Smuggling of counterfeits do not only cost the government billions of shillings in tax revenue losses but also exposes the public to unsafe products imported by unscrupulous networks of illicit traders. But in a country of fairly well guarded borders, why is smuggling of goods across the border still possible? Citizen TV’s Senior Reporter Seth Olale spent months observing activities along the Kenya - Ugandan border where he witnessed how unsafe goods make their way to Kenya. Here is our special feature, ‘PROFIT WITHOUT BORDERS’

This report adresses the wrong problem. Why not have completely free trade, like the European Union? These borders are not of our own making anyway.

We cannot have free trade when laws across the regions aren't harmonized! Dictator allows every and anything into his country and you want us to allow it in?

But products have to be tasted for counterfeit or toxins. Its better to grow our food or buy from known farmers.

Kenya and Uganda should take the lead in demonstrating real integration. Our countries are joined at the hip and these borders make no sense. Let Kenyans come to Uganda and invest in real business warehousing for the grain trade. On a plus, there is now an mycotoxin removing machine being run by PeLa Commodities in eastern Uganda. So that challenge should not be there for formally traded grain 😊

There's no narrative. You're just slow. What is being said is that TOXIC GOODS ARE ENDANGERING THE HEALTH OF MANY KENYANS. THESE GOODS ARE BEING SMUGGLED INTO THE COUNTRY. Translation: The problem isn't that we are trading with our neighbours, the problem is that trade carried out in this particular area is fraught with illegality and the import of potentially hazardous goods.
