Programming REVERSE THRUST for E-flite's 80mm F-16

Just a quick how-to video. This took a lot of digging and head scratching, but I figured it out and wanted to pass the info.
Apparently this trick works on any NX, iX, or Gen2 DX Spektrum radio with a model having an Avian ESC.

Hey everyone. Great video Andrew! PILOTS MAKE SURE You don’t double assign your reverse to anything else. I assigned my reverse to my safe channel and nearly lost my jet when I flipped to safe and also went reverse thrust when I was doing a demo on safe for video. In my case with a jet that had flaps I needed to use channel 8 not 7. Double check you’re not doubling channel assignments.

This worked perfectly for me. Every step. I learned that I had to go into telemetry and select "auto-config". I had never set up telemetry before. Also, could be a no-brainier but the RX needs to powered up and bound to access these screens. Thanks for the awesome how-to!

The aluminum heat sink on my BNF E-flite 80mm F-16 was facing up instead of down toward the air duct for the EDF unit. I thought it looked odd when I was putting it together, but I left it that way. In the 90° Texas heat, the FET temperature hit 225 °F and it shut the motor off during each of the first three flights. After I flipped it over, the temperature came down to 197° and the motor kept running..

Did you ever figure it out..? I have the nx10 also and I just got the jet but can't assign safe to a channel and I can't get the Avian program page to go into step two for the reverse thrust programming..

Yea, can't get my DX8E Gen 2 into program mode. I have the ESC programming box though. Might just use that. Its already preconfigured in the Draco. Same ESC. Wasn't sure how well it will work in the F16 with the cheater holes and fan blade but.. looks like it works enough. Good job man!

@@paulballard4243 lol. Yea, I tried a few different things but just couldn't get it to go into programming mode. I have a spare 100amp Avian esc and a 637t reciever. Gonna do some bench testing.

@@paulballard4243 Ok, dunno if our new favorite RC dude Andrew's radio is different or he just forgot this step but.... Before connecting the battery, put your throttle full up. Let it power up with initial beeps. If you don't put it back down to calibrate the stick after 5 seconds, the ESC enters programming mode (as per the Avian ESC guide). Then, go to the ESC programming page on your xmitter, do the stick down left for 5 seconds, down stick right for 5 and...you're in business! Well... I can make the changes but having a problem getting it to "Save and Exit". Still tinkering. 😋

ive got the NX10 and this F-16 also but for some reason I cannot make the avian program page go to step 2 for the reverse thrust.. ffuckin laaame.. Can't get safe select to program to a switch on my radio either... And I've done it before on other Jets

little to fast for me to grasp what to do.. especially for the mix setup.. I'd love some more detailed steps on the mix.. did you mix throttle w/ the reverse channel?

I had to pause and go back and fourth too. The TX already assumes the channel is for throttle since it is "a reverse thrust feature". On your mix screen you just make yours match: -H- > AUX2. I assigned mine to H... When you flip the switch it reverses thrust and the the throttle stick just does it.

I believe the reason there is no mentioning of reverse thrust in the manual for this jet because it’s not scale to the full scale Falcon. But without flaps how else can you slow it down for landing?🤷

I maiden my f16 and almost lost it due to hitting the wrong switch!! I'm done with reverse thrust. Not convinced I need it anyway. I landed with flaps and had no issues. Personally I think it's just a novelty anyway. Just so someone can say they have it just because someone else has it.
