By the way I replaced the same sensor you replaced in the video, nothing happened with my car about high fuel consumption. Even Mine was completely broken, but there's no hesitation , but I changed it any way with the thermostat when I did the cooling system flush.

Wow! @9:08 I was very very surprised about how easy it is to access the ECU on a 1st gen LS-400 !!! 2nd gen LS-400's are located behind a new (larger) "glove/map/manual" box and rotated 90 degrees to vertical behind the Nakamichi CD changer which takes the place of where the 1st gen "glove box" is located. Thanks for making another very informative LS-400 video that will be helpful to everyone now and in the future. P.S. I hope that in the future an AI is trained on your LS-400 wisdom videos, and not on others out there...

#1 If there's an air leakage in air hoses between air filter body and throttle gate , this will cause high fuel consumption, you should make air leakage test . #2 if the upstream oxygen sensors are weak or not functioning well or very old or broke, that's will cause high fuel consumption. #3 very dirty mass airflow sensor, will cause high fuel consumption and hesitation . #4 old weak spark plugs will cause high fuel consumption and hesitation. #5 very old dirty fuel filter will cause hesitation. #6 bad coils can cause hesitation , in your car , you have two coils connected to 2 electric distributions , one in each bank then connected to spark plugs cable s , this distributions sould not be Worn out from inside. My advice start with upstream oxygen sensors, you will feel big difference..... Disconnect the battery before replace them. Waiting for your update.

During this project I have replaced all the parts that you mentioned. Apart from the Oxygen sensors, but I've measured them and the check out just fine. I will further investigate the wiring loom and vacuum lines, someone has tampered with that in the past. Thanks for your comment!

@@Carnold_YT if you replaced all above , then sometimes weak torque convertor make same hesitation issue .

@Carnold_YT 3 ай бұрын
I keep my fingers crossed that won't be the case. I have some other leads tgat I first want to investigate.

@@Carnold_YT it's easy to know, just watch the RPM especially in the highway , if you need to press the accelerator more and more to keep the vehicle in same speed, that's mean bad tourqe convertor or weak transmission , and high RPM mean high gas consumption. It's like the engine gives all its power to push the vehicle forward .

@Carnold_YT When I go to part store or order online, what is the EXACT name for temp sensor for ECU? I'm getting confused on the what I see at local part store. 😀

Hi there, replaced the sensor, no change, but discovered the wires on spark plugs were original, mechanic recommended a good tune up, maybe that will resolve the poor acceleration and fuel consumption! Thank you so much and I will keep you posted. 😊

@@cathefreeman8853 Oh, fresh spark plugs and leads are always a good idea. I will look into my fuel pressure regulator too, I think my remaining issues are a result of a low fuel pressure. Let me know what results you got from changing the plugs and wires!

How was the fan operation with the old temperature sensor? On my 1999 Corolla, the dash temp gauge sensor has started to show a bit colder than is normal sometimes since last year (after an oem thermostat replacement also, that didn't fix it), but I think the ECU sensor is fine because the fan still runs in stop and go traffic. Another good reason to follow fuel economy. I have my car registered on Spritmonitor for this reason! Very enjoyable videos, the Mash engine rebuild one got me hooked :) Cheers from Leiden

A low coolant temperature reading can also be caused by a sticking thermostat - this is quite common with older Toyota engines. Did you check that already? In my case, the fan operation was normal - the fan uses a different, seperate temperature sensor (it's a Lexus after all, why use two sensors if you can have three?)

@@Carnold_YT Oh ok I thought it would be the same 2-sensor system like my Corolla. Yep I changed the thermostat with a new OEM one and it didn't change anything. Mostly it shows correct besides having it drop a bit (at 8:30 instead of 9). Next time I do a cooling flush I'll order new ones. 50 euro a piece from Louwman if I remember right, not bad for peace of mind :)
