Thank you so much for this. I feel like doctors have been misleading me for years now. I went into my family doctor as a teenager and had an ECG because of some chest pains and was never told the results. 15 years later, I'm due a psych appointment for ADHD medication and was required to take an ECG. The nurse told me everything was fine but sent me to my GP to confirm, who told me that my ECG looked normal except for (something) "which could just be anxiety." I have a little bit of white coat syndrome, but I also have asthma and PTSD+anxiety, so everytime I've had blood pressure or heart rate taken it was higher than normal--but a 24/hr bpm proved that my blood pressure was actually fine and would drop to normal levels at night if I wasn't exerting myself. So when I took my ECG results to my psych, I was none the wiser... until my psych pointed out on the chart I had a prolonged QT which disqualified me from taking some medications! I was in shock! I had no idea what it meant! I tried googling it too and all the results looked awful. When you mentioned family history of fainting or sudden death, I do actually have fainting episodes but my GP said it's probably just vasovagal. Now I'm wondering if it's something I should look into more or if it simply is just anxiety, which I am actually on anti-depressants for...

Hey! Just make sure they’re not using the Bazett formula. If your heart rate was above 100bpm and the machine used Bazett formula, there’s a good chance that the machine will flag up long QT syndrome but it’s actually just not calculated correctly according to the fast heart rate. I had long QT come up but after a million tests after, I don’t! X

I had a lot of ECGs, but Long QT syndrome only showed up on a couple of them when my heart rate was high. The ER doctors were never concerned. One of them even told me he thinks it was just a machine error because my heart rate was fast. I went to a cardiologist I was anxious there, so my heart rate was 118 on the ECG. My QTc was 498. The cardiologist wanted to do another ECG when my heart rate was lower. I managed to get it down to 107, and this time my QTc was 440. The cardiologist came back and said he thinks I have Long QT syndrome. He reviewed my case with the electrophysiologist, and they believe mine is a reverse case because usually it shortens with high heart rates and prolongs with lower heart rates. I'm set up to get genetic testing and was prescribed a beta blocker, which I'm scared to take. I wish I knew if they had calculated it by hand or not. Long Qt Syndrome is my biggest health fear. I have severe health anxiety, to make it worse I have little ones I'm scared I'm going to die suddenly with no goodbye's. Worse part it's genetic 😢

It’s simply terrifying… and I’m sending out so much love to those who are waiting for results. Went in for palpitations waking me up at night and found out I had a long qt. Still trying to figure out why and am waiting on results 3 weeks from now.

I have been having bouts of going in/out of consciousness that have increased in frequency over time. Yesterday I found out I have a long qt. I’m so confused about the episodes and if the recent diagnosis is why they’re occurring. I was cleared (after extensive testing) maybe 6 months ago by a cardiologist! I’m so curious about the things I keep experiencing and why they’re happening. Could you please share some of your symptoms? I would greatly appreciate it. Maybe even your own opinion if possible. I would be SO thankful. Have a great day.

I suffered a sudden cardiac death in 2019. Saved by my CPR trained wife. 26 nights in CICU. Dual ICD pacemaker/defib implanted. Post hospital stay showed A-fib. Have had RF ablation. Long QT is most commonly a genetic disorder. Many young athletes have collapsed and died. I am a fit 72. Make sure you have an ECG by qualified cardiologist EVERY YEAR.

I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome (very similar to Long QT) and had an implantable defibrillator put in and life has been extremely normal! :) Thank God for doctors and nurses!!!

I remember you telling me this story Jason! Funnily enough I’ve spoken to Pedro Brugada himself! He also has two brothers snd they came up with the name for Brugada! I’m sure you already know this. He’s also very knowledgeable about Long QT and quickly reassured me that I was fine. Such a nice guy!

@@cherellethinks but my ecg which I did 4 days ago showed 383 and after 4 days I did again because I am cardiophobic and it showed 423 first then I was in panic why my previous ecg showed 383 and now it showed 423 then I went again same day it showed like this 427,408 and today I went again it showed 418 I am literally confused how ecg machine gives different interpretation by the way my heart rate used to vary during ecg like 100,90 at last it settled in 80's.i am only 22 plz let me know something that can help me?.

@@aestheticvibes7524 You have no reason to worry because they are all normal QT levels. Your QT will never be the same. It’ll vary throughout the day just like blood levels change. Your QT is totally normal

Oh, you poor thing! I so relate to you, I actually need to giggle because it’s uncanny. So, when I was 8 weeks pregnant, I was admitted into the ER (Australia) for heart assessment because I was super anxious and pulse was around 140 B/PM. They did an ECG and the doctor came in and asked me the same questions: any history of sudden cardiac death in family, yadda yadda yadda. I said no and the doctor said they had seen an “orange” flag in my ECG and did not specify what he thought I “may possibly” have, but did say that I would need an echocardiogram and 24 hour halter in hospital… I was beside myself, especially when they told me (whatever the condition was they thought I had) could be treated with medication but could cause miscarriage/fetal abnormalities 🤦‍♀️. Long story short - it was a false alarm. But I can relate. The heart is not straight forward and anxiety can definitely mimic dangerous disorders. Blessings, lovely ❤️.

Having had several episodes of adverse drug reactions some of which involved arrhythmias requiring referral to A&E for ecgs I have concluded that it is difficult distinguish between inherited and acquired LongQT. There is a range QT intervals which could be either and with the variability of machine derived measure of QTc it makes the diagnosis of LongQT even more problematic. I once achieved a QTc of an indicated 500ms at 75 bpm heart rate from my own four lead ecg device which I believe was drug induced. I could not however preclude the possibility of having inherited LongQT until I did my own hand derived geometrical measurement of QT of 440ms at 55 bpm from a graphical trace.

I was admitted to hospital for three days this week with paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation (rapid rate) they did this to monitor me because they increased my beta blocker (Sotalol). Yesterday my cardiologist told me I now have a slight increase in my QT prolongation, which can be a side affect of taking Sotalol. I was told to get another ECG done at my GP in a weeks time to check the QT prolongation isnt getting worse.

My ECGs show prolonged QTC but only with fast heart rate. Cardiologist says he thinks I have LQTS, no family history. I had some anxiety my heart rate was 123 showed prolonged QTc then he checked when my heart rate was 90 it was normal 10 mon later. I've had 20 ECGs all normal except when my heart rate fast. They want me to start beta blocker , I already have low blood pressure. I asked cardiologist if he hand calculated he said no machines are accurate. Anyone have any advice ? I have extreme anxiety

I woke up this morning remembering i had a higher heart rate last night. So now my heart rate went from 100 to 160, thinking i had a heart attack or other heart illness. My heart rate is still a bit high (normal 85-95bpm, now 95-110bpm). Probably from the caffeine, i never drink that much caffeine a day. When i think about it, it goes up real quick, when i'm talking, it goes down a bit. I have a pulse thing at home, but try not to check every 5 minutes.. probably nothing, but ill contact my doctor.
