¡Hola, gringas y gringos! We spent 2 months living in the barrio of Ismael García in Progreso, Yucatan in November and December of 2023. Today, we are sharing our cost of living and the things that we loved and didn't love about Progreso. Will it make our final cut as a potential place to settle down?

Just started watching you guys. That was an excellent video and breakdown. We are planning on moving to Merida full time, but we do plan to buy a house. We have been several times for an extended amount of time and that is our spot.

It's amazing the amount of money you could save if you were able to rent vs Airbnb! Otherwise, your costs seem to be within range of other cities. At least you can rent when you hit QRO! I love the wrap-up videos, keep 'em coming!

Another great wrap up video! Not unlike you, we are not "beach" people. We enjoy it, but don't want to just sit on the beach all day. I had a visit with Marc and Paulette in Potosi last week. They are setup nice! So many options, lol.
@GringosRUs
@GringosRUs 6 ай бұрын
Yes, San Luis Potosi has a lot to offer. We think very highly of it and are going back to spend some more time there. The beach tends to be a little more expensive, but then that is true in any country that you travel to. Nothing new about that. Thanks for the kind words and tomorrow, our 2023 wrap up drops.

Restaurant expense wasn't really so bad considering the number of times you went. We eat out Fridays and Saturdays and it's usually almost double that per month. 👍🤠✌️

It wasn't outrageous at all. But then places like Chen Pollo and Win Chang both were extremely affordable and both were good for multiple meals, most of the time. LOL

Wowzer, that was an expensive month. 😢 I used to think I really wanted to live at the beach, but with the limited services and increased home maintenance, I decided to give up that dream for a lower-maintenance life.

Yeah, Denise, we were sort of shocked when we actually tabulated the numbers and they were a lot more than what we expected as well. That quickly removed Progreso from the list. Fun town to spend some time in, but not where we would want to spend all our money at to live.

We figured it out after a year and a half here in Cabo San Lucas, we are on our road trip to Cholula/Puebla as we speak waiting to get on the ferry in la paz on Thursday to get to the main land and travel up to our new house, it will be a new adventure lot different than Cabo San Lucas

@@peggyclark7713 We actually will be heading your way later this year. It take a while in a location to really get a feel for whether it works for you or not. While we do get fatigued from the constant movement, in the long run, I think it will be very beneficial in selecting our ultimate home base here in Mexico. That is our plan anyway. LOL

Thanks for the video. We are planning on visiting Progreso this fall to renew our RT. Did u do the change of address first at Progreso INM?

Our facilitator, that we found through the Mexico Relocation Guide, did a wonderful job of handling it all for us. The change of address, the RFC and the renewal of our residency. It was really simple and we liked that INM office as it was not overly crowded and it made things very simple to get done. Thanks for watching!

Can you drive to the Cruise ships pier?, or you have to walk?
@GringosRUs
@GringosRUs 6 ай бұрын
Neither. It's a VERY secure area. You have to apply for access. For example when I went to the Aduana on the pier to get the TIP extension, I had to submit a photo, then a few days later, I was given a QR code matched to my photo for a one time pass onto the pier. The person who took us to the Aduana office had an extended pass so she could shuffle people back and forth to the Aduana. Cruise ship tourists catch a bus at the ship that brings them into Progreso, then back to the ship. ~Gina

We have lived in Mexico for almost 2 years. We are trying out different locations for 1 to 3 months each to see if we like that location. It is the smart thing to do before making a final move only to learn it's not the place you thought it was. Things like weather, infrastructure, shopping, and neighborhoods need longer than a couple of weeks to get a feel for a location.
