An in-depth review of Project Warlock for the Nintendo Switch, one of the best retro shooters out there!
Right now we are in the midst of a most excellent renaissance of 90's style first person shooters. You have Dusk and Amid Evil from New Blood. Ion Fury with its Build engine goodness from 3D Realms and of course DooM 2016 and Eternal from ID Software. But now I am happy to say that Project Warlock from Buckshot software can be firmly added to that list.
Taking inspiration from the likes of Wolfenstein and DooM Project Warklock is a fast strafing, fast shooting pixelated rampage through various levels inspired by fantasy and scifi. In it you blow away scores upon scores of enemy's with a vast array of upgradable weapons.
I has been out for some time on Steam but now comes to the Nintendo Switch to spread its demon killing goodness.

Project Warlock was developed by Buckshot Software and published by Gaming Company and Crunchy Koalas. It is available for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

I beat Project Warlock a couple of weeks ago on my Switch! It brought back a big part of my video gaming childhood growing up with a lot of the games that inspired this one! I also played and beat Ion Fury also which I loved that! I'm currently playing both Doom 64 and Duke Nukem 3D World Tour 20th Anniversary Edition as I'm waiting for Dusk, Amid Evil, and Wrath: Aeon of Ruin to all come to the Switch!

Nice! Yeah I’m really looking forward to seeing how Dusk turns out on the Switch. I’m currently playing through Amid Evil on PC and man that game is damn good. Feels super good to control.

I played this on PC as soon as it came out and god damn it's amazing. I'll probably pick up the Switch version on sale at some point because replaying it on the go would be sweet.

Had an absolute blast playing this on Xbox One, - love it! Agree with you that the lifts are a tiny niggle as you can't reactive them if you hop off. Also while the magic is fun, my first playthrough I completed the game only purchasing one spell - Light - which I never used. But it is great to have that option. Really looking forward to a sequel!

I just finally got a switch and boomer shooters seem a great fit for it. I see nothing but good reviews for this game, I am definitely going to buy it and I have no doubt about the gameplay and soundtrack but as far as I know I am the only person on Earth who thinks the colour choices are horrible. Regardless of the level it looks like the battles are all taking place inside the butt of someone who is dying from bleeding ass syndrome. But the actual designs look great and I'm looking forward to it, it's just... those colours, man!

I played PW a few years ago on pc, and I enojyed the game, there was an issue with the balance of the weapons like the upgrade of the rocket luncher that make super sonic rockets, best weapon by far, and a combo that made "infinite" ammo (don't rembmber how but was easy to imagine how). Really cool throwback.

if you want infinite lives just go the main menu and reloasd whenever you die. It takes less than 30 seconds on pc and your lives never go down. Really helps on a hard run in the early game.

30 fps, but it seems to be mostly stable with the exception of the loading screens. Project Warlock is a graphically intensive game so I expected 30 fps

I want to get into this game but I just can't. I just find the whole being force to do the level in one go to be really annoying. I do wonder if you get stronger after you die because I feel like no matter how well I play, I just get my ass absolutely whooped.

Tbh you said the game feels more like blazkowicz than the almighty Slayer. Imma be a nerd here and point out that when referring to classic DOOM, the Slayer has nothing to do with it since doomguy didn't become the DOOMSLAYER until DOOM 2016 Same way calling the protagonist of 2016 and DOOM ETERNAL "doomguy" is incorrect. You wouldn't call the antagonist of episode IV or V Anakin Skywalker. This is no different. Sorry for being a lore nerd

I found this game to be pretty crappy, poor visuals , guns seemed to delay when shooting, i ended up deleting it after about 15 minutes of play. i'm playing the pc version, don't know if that makes a difference but this just looks like a game you would get in the bargain bin in the 1990's. I wouldn't waste my time with this when there are so many better games out there right now.

Since I have a switch, I look for switch-specific reviews like these that show the graphics and performance on the switch. I am sure there are other people on the same boat.
