High Qts is not indicative of the stiffness of the suspension. That is what "compliance" is all about. Stiff suspension = low compliance. Qts is the total damping factor that has to do with how much ringing a damped harmonic oscillator undergoes when in excitation. Higher Qts means it rings longer (excitations are less damped), lower Qts means it rings less (more damped). The way this ties into enclosure box volume is two-fold: The main contributors are Qts and Vas. The required box volume, in a general sense, is proportional to Qts^2.87 (almost cubed), and to Vas as a linear factor. for a difference of 0.02, the difference is very little. Qts is also a good indicator of relative motor strength since it's main contributor is the Qes factor, whose main contributor is BL (assuming all else is held constant). So in a general sense, low Qts usually = low Qes = high BL. Too low can kill bass response though. so generally most subs will be in the 0.30-0.6 range. Lower than 0.30 is usually reserved for other applications like strictly ported or folded-horns that require a lot of motor strength, and above 0.6 and you can sometimes get a super peaky response and reduced sensitivity outside the peak.

Great point on the choke point of a push terminal vs direct leads, never gave that much thought. Also great job on videos, I really enjoyed the comparisons. I had 2 12" evl and when I upgraded to much more expensive subs and amp I was surprised that for 4X more money the sound was hardly a noticeable gain lol

Two xfl 12 in a custom box 5square net ported the beat my suv up.

To simplify the connections of direct leads to my amplifiers I have always used copper ferrules. Simply a crimp of a tool.

Stick that vfl next to the vfx an you'll see alot more similarities than it being next to the evl

I just got the xfl 1222 for 200, the new one with the ribbed surround and 1500 watt rms and 3000 max, hooking it up next week on a 1600 watt bench tested certified watt amp, I'm hoping it's a banger for the price, this video helped make my decision.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts man. I agree. I was voting for the American bass. My thought about how stiff the suspension is, the stiffer the better. Mainly for cone control. On some subs with soft suspension, I hear what I call is cone flutter. It doesn't get back to point zero and stabilize before hitting the next note which losses some of the beats of your music. Bass is a sound wave, and a lot of your companies think you need to push more air to be heard; however I have seen subs with tighter suspension and shorter xmax put out the same watt, but since there is so much more vibration of the cone, it's sensitivity is 8-10 db higher. So I do appreciate your video, sorry about rambling on. Can't wait to see what you got coming up next.

on the American Bass website it says the RMS rating is 1000w RMS / 2000Watts Max.

On subs with thin top plates such as the ones in this video X Max can be easily determined by the voice coil over hang .Basically it's how much the voice coil over hangs past the top plate multiply that by 2 and that it's X Max. Higher end sub typically have a thick top plate and will have more usable X Max even with the same winding height there BL product is extended due to the thickness of the top plate.

The XFL sells for $199 at 1000w RMS and both can take a beating. Not much experience with aeroport enclosures other than the JBL 12 Basspro which is super tight in an open enclosure, a 32"-42" slotted port will blow it away. Skar recommends 21" which doesn't calculate wattage. I'll get back to you on my first build.

Now I’m really confused. Just went back and looked at their site again and found another xfl 1244 that is rated at 1500 watts but for $219. Two different xfl 1244’s? I understand prices fluctuate but why have 2 models with different specs. You’d think they would have changed one’s model number to avoid confusion

Xmax is helpful if you have some other things like bl curve, it's still a comparative point. I do think you could make a category showing displacement volume as some kind of dumbed down version, would be helpful - another way to differentiate subs.

But after seeing this and seeing the two going head to head... I may end up swapping over to that sub but in a 15 configuration instead.. And those audio pipe quad stacks are also hefty subs i got two of those in my ol ladies car and they get stupid loud

Hello brother and thank you once again for the great info time and effort, at 3000rms the 12 inch sub managed to achieve the same flex to your car as did the peerless by tymphany stw-350f at only 1000rms so it goes to show with the Wright subwoofer and box design you can achieve alot with less power, most youngsters here don't don't know the old timers had only 150 to 300rm (before the age of digital amps ) at best to play with so they had to be very creative and their cars back then was almost as loud, We need an update on the peerless by tymphany stw-350f with the new setup did you manage to reach its mechanical limits with the new setup? It doesn't matter. The American Bass XFL 12 is discontinued. You can't get them anymore.

After doing plenty of online research on the American Bass XFL 12” subs. Wal-Mart online, EBay, and the American Bass official website, I could not find one single XFL subwoofer that was 1,500 watts RMS. All of them had the American Bass XFL 1222 (2 ohm model) listed as 1,000 watts RMS, and the pictures of back of the sub said the same as well. Is it possible that the sub that you have is misprinted with the wrong watts? I don’t mean to bust your balls, I just find it really weird.

I like the fact the skar has the evil series and many more sizes then just 10 12 and 15.... but I still personally like the XFL much better but let's face it...they are both chinese subs that are cookie cutters subs that really part of an assembly line that really doesnt get too much QC

OMG. Are you serious? I don't know where to start. Cost per watt (per peak!) of all things is ridiculous. You can't put a price on how many watts a subwoofer consumes. How efficient the subwoofer uses those watts matters... and peak on top of that? A spreadsheet that compares the height, peak watts, weight(of sub not the magnet) and surface area of the cone? Height because "that means there is more of something". You don't even know what there is more of? The frame of the sub has wider spokes. They are stamped paper thin. The surface of a cone is not calculated by just the diameter of a cone the way you calculate a circle. It's 3 dimensional! That's like saying the surface area on the inside of a cylinder is measured by the diameter of the hole. How long is the cylinder? How deep is the cone? You said you don't care about the X-max but it's the mechanical throw that matters. X-max IS the mechanical throw. Hey, you tried. I'll give you that. Your specs are inaccurate. You don't even mention which XFL 12 you are comparing but I fact checked the specs and none are a match. C'mon man. This stuff is technical and you aren't intelligent enough at this point to be covering this type of material. I say at this point because you can take math classes and (sigh)... I don't know where to start. You can learn. I'll leave it at that. Just because I don't want you thinking I'm defending Skar. I'll say you may be right. The XFL may be a better sub. Idk. I haven't done a thorough comparison of the specs nor do I care. But this is not the way to do it. I subscribed.

I'm so co fused ..you make 2 videos about skar winning and being a better sub and winning the overall test so every one goes and gets it but a year later u switch up you're whole opinion..now for that u lost a sub from me !!!!
