That's true, I didn't talk about Homura directly much, but the impact Mami had on her was felt for sure!

In Magia Record, theoretically, in the timeline before Homura got jaded for seeing Mami death so many time, we can still see what is her ultimate goal yet she is still inspired by Mami ideology.

Magia Record is not defiinitively canon. Even with all the possible connections, there is nothing confirming its canonicity as of right now and everything is solely speculation.

Well in that timeline she actually has friends, so I personally think Mami's character development is just a little different. You should watch the entire Magia Record anime season 1 (just in case if s2 exists), it's a clear example how she changed in different circumstances

@@petertjahjadi6219 Yeah, she had friends for like 2 weeks after however many years of isolation. Also, I have seen magia record (though it is a spin off / different writers / non-canon). But even in that scenario Mami was only able to cope with the truth under extremely special circumstances (and even then she still almost went crazy). Ultimately, she was still pretty unstable.

But Mami killing them was still justified to some degree. Sayaka had just turned into a witch, and this of course, threw Mami into understanding shock that completely destroyed her world view. Even still, Mami knew what she had to do. Afterall, if Sayaka became a witch, then what was stopping any of them from becoming a one as well? The only two choices for everyone (who wasn't Homura or Madoka) was to turn into a witch or die. It was inevitable. The only timeline where Madoka doesn't turn into a witch or die is the one where she becomes a god, and that's only because she had so much fate attached to her. Homura didn't become a witch because she time hopped for as long as she did, and she was still extremely close to becoming one in the true timeline. Those two were the only exception to the rule, so it's understandable why Mami did what she did. Even if Homura went back in time, she could only go as far as back as a month, so she wouldn't be able to stop Mami and Kyoko from becoming magical girls. Madoka couldn't have done anything because she had already made a contract with Kyubey in that timeline. The only way to avoid becoming witches was to die. No matter how many grief seeds they collected, no matter how much magic they spared, it wouldn't change their fate. So Mami took it all into her own hands. Even though Mami was half way insane in that moment, she still thought logically. She tied up Homura, knowing that would negate this timeline and then shot the next person who would most likely put up a fight which was Kyoko. Mami's only mistake was leaving Madoka out of the equation, who shot and killed her just as she was about to finish off Homura. Her severe lapse in judgment cost her her life and put an end to the attempted fratricide. Mami in this scene displayed vulnerability, logic and most of all, courage. The only thing she didn't show, which is usually her fatal flaw, was selfishness. Although she was willing to kill the other magical girls, she was not the exception. She was going to end her life right along with them. She attempted to cease their eventual transformations into horrible creatures that brought only death and curses. Compared to that, dying would've been the preferred option, which is exactly what Madoka chose when she asked Homura to mercy kill her before she could fall into despair. The truly selfish thing to do would be to accept their turning into witches, which is exactly what Homura almost did had Madoka not given her the grief seed at the last second. Even Madoka's solution to stop magical girls from turning them into witches is killing them, albeit in a gentler way than Mami's. Dying or disappearing was the only way to prevent it, so was Mami really unjustified in that moment? It's completely understandable why she did what she did, even if morally it was still questionable.

I personally don't think Mami is not that irrational but I find her she's also have integrity principles, I kinda feel very bad for her on her new miserable magical life like the world doesn't sees her nothing special or she feels :( The Different Story manga it makes her even more special than ever. I don't care what people saying to her character either it's right or wrong person

Mami is my favorite character, and so seeing people misinterpret her words and her meanings is really damaging, and so, seeing this comment, you, post this and explain, oh so well, how Mami feels and how confused she had become and how confusing people find her, it’s really nice, rewarding, seeing someone understand her character as if it was you own. Mami's witch form actually has familiars that look like Kyoko and Sayaka or Kyoko and Madoka depending on the timeline (both her and Kyoko have super interesting witch forms, and I could talk about Kyoko's in particular for a long time as she's my favourite of the cast). I'm not sure if you read the spinoff as it was recommended by other commenters, but if you haven't, I strongly suggest it. It really builds on Mami's (and Kyoko's) character(s). Everyone else also has great moments too.

Sayaka witching out in Different Story felt plot mandated to me. Like apparently she witches out in every timeline, which feels contrived, like a character with no agency, mostly beholden to the plot. Funny enough, the only way Sayaka is allowed to escape this is if Urobutchi isn't at the wheel.

Damn Kyoko having that history w Mami makes so much sense in the show tho. Answers my question of why she’d even be in the other timelines despite showing up as a result of Mami’s death in the main one. Also puts her offense towards Sayaka’s “Mami’s gone bc of magical girls like you” remark into a whole new perspective. Always thought that was a lil weird considering she initially wanted to kill Sayaka.

@@loliwinxedits6095 the 3rd drama CD and The Different Story show that Kyoko used to be exactly like Sayaka, a spunky idealistic girl who believed in using her magic to protect people and idolized Mami before her family’s death left her jaded and she decided to split off from Mami though Oriko Magica and the PSP Portable do show timelines where the two are able to interact in civil terms

It is sad that she's the "happiest" of the group, but the most alone despite that. And she didn't have as much of a choice like the others, which makes it even more depressing. She really was forced into loneliness

I think Mami still thinks logically when she snapped in timeline 3 she isn't loses her mind but she feels like she was directed towards to do that by herself that doesn't mean she willing want to kill her friends to prevent from the horrible fate actually she didn't willing want to kill them and herself when you look at her cried on that moment. Because when she's became a magical girl from the beginning she felt she became a terrible person or heavy burden to anyone that she's being really responsible to them but it isn't her fault either. I speculated she suffers from extreme Survivor's guilt which make her mental becomes very fragile, her lack of social skills which make her isolated from the outside also she just wants a normal life and having a friends or she wants to be loved by the people that she loved NOT a magical girl duty because it makes her life didn't meaning at all which ended up being misguided of her life no supports, friends, family or anyone else always alone forever. She's felt she was being wasted by making a wish by herself by not saving her parents as well, That's her main flaws. But I feel the same with you, I also feel like I just wants a friend like her even she's an imperfect but she's way more better than that. She's definetly my favorite also her fighting style is unbelievable amazing

But, when I watched the series again I started to think about her as the Keystone of Sayaka's downfall, and it made her much more important. But, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed! @@ProfessorViral (Kuroko = Kyoko) If you didn't know Kyoko is Mami's first close friend it's quite sad their friendship broke apart after Kyoko's father went drunk goes insane and murdered his family then commits suicide leaving Kyoko a survivor, And Kyoko abandoning her loss of humanity. Mami even tries to console her but Kyoko treats Mami is nothing but a burden to her that's why Kyoko became just like you said (Anti-Mami), she changes the idea what Mami taught her as a magical girl so much, He's explaining about "The Different Story" manga where Mami survived in that timeline after she saved by Sayaka. Remember Mami also isn't a selfish character, she just thinks that a magical girl is a grandeur to her and knows that "becoming meguca is suffering" 😅 so in her heart she doesn't want Madoka and Sayaka to get involved to the magical girl world or becoming the exact same like her too all she wants is just be good friend to them. So I think what she feels was right but sadly the other magical girls sees her as a "competitor" imagine like 1 only good person and the others are the survivors acted selfishly. (I imagine That's also why many people hated her character because it's good but wrong 😭)

As usual, badass characters always have dark tragic stories like Kyoko and Homura, Why people love them so much because they're easy to be likeable and relatable character even Sayaka and Madoka. And I guess their strengths is mostly shown very good like they're didn't do wrong and on the other hand Mami is just... 😭😭😭 Mami's character is a little bit harder to likeable in general because her lack of screentime and her role actions aren't that easy to be justified but if you read The Different Story manga or the others franchises like Madoka portable and Drama CDs you will love her even more because of her tragic past. So you have to invest her character more deeply with more typical "psychology" what she really feels about and now you see her as a human, most of fans often didn't know that she's actually a great natural-born leader of the group who trained her bestest friends become awesome group of witch-hunting fighters but she never forced them to become perfect like her also the one whose been protecting so much the city all day long alone by herself while other magical girls are rivals just for a "grief seeds" to survive. That's what makes her is a best girl 💛

Sayaka is my favorite of the anime, but I really enjoyed what Mami brought to it in such a short time

For sure, in most other series Mami would serve as the initial motivation; her death would *physically* force the protagonist to action, or some promise they msde would serve as an easy motivation. But the idea of Mami is what drives Sayaka and Madoka forward, so it's almost like her character doesn't end when she dies. I think that's part of why, in only a few episodes, she can feel so impactful and important

@@ProfessorViral the fact that she is what drives characters forward reminds me of Kamina from Gurren Lagann. His character barely has anything in common with Mami and has more noble motives, but his memory and words are what makes them continue their battle with the Spiral people and win. Kamina is a role model for Simon.

@@luckyowl10 Mami wasn't totally persistent to them, her real feelings she didn't really want them becoming magical girls she knows that becoming magical girls is all suffering just loneliness and pain. she was pretty honest the risks and dangers, so she opens herself to Madoka at this scene. I think you've been misunderstanding about Mami or you're too open minded about your favorite character besides her, Kyubey and Homura's character here has a role to Mami. Kyubey was actually trying to manipulate the girls without telling them anything about how dangerous it is to become magical girls in the first place. He didn't care about a system magical girls but always deliberately lies for a reason, And Homura has a lot of experienced about Mami's death she never do anything remotely to Mami to trust her instead she's insulting her. She just being acting shady to Mami because she only sees Mami is the obstacle that led Madoka becoming magical girls but guess who is trying to tricking Madoka so she can be with her forever and rejecting that person's growth?, Mami isn't such a selfish girl she just feels herself like that after she realizes she could save her parents as well in an accident where she regrets it a lot
