@@TheRealNormanBates it's not a bad idea to spray something in your engine especially if you thinking of putting it into the storage for longer preiod of time. I would spray something into the intake while cranking engine and then hand crank and spray individually in each spark plug hole or injector port if it's a diesel. i would mix all brands togheter to obtain all features lol

I'd suggest using a wire brush to clean and clear exposed fastener threads, is probably more important than the fluidic ability to carry the nut over the threads. Really breaking free frozen nuts and bolts should be the big consideration here..

As a professional mechanic in the rusty midwest i used to be a PB blaster guy until i saw your videos. Switched to liquid wrench and haven't gone back. Best performance for the price.

@@ProjectFarm I usually have to deal with rusted latches, such as pintle hooks, instead of bolts in my job. I used to use WD40, but now that I've watched your comparison, I think I'll switch to the cheaper Liquid Wrench.

Time for another penetrating oil showdown? I’d love to see a “mechanics” format. Maybe do 3 arrays of bolts, and apply penetrant in the vertical, horizontal and upside down, all using the spray nozzle. It should only sit fir 15-30 min MAX. This would better replicate shop conditions, where time is money! Keep up the great work!

Hey PF, I used to drive Caterpillar 777 rock hauling trucks in a mining company. Every December, the maintenance crew would start winter rebuild services and to remove the giant lug nuts, they would heat them with an oxygen acetylene torch and then immediately hit them with ice water. The expansion and contraction breaks the rust very quickly. Usually one time around would loosen the nuts. Excellent vid and a very methodical approach as usual. Appreciate your time and effort.

@@brianjonker510, I watched them a few times and they would get the nuts glowing orange. Now not every nut got heated, most would come off with the impact and they replaced all of the nuts with new ones. The nuts were throwaways, they would try to not destroy the studs.

@@TheMattc999, I know in the three years of employment, I never wrote up broken studs or nuts on the inspection report. But bear in mind, these trucks had like 46 lug studs to bear the load.

Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 is the best "rust converter" paint I've used except for the industrial stuff that I was told I couldn't buy anymore for some reason. It's mostly made of the same stuff, so idk why I can buy one and not the other, but oh well.

Agreed! I've always used permatex anti-seize for spark plugs, exhaust bolts etc. but if there is a better alternative I'm all ears :)

My 1990 Evinrude engine on my boat has only been fished in saltwater. The paint is missing from all the fiberglass on the outside. My grandfather taught me to spray the engine on the inside with fluid film. It still looks like brand new not even the spark plugs have rust on them. That's 28 years of service in the salt still works great. I will never use anything else. Fluid film is the bomb.

@@ProjectFarm Maybe that's a good test? Rust blockers. We use FF on our plow fleet (26 trucks, 14 Bobcat skidsteers, 1 JLG telehandler, 2 Kubota UTVs) and I'd be interested to see if there is anything out there that can beat it!

Thank you for the video!! You saved me a ton of time and money! I had a rusty wheel hub that would not come off even with a 7 ton pulley puller. I soaked it with Seafoam Deep creep, let it sit a few hours, cranked the pulley puller one turn and the hub broke free! After we took the hub off we could see were the Seafoam really did creep deep into the grooves. Awesome stuff!! Thanks again!

Every once in a while I would pick up the Consumer Reports annual report at the magazine rack, while my Wife was getting groceries. Being in Electronics for 30 years, I had many people ask me about which name brand is better. When they would mention 2 or 3 brands and I would then say that ALL of them were made in the same factory, different front boards and panels and all the rest identical. That's why I asked about WD-40 and Boeshield, they smell the same.

Great episode (as always)! One thing I think is a good mention here is, if you can get the nut to move, it's very important to rock the nut back and forth as you remove it. This will almost always assure you get the nut off without stripping or breaking. Lord knows I have broken many off that initially loosened. Definitely took more times to learn my lesson than it should have :-)

First of all, great videos. I was thinking it would be great if you could further enhance the series and add CRC products to the tests. They have Screwloose and Freeze-Off. Another cool test would be to use an induction heater (Mini-Ductor) to see how well they would work with the penetrants since there is no flame.

Thanks for the excellent videos. Very well done and very informative. I am surprised that these products only reduce force required to losten a rusted bolt by roughly 10% compred to the untreated control. I figured it would make more of a difference.

Well consider that these nuts were originally only torqued down to 80 Ft-Lbs. If they were torqued down with more force, more force would be required to get them off, that difference in ft-lbs would grow, and be even more significant. Also depending on the tool/wrench used, it could mean the difference in potentially breaking something like a ratchet vs not breaking it. Also he starts out with new bolts. If these were bolts that have been rusting for years, it could mean an even larger difference in force required for removal. Along with the fact that the heads might be even more worn, and more likely to strip, so less force might be the difference between stripping the head, or getting it off. The point is, you're always better off using something vs nothing. Also more time for penetration is always better. These things can come in super clutch in more sensitive areas/projects. Where a broken bolt, stripped head, etc...could be the difference between a 15 minute job or a 4 day pain in the ass project.

Excellent thorough testing. I passed up SeaFoam for Liquid wrench years ago primarily over price. Worked fine over the years. But now it's been confirmed, I'd made the astute choice.

Time being a huge factor here... what happens if you wait even longer than 24 hours? Say you temporarily give up on a project but give your problem a little bit of penetrant once per day. Will it continue to get easier over time and when do you hit diminishing returns? Thank you for your videos as always!

Question: although Gibbs produced the best overall result in tourque required, which of these 3 products would you use to remove a 2” trailer insert that has very solidly seized into the receiver? Would sea Foam’s ability to penetrate (and climb), and heat, be the most beneficial product to use in this situation?? Thank you again for your very informative videos

I like your attention to detail in all of your experiments. Using the same environment, same measuring devices, applying the product in the same way, etc. The only changing part is the product. It makes for really good data collection and trustworthy results. I am in the process of removing an exhaust and purchased Liquid Wrench based on your experiments. Zero snapped bolts so far.

E3 spark plugs for the win. Hands down. Factory plug in my chainsaw will allow me to cut wood for 20min. Switched to a E3 spark plug and I can now go 30min on one tank of fuel. Same with my lawnmower. I also use these in my truck and my wife’s van. I swear by them.

@@ProjectFarm seriously, it seems to me that all of these products are "somewhat" helpful but only reduce the amount of torque needed by around 10 to 20 lbs, who is going to notice that without using a torque wrench? A simple propane torch seems to be a much better investment.

@@ronc8598 sorry but I can't read "bust a nut" without giggling, but in response, 10-20lbs difference compared to a normal torque value of 150lbs is not noticable by hand. Especially when heat alone has a significantly better effect.

Seafoam did resist the heat and pressure tests. Seafoam may not be viscos enough for a stock oil pump. So a small engine test in a four stroke motorcycle. Would be required, or due to its high lubrication capacity. Work as a two stroke engine oil. But then again, seafoam resists burning in high temperatures.

Andrei, he already tested them. These 3 were the best of all the penetrating oils by a long ways. Sadly I used to think kroil was good stuff until the video project farm did showing it really didn’t perform well at all!
