@@redwillow1853 Gloomspite Gitz, Ogor Mawtribes, Khorne Bloodbound, Nighthaunt (plus a whole bunch of Orruks but I plan to convert all of them to Space Orks.)

Most of them are still unpainted though, and I haven't played a single game of AoS with any of them. I just think they're cool.

@@dakkaflakkaflame Whistles! That's quite the haul. I've got Fyreslayers, Beasts of Chaos, Bonesplitterz (probably selling) and Seraphon. I've gotten a lot of games in with my Bonesplitterz and Fyreslayer armies. I also play Space Wolves in 40k, which is the current army I'm working on.

@@dakkaflakkaflame I usually try to come up with a theme when it comes to painting my AOS armies. I'm doing a frozen mountain range theme with Beasts of Chaos. My Fyreslayers will be following a color scheme similar to Fire Giants from DnD. My Seraphon I'm still trying to decide. As for my Bonesplitterz... Their Orks. They're going to be green. Except I'm doing purple and white tattoos on them.

@@FamousJX just by looking at tournament lists for example, a changehost tzeentch army will set you back $450. An adeptus mechanicus army can cost $1070. You can go even lower by starting a BCR army which will set you back $235 if purchased from a non-GW shop that offers 15-20% off.

@@hobbithubby5076 BCR has 2 models, and it’s a low tier army. I’ll admit it’s funny you went for the literally 3 start collecting BCR list. I’ve owned it myself and it’s allot of fun, it also acts like an excellent gate keeper into competitive, as well as a noob stomper respectively. I can counter with the exact opposite meme. 120 witch elves plus the rest in daughters of Kane in over a thousand, fire slayers berserker list in a thousand as well. You can do the same in 40k, where you can make a competitive list of space marines for under 400, or imperial knights when I built my competitive list for under 500 in 8th edition before they completely nurfed my army into oblivion and irrelevancy. I understand that your looking into the quality of starter sets or holiday bundles, however the 40k Armageddon boxes were also fantastic value. I’m not going to say that 40k is cheaper, that would be a lie, but AOS is not any cheaper, at least not within a reasonable margin. This post is long, but I’ll end it with saying my iron jaws were under 700, and my skaven skryre was about the same. None cost more that my knights or orks. My 30k iron hands is going on $1200.

@@FamousJX Ok, lets go another route and check Orruk Warclans and FEC. Both highly competitive and have tournament winning lists at $350-$385 for 2000 points. You've still yet to respond with any 40K tourney lists anywhere near those price ranges. My point stands. AOS is less expensive.

@@hobbithubby5076 where are you looking up these tournament winning lists? All I see is KO tzeench slasnesh and OBR. Are you looking at 5 round large tournaments? Because anything less than that could just be looking at lucky matchups or battle plans. However, that doesn’t mean lists shift, currently I’ll agree it looks this way, “kinda”, but unfortunately I’m out on a date and getting weird looks. I’ll return to this topic later, Really quick, I play all 3 games. So it’s one of those things where my preferences are kinda eh. I like em all. Have a good one.

This. They’re selling Storm Strike as a starter box. Learn the game, and so on. The units with cards that aren’t in the box are sold as “easy to build” kits also on the inexpensive side, but those models don’t come with the warscroll cards. You can certainly get the warscrolls in the Battletomes (AoS’ codices), as well.

Obviously, like you buy a starter set and they tease you with commander/big model to complete it, with a cool photo and even their rule so you see how good they are.

Pusgoyle Blightlords are the bane of my existence due to that. They only come in pairs and you take them in pairs, but if you want to build a Lord of Afflictions, aka the guy that makes them Battleline, is needed for their battalion and built to buff them...... then you have to convert one Blightlord. So his buddy is now forever doomed to sit on the shelf.

I will happily admit that I'm one of those people that dislike AoS for replacing Fantasy. And the lore as far as I've seen though I know I'm not entirely up to speed feels a lot more like 40k in fantasy land. (Well at least some of the early stuff with SIGMARINES) And for either new factions or factions that's gotten new models yeah it looks fantastic. Some of the older stuff is literally just old fantasy models. And some feel like the majority of the army is just that. (Looking at you Lizardmen.) And if not for it killing off Fantasy I might have gotten into it when I got back into the hobby. But yeah, I don't hold a grudge or hate the system or the people playing it. I can see the appeal but I'm just being stubborn in showing GW that no I will not buy AoS because it killed Fantasy. And if I want a squad-based game, I have 40k.

40k Lore is also 20 years older than AoS Lore proper. The WHFB lore is still canon but it's the same relationship to AoS as the HH is to 40k. The thing i will say about AoS lore is that SHIT HAPPENS OFTEN. 40k we've been '5 minutes to midnight' for 20 years. In 5 years, AoS has had Chaos win, then order claw back a small portion of the world, then Death decided to go on the offensive and pushed Chaos back through one of its major strongholds, Morathi became a God, and a major city has been taken over. The grimdark is still alive and well if you look at the current story (Archaeon wins like 80% of his fights unlike abbadon who eeks out phyrric victories). In the past 5 years of 40k, we've gotten the fall of cadia, and a load of fights fought to a draw or back to status quo. Sure it's not as deep, but I appreciate that shit actually happens and there are consequences.

I really like the double turn mechanic. Really keeps you on your toes as you have to plan for it or can take an "all in" risk. No two games are ever the same.

@@isabelh5561 What you don't? I play mostly Star Wars Legion these days, to be fair, but Stormcasts are pretty genuinely fun to paint. Especially if you come up with your own color scheme.

I will say this, they have more personality model to model than space marines. Many more textures and color variation. I personally don't like them, but as an owner of a partial IF army, they're more complex to paint.

The guy who makes these videos doesn't give a shit about the actual game play differences or the amount of bang you get for your buck, all he cares about are the superficial qualities of miniatures or the amount of plastic you get per box. He never has anything objective to say about anything he reviews, and it always boils down to subjective petty bullshit rather than anything thats actually helpful to someone who plays this game. Like for example, this video essentially boils down to "I like coke better than pepsi because red is cooler than blue". Thats his entire fucking argument lol.

Imma second this. I bought Stormstrike to play with a friend, and we love the game and the respective armies that came with the box, but good grief them not being legal unit sizes is obnoxious. Also, I kinda hate how you have to buy (points-wise) AoS units in chunks (5, 10, whatever) instead of paying on a points-per-model basis. That is the only thing I really miss from Old Warhammer, and our friendly group is likely to adjust when we play casual games to give us more flexibility.

@@EonsOfBattle I don't know. They included rules, dice and a ruler but ot enough "pieces" to make use of them.

@@EonsOfBattle also, since it doesn't include paints or tools of any kind it's not really a good entry to the painting and collecting part of the hobby either. I'd say the Stormcast and Nighthaunt paint sets are a much better entry as even though they don't give you a lot of any one thing, they do give you everything you need to dip your toes in. From there you can buy one of the easy to build kits to fill out the unit to try some more or buy full boxes.

Actually the banshees, glaivewraiths and castigators are at their minimum unit size. sequitors are the only unit that aren’t the minimum size in this box

Gameplay wise, AoS units aren’t as heavily based on unit size. Though you’ll get benefits for larger units, most units can contain, “Any number of models” which allows for units below 5 models

They're the underworlds and warcry warband models. Different games. It discrouges people from selling the models online if you just want the cards. Kind of shady from GW. They should sell the cards separate too.

@@txta786 the box he's opening predates both of those games and those models were retrofitted to those games. AoS in the beginning didn't care about unit sizes in general and they sold ETB kits that finished out the units from the box. The AoS starter actually has a big problem with this and GW got a lot of flack for making it so that if you wanted complete units you had to do 1 soul wars and 1 tempest of souls to get a complete unit for everything but the grimghast reapers.

No it isn't, majority of the allegiances in the game are in the fat middle right now. AoS has a better meta than 40k too.

@@mogwaiman6048 Yeah there's 3 'alpha predators' right now in KO, Tzeentch and Seraphon, but then there's like 15 armies in the 'fat middle' and like '5' in the 'low tier' (nighthaunt, sylvaneth, BoC,Gitz, and LoN)

And space marines dominate 40k so much that people have to make entire list based around how to beat them.
