A perfect "Call me if you get lost" companion album? Maybe. The various layers and levels of cool on this album deserve a lot of attention and thought.

My interpretation of the lyrics in mhm that you were having trouble with "Chip cuz tell em come and zip cuz" He just killed somebody and is saying come and zip em up in a bodybag. "hundred on his headstone homies call me rich cuz" Whoever he killed had a bounty on their head and he got that money for it now. "flip cuz candles cause they miss cuz" When someone dies in the hood it's common to have candles lit around like a picture or poster of that person. He is showing disrespect by saying he'd knock those candles over. "dog ways baby cause I'm park raised" He's saying he acts the way he does because of where he's from, Ramona park. This is how I understand the lyrics but someone correct me if I'm wrong 😎

A couple quick corrections Vince - although born in Compton - grew up in and claims the Norfside of Long Beach Vince is definitely from the streets he just doesn’t fit the stereotype society paints of somebody from that background and doesn’t care to actively play into it he just wants to make music he feels slaps P.S. He also had another great Harry Potter referencing bar on his song, “Lift Me Up” if you’re interested As far as newer projects I’d recommend IDK’s USEE4YOURSELF because while it may seem deceptively shallow on the surface it actually mirrors Backxwash’s album in a way in how it explores how even though he is part of an African Diaspora he couldn’t abide by the expectations set for him by his family members

Welcome to the Vince Staples fan club! This is def the most mellow, laid back Vince has ever been. He has a lot of great tracks; I like his harder music more, but it's an interesting new sound for him. Listen to his older stuff... it's definitely not "sing-songy." Watch vids for _Norf, Norf; Senorita; Fire; 65 Hunnid; Lift Me Up; All Night; Hive_ (with earl sweatshirt) and _Kingdom_ (with Common)... Edit: "Cuz" is what Crips call each other, Professor. Vince is a Long Beach vet, not Compton - we LBC natives claim him! Edit 2: You're a badass for holding _The Shining_ above all films. Kubrick is my artistic North Star... no one's better. Edit 3: Yes, too many sleep on Vince.

Yes, Vince is underrated. Born in Compton but from Long Beach City (LBC). Very important distinction for those of us from the LBC! Vince is someone that Earl Sweatshirt pushed to make music. Those two are the future of West Coast Artisan Rap as far I can tell. You are a gem. Keep doing what you're doing. As far as who is next? Evidence - Unlearning Vol 1. Great project from another West Cost phenom. There is also a Dave East and Harry Fraud Project coming out July 30th.

Just a little context! Vince openly admitted to to being active in his gang up until his EP called Hell can wait. Maybe even up until summertime 06. He hasn't shied away from his involvement and he was definitely pretty involved. Vince has kind of explained himself as the kid who would go to the bathroom to read a book during school, had great grades, etc but when he was outside, he was primarily with his gang. His family had a bloodline of being in the crips hence his line "blood introduced me to this crippin." That was either on the album or his most recent freestyle. Great analysis!!!

Vince is pretty underrated. Surprisingly, people don't mention FM! It has the same smart/dark word play that is heard on this album. Definitely the next Vince album to listen to after this one. Prob move to summertime 06, then big fish after.

vince is very well known in the hip hop community, hasn't quite crossed over yet into the mainstream but he's right on that line. Similar popularity wise to a danny brown or earl sweatshirt type where the general population may know of them but not their music necessarily. All of vinces albums are worth a listen, id recommend hell can wait, summertime 06, and big fish theory. All very sonically different and interesting

I know you love yeezus so I’d recommend big fish theory by vince staples. Definitely the best unofficial “offspring” to the sound that came out as a result of that album. Vince is a crazy talent. He really operates on a high level Igor by tyler and testing by asap rocky are also two other gritty, industrial albums inspired by yeezus And as far as vince yea he’s definitely underrated not underground per se he’s worked with big names like j cole, bon iver, billie eillish, asap rocky and came up as an affiliate of tyler the creator’s music crew so he’s definitely known but i feel some of the “critic class” and commercial listeners definitely don’t give him his dues. For me he operates as a mix of MCs like cole/kendrick and artistic curators like kanye

I do think Tyler is more well-known for being better at flashiness / causing a reaction, but Vince also isn't totally underrated, though different people are catching on to his quality at different points because he keeps switching his aesthetic on each album, kind of like Tyler, but more emphasis on context instead of changing his vocal approach too much. Summertime 06 had an organic feel (live instrument samples, natural progressions throughout, vivid representation of environment): A common favorite. Prima Donna EP had a slightly more rock star quality contrasting depressively sung interludes. Big Fish Theory was more IDM-ish, and was exactly what I needed when I was still getting over getting out of a longterm relationship. FM!'s concept is pretty obvious, but effective. (Also w/ Kenny) I do think it's interesting that his last two albums w/ Kenny don't seem to be blowing up like the mid 2010s stuff, but maybe I'm wrong and it's just more low-key, gradual. Regardless, Vince does what he wants and it works for making quality music.

"Are You With That?" Are the conditions for joining a gang. How do you get he isn't in a gang? 'The city is going up in hell flames, so prepare to kill with the bust. We're going to see who is down with our gang bc you're going to commit murder for it. We're really spilling blood. You're a tough guy until God (I) (the judge) is in your face with a firearm... If I die for my guys in a shooting, have a candlelight vigil that's akin to a club scene, after that go kill them. Are you with these instructions?'
