Eric, great video, as always. I aint really surprised with the outcome, but only because I've saw similar testing. I use to run Edelbrock intakes because they were good intakes. I know I'll catch slack, but I'm a big supporter of Brodix. I ain't ran their stuff out of the box in years, but I have only run their head castings for 15 plus years now, and I'm a fan of their intakes too. A lot of it has to do with performance, but I like American-made, family-owned, and they've always treated me great.

All the Victor Jr intakes have been greatly under estimated over the years .... most street strip guys would be further ahead with them.... .

Hey Eric, Tim here, my gut says the Vic Jr did the best b'cuz of combination.......yes, its OBVIOUS that the hulk is NOT designed for this combo, but the Vic Jr for you seemed the best, as your cam, and new heads, allow th Jr to shine, ur in its sweet spot...........i cud go on, and my brain has more to say, but we have life pokin at us......LOVED the vid, and i am STILL the proud owner of 2 EWR t-shirts (wearin one now)......ur vids are WAY more in tune with me, than most others......LOVED it........PEACE to you sir, and look fwd to next vid!!.....just love it!!!!!....

Good information Eric! I'm playing with a set of 13.5* Brodix heads for the first time and I am limited with 2 or 3 intake choices.

I've had a port match Vic Jr on my 383 with Afr heads for years as a recommendation from a cam builder. 👍

Thanks much Eric. Did a 355 sbc years ago for a friend using ported 461 heads, and vic jr 244 in 200 ex cfm, swapped to Canfield heads, ported to 209 cc, i think 212 ex and 1st gen Super Victor, picked up 5 mph shifting as same rpm even. Stock rod bottom end so the owner kept the rpms safe for his bracket car. Just saying upgraded heads go a long way

The Hulk intake, works a treat with the Aussie Racer Pro heads. They are a raised runner head which suits that intake perfectly

Awesome video. Back in the day we always went back to the victor Jr on our 358 dirt modified. Maybe some spacer adjustments for different tracks.

I love building 406 chevs, awesome engine and easy to make 550 street hp with shelf parts. My favorite build I do is 406 flat top Motown single plane. Custom solid lifter flat, yes flat. Afr 210 830 holley 13/4 headers. 570hp at 6100 515 t 4700 Ive built about ten of these and they run hard and are very reliable. Cam is 248 250 @50 560 lift 105 lobe sep.

That dang victor jr is outstanding my buddy's 350 SBC he used for spec Sprint racing with world 200cc head and I raced it once my very first time is has a victor jr intake and it was pretty fast and he told me that compression is pretty low and maybe a 600 camshaft lift and he said that engine even though it's not as fast as his bigger more expensive combos he said this one with less compression with the victor jr intake actually won more races and I think it was the slicker smaller tracks it won at not the big tracks but still did really good

Great stuff Eric as always, still have a victor jr from back in the day. On a 355 ported 291’s needed more gear but on the highway 140+ was possible. Don’t do that anymore though.

remember he did that when a customer sent in a ported vic jr. super victor couldnt beat it . but it's application dependent.

Most racing oil pressure is at the dry sump pump, manifold looks great , the tall one

That TrickFlow intake is specifically designed for 400+ ci engines. It's also designed to go along with their 230 heads. Put that intake on an engine that can really use it, and you'll see what it can do. Plenty of room for nitrous in those ports as well.

If you can, it's best to run the oil pressure gauge off the front of the engine if you can, it will lose oil pressure there first to shut it down before it will do damage all the way to the back of block on the bearings...

We made a 1/4” aluminum plate matching a 4500 carb gasket but the inlet cut to 4150 and no vacuum leaks

That little victor jr. will clear a lot of hoods too. That's important so you don't have a 6" riser or hole in your hood.

After testing the Victor Junior with great results and the new version of the professional products with the other heads (the third-place intake) do you think the professional products offshore intake would perform as well in comparison to the vice Jr with the 215 Project X heads. Also looking online at offshore intakes, is the Speedmaster intake the same thing as the third-place professional products intake that you tested all of the different brands of offshore intakes all look very similar.

Curious if you’re doing individual cylinder exhaust temperatures or afr’s? I’m wondering if distribution might explain the differences…

Get some moroso ceramic block seal I used it forever on a motor that was like that if it start leaking I just run a little of that through it and it stopped again worked great

Always has been. Its just that over time People have been told its outdated and bought into newer ,supposedly better intakes.

2 years ago i did a 421 Afr 235 11.5 Pump gas Stroub custom solid roller Super vic intake Shaft rockers. No dyno but in a 72 nova with 3 inch exhaust it ran 10 flat at 130 first pass. Car even has a 4l80 e trans. 650hp?

Great testing Eric, the Old "Victor Jnr"....Does it again.!!! ... On that block crack- possibly some cold stiching-but stay away from sleeve not to put a Buldge in that, grind a V in it and some epoxy... Or just keep on using it as is... Its Working..

400's crack. It's common. I had one crack in the vallley that lead to oil pressure problems. Took me a long time to find it, only leaked when running under power. I've got another 400 cast in the Tonawanda plant that's been holding up for years... so far. If / when it cracks I'll switchi to a 350 with a 3.875 stroke with a 4.030 bore for a 396ci. Close to Square motor run great too.

Eric is using a Dart SHP block it really shouldn’t have cracked.

@@stevewalters6853 I don't disagree, however the forces put on a block and all of the parts that are in distress are hard to imagine. Some parts also have flaws that would never show unless they were abnormally stressed.

@@Comet-hn3gm My bad after further review I suppose he’s lucky to have gotten 150 dyno pulls and still going after having a previous failure and a sleeve as you said things can only take so much abuse.

10.5K RPM in a 23 Degree SBC that's a pretty serious build! Mind sharing some details? Class? Etc.

This test overwhelming shows that generally speaking 23 Degree heads don't like a lot of area/taper in the runners, hence the earlier edelbrock manifolds doing so well. One intake that would've probably been right at the front on this test is the 2814 that was designed for the bowtie Vortecs. I have personally seen that outrun a fully ported SV2.

They don't like it, especially when the MCSA is upstream of where it should be... the throat. Very easy to kill power when getting greedy with intake manifolds on 23⁰ stuff, or any intake tract where the throat isn't the smallest area.

@@jrdmotorsports9718 agree mate, 23 Degree engines are a unique combo to get right. We've done a lot of intake testing on our race program and always end up surprised by the results.

@@michaelcaroscio2504 Same. Here's a tip: Get rid of the choke at the pinch, put it at the throat, and it's a whole different ball game.. Now, the entrance size and taper in bigger intakes can be utilized as long as the rest of the runner is mathematically correct.... 🤫😏

Good to see proof that blind head bolt holes or not, on a SBC 4.125 deal (400 factory or aftermarket) if the block needs a sleeve, be prepared for the head bolt holes in the block to crack. I stopped sleeving 400 Chevy blocks decades ago because of this, good to know a stronger aftermarket suffers the same issues. If it needs a sleeve, it's junk.

I just rebuilt my 406sbc that has Canfield 220cc heads slightly ported and changed from victor jr with 2” space to a trick flow R…….🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Am I an idiot?? Not ran at track yet to see difference 😮😮😮

No I jetted for safety. Same jets are used in almost all combos.

Moroso ceramic seal should fix the leaks and or stop the leaks for a very long time ...... Intake should be run close to it's airflow limit as that will give you the best airspeed ..... Airflow is HP but airspeed is your power curve if the intake manifold runner flows a lot more than the head it will under perform

That's the oldest casting of the Vic Jr ,,, see how they cast in a indentation between the intake runners ? They quit doing that and the ports inside are not cast as big as the later versions of the Vic Jr

Vic Jr seems. Have shorter runners and more straight. Its better, less fluid friction

cracks are overrated. i have many cracks on my 4.3. cracks between the intake and exhaust valves and a crack on the deck by the #1 cylinder intake lifter bore. Engine runs just fine

​@@WeingartnerRacingit would be very interesting for you to expand on the tech in this area of cylinder heads volume/min cross section area and rpm/cubic inch when discussing the upcoming results videos. And for the OP.. back in the day a 383 sbc was a common upgrade but the rpm range would suffer signifigantly with factory castings or even common for the time 200cc cast iron Dart or the World Products Sportsman heads...
