to have the opinion of an actual opera singer. Thank you! Obviously, for proper opera you need an opera house, this is a sports (ice hockey) arena, too big and not good accoustic conditions for opera. This piece was originally sung by Dmitry Hvorostovsky, I don't know if written for a duo, since I've seen several performances with him and two sopranos, Aida and Sumi Jo. When performed as trio, Sumi Jo used to take the mezzosoprano voice, and Aida the upper voice. The last high note was Dimash, earlier that day in the rehearsal they were playful, Aida joking "If I can't come, you can sing my parts", so they humorously decided that Dimash would take that last note.
