Season1: Episode 7
Project Fast Fish is based on the restoration and modification of a Plymouth Barracuda.
This video features two LA small blocks that started as 318 engines. One is going to be the heart of Project Fast Fish, the other is being sold to help raise funds for the project. The video ends with a side-by-side comparison of the sounds each motor makes.
Check out the other videos for additional information on these builds.

Love em both but I really like the sound of that 390. Shes real mean! Perfect motor for my 68 Fury build. Thanks for the idea!

Nice. We think the 390 will be awesome in the Barracuda. Can't wait to share that with y'all once it's installed. Thanks for watching.

Im currently build a 318 to a 390 as Well and I'm concerned. Was the choppiness in the Idle due to the Cam Selection, or is it Due to the Increased stroke length and that just the normal hesitate in-between Stroke ignitions?
@MicsMotorworx
@MicsMotorworx 3 жыл бұрын
That was from our cam selection. There are plenty of options with smoother idle characteristics. The 268h in the 349 is an excellent example. Thanks for watching.

Have you ever used longer rods with custom pistons
@MicsMotorworx
@MicsMotorworx 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean. In these Mopar small-blocks, not really. The factory length is 6.123" in all LA engines. There were variances with configuration to accommodate floating pins and such for certain displacements. The pistons we went with for the 349 were chosen based on the additional stroke produced by the 360 crank. The convenient thing is, manufacturers are now matching crank, connecting rods and pistons based on application. Our 390 build is houses an example of one of these. Thanks for watching.

I don't understand why you don't ream all casting flash, which is known to be a major cause of block cracking. I'm sure you have a reason. Could you share it with us?
@MicsMotorworx
@MicsMotorworx Жыл бұрын
Sure. Plenty of sources point to the contrary. Block cracking is usually from other reasons. UTG has some good points to consider. The only flashing I would have ground away is in the valley for oil. Even then it's not needed for this or other street applications.

390 DEFINITELY sounds more aggressive with that cam lope. I'm curious what they'll pull on the dyno.

It's going to sound great in Project Fast Fish. We're trying to get the 392 and the big 437 to the local Dyno, but the guy that has the Dyno is in the midst of race season.

We estimate 350 to 370 hp at the crank. We haven't placed it on the dyno. You can watch the entire build starting kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iL-fg9ufsLjbmKs.html and the Craigslist ad is in the sales video. Thanks for watching.

I like the 349 stroker. Not too big to rev, not too small to lack power. The 349 is a good street motor. I was going to use one to tow my race car years ago, before I lost the cars because of divorce. And, something you need to know, there is no such thing as back pressure. It’s a myth. There can be restriction in the exhaust, and that’s never a good thing. Or the exhaust can be too big which kills low end torque, and that’s never a good thing either. Everything has to be matched. But there is nothing called back pressure. It’s just a shade tree myth b6 those who don’t know any better. I believe this had been addressed on Hot Rod’s Engine Masters video series that was aired on you tube. They can explain th8ngs a lot better than I can in such a small place to do so. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. When I used the statement, "None of that back pressure" it was referring to the restriction in air flow from the other intake. Not the best choice of words, as there was excitement from the change the intake made. Thanks for watching. 👍

Agreed, there is no such thing as back pressure. There is something called exhaust scavenging, which is NOT back pressure or anything remotely similar to that concept, but a simple set of mid length or long tube headers gives all the scavenging your engine could ever need.

That's nice like.im trying to find a good formula for a 360 Magum for about(550HP)I like what you do.can you help me with a formula for it. I'm 62 my memory is about gone.ps just subscribed to your channel.thanks Rick

@MicsMotorworx 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Rick. Thanks for watching and subscribing. As for 550 hp out of a 360, one might aim for a similar build to our 390, but go with a roller cam that would permit a little more duration then our Crane grind, roller lifters, and some heads that allow a little more air to pass through. Let us know how the build goes.
@GrantOakes
@GrantOakes 2 жыл бұрын
For 550hp from a 360 you'll almost certainly need to go to a 4" crank for 408 cubes, seriously ported Edelbrock heads and a Hughes Engine cam. They're designed specifically for the larger tappet diameter of the Mopar lifters and feature more lift for any given duration, that will give you more torque at any RPM and that my friend creates more HP.
@GrantOakes
@GrantOakes 2 жыл бұрын
@Ragingbull340 While that CAN be done the motor would not be very streetable or be able to use pump gas, except perhaps E85. As for torque, 486/360 equals 1.35 pound feet of torque, that's a very high mark for a wedge head requiring a lot of porting, rendering the lower end of the RPM band rather weak. If the motor is strictly for the strip, then it's certainly doable.
