I'd put in a pool with fish and use that water to drive aquaponics beds - the water in the pool would act as a heat sink and retain more thermal energy as well as provide fish

Good morning Eric, It’s currently -9 and it’s supposed to be a high today of +3 degrees. This is the coldest day we’ve Ever had here. My wife and I have been talking about the weird weather the world has been experiencing. It’s a fulfillment of Biblical prophecies. Good morning Doc. How is it a fulfillment specifically? What verses are you talking about in terms of prophecy? Satan does currently have dominion over the earth. God has given him the ability to control the weather in the past (Job). I am sure Satan has been creating havoc with the weather for some time and will continue to do so. I never asked you before. What kind of Doctor where you? What type of medicine did you practice?

Hay thanks. I had no idea. Got one, ill start using it, but to never leave alone. They some times get water in the regulator, causing liqued to reach the burner, flame to reach the Sealing and so on. When the regulator starts to frost up, turn it off. Put a hair dryer on the regulator to thaw it out. With the bottle valve open, regulator on position 1, Lean the whole contraption a little forward and hit the prime button to spit out the water in the system. this worked for me. Do it out side. Good luck.

Great video! We use the same heaters here in central Fl on nights the temps dip too low. We use 3/4 galvanized conduit and canopy fittings along with cattle fence atop for trellis. Wintertime we clamp plastic over them and put a heater underneath. We put it right over vining crops on the trellis and it works like a charm.

Thank you for this information, very useful. This is my first year with a make shift hoop house. I started several lemon trees from seed this summer and want to see if I can keep them alive over winter. Looks like a picked a bad winter as it will get down to zero tonight. Next year i hope to have a better version of a hoop house about 12 by 24 feet. I plan to put my compost pile, chickens and turkeys inside the hoop house with my lemon trees. At this time I don't plan to grow a crop all year long, just use it for citrus trees and starting seeds in the spring. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year! Keep growing.

I love these heaters. I have used them for years for different heating. Our winters in Indiana are too cold to be cost effective here just for a hobby. We have been there done that with other propane heaters. I am building a 8x12 greenhouse on the northeast corner inside a 24x40 cold frame. I plan to heat it with a small Chinese Diesel Heater. Thermostatic controlled forced air 12V. Cost per BTU is about 1/3 of propane so I have read. The heaters are about $150.

Glad it was helpful. We are just south of Tyler. Zone 8b, same as y'all. I would get the double heater. This single tank topper has worked for us for 6 years in our greenhouses but this time it was just too cold for too long. Also, the tanks iced up (for the first time ever) and slowed the burn. By the time I was able to wrap some blankets around them, it had gotten too cold and froze everything. I lost every summer veggie in the greenhouse. I'll probably do a follow-up vid to this talking about what went wrong.

Another option are light bulbs. the 100% clear light bulbs put out heat, can be spread out and smaller bulbs don't use a lot of electricity.

The Mr. Heater buddy is a better option. Even the Mr Heater Blue flame Heater puts out more BTU's and is even safer. Please use caution always when using any propane heaters in enclosed structures. Especially tents

Eric, Merry Chistmas to you and your family. I live couple of hours south of you and left 2 1200watt heaters inside the greenhouse controlled by GE Cync smart plugs and couple of Govee smart thermometers. I hope is enough to keep Greenhouse above freezing as my wife and I are spending Christmas in Miami with family ( in shorts 😆) if you could make a video on how your greenhouse handled the 10 degrees cold what the temperature was inside. I am going to look into recirculating warm water for my greenhouse, propane ran out at 15 degrees other night and lost tender plants, cabbage family was ok. Looking at simple black polly hose up near roof, solar pump, cacading black drums, etc. cheers.

Wow, it gets cold down there in Texas! I thought cold winters were extremely rare because of being sub-tropical. Up here in southern Ontario, it hit over 32 Fahrenheit today. Anyway, those propane heaters are great. They don't need electricity and are fairly safe. Other than something blowing up to the burner or metal cage around the burner and catching fire, the biggest annoyance is how sensitive they are. The safety shuts those off at the slightest disturbance against the burner or tank. The big plus as well is that the products of combustion are water vapour and carbon dioxide which if I recall correctly are food for plants. :)

We use indoor propane heaters, they are safe, cutoff oxygen senor, tip over sensor, our last 5 to 5.5 hrs on low with one lb cylinder

I have the same style heater that goes on a propane tank though it is a different brand name. I have only been able to get about 20 hours of burn time out of the low setting. Perhaps it is the difference in mine being an older unit and yours being a newer one. If so, it's probably worth updating. And in this really cold weather we're having right now, on the low setting, it maintains my 20 x 50 greenhouse at about 40°F.

Maybe you are using the propane tanks from the exchanges, they sometimes only fill the tanks to 15lbs, not 20lb

Thank you for this. I am having a greenhouse built and it will be completed soon. Right now, I am having issues figuring out the best way to get power and heat to the greenhouse. I want to automate it as much as possible since my work schedule would not have me home to turn on a heater when the sun goes down. My plan originally was to do solar power, but I have been told it would cost me an arm and leg to set it up. I still plan on getting solar for lights and fans, but not for heat. Do you have any suggestions for automating the heat at a reasonable price?

I have some advice for People who want it. Wrap your tank in several layers of blankets as well, because here at my place it got Cold enough for my tank not to work properly. It wouldn't let the propane come out. Once I covered the tank with three layers of moving blankets now my tank is working properly again. My tank said it was empty, before I covered the tank. Try it yourself, it does make a difference 😉 I have a 30 pound tank, and have it on the lowest setting on my Cooking stove day and night and so far it has lasted me almost one month. I also use it to boil my coffee water or my ramen soup.

Yeah, the propane has to absorb and suck away heat from it's surroundings in order to go from a liquid to a gas. That's why you can get frostburn/frostbite in the middle of summer if propane leaks and expands. Kind of like when you use a pressurized gas canister for blowing air at your computer keyboard to blow the dust away. The canister starts to get really cold, and you have to wait or else the liquid starts spurting out. I tried soldering with propane from a 5-pound tank in minus 20 Celsius once and the propane started coming out of my torch like snot after a while. Maybe it was the mercaptan that they add to it so that we can smell a leak, because i don't think propane is supposed to look like jelly at cold temperatures.

I just had to go do this. The small bbq tank froze. I wrapped my 100lb tank with two blankets. Hopefully that is enough. Thank you for the tip, I have never had to do that before.

Air circulation is nearly as important in heating enclosed spaces as the heat source itself. Get some Oscillating fans going.

The 2 largest exhausts from burning propane are water and CO2, both of which are BENEFICIAL to your plants. So, that's why you've never seen any harm from your method.

I'm gonna look into this.. I have a cold greenhouse (12x24) min 42f and have electric heaters set to come on at 42deg far. Presently my electric heaters total 3.2KW on the low (normal) setting. During this recent 10 deg F dip in Raleigh NC i used my kerosene heater to help out. But kerosene is a pain...

These are very easy to use for sure. Only issue is that the tanks will freeze up if it gets too cold.

I considered electric over propane being less expensive and more convenient. And gas as a backup. We have 24m2 or 260sqft GH, we use 1,2kw electric heater on smart socket. The GH is inflated and bublewpapped inside w air gap. We set digital thermostat to 4°C. It is capable to -10°C. And uses upto 10kwh per day, 5kwh on average, it ran 120 days and used 600kwh in a year netting to 105$ or 100€. We would have used 150 galons of propane netting 200$ for same effect, acounting ther is no thermostat regulation. Electric can be economic, as is automatic and precise, doesnt waste heating over desired teperature.

I just wnted to share ideas😇.We layed 50 meters of 2,5mm2 ~ 14avg 240v cable in alacten touhg 3/4“ pipe, with single blade tractor plug. For 150€ it is invaluable now, as it serves many years already for automation, vatering, seedling lights, and ventilation as well, to lover the maintenance a bit.

THAT is a loaded question lol! The short answer is... read the manufacturer's recommendations. Back in the day (said the old guy) my grandparents used one in their basement and garage all the time. Of course back then a 'car seat' was your parent's arm holding you back when they hit the brakes! So just because they did it back then... The by-product of proper propane combustion is water vapor, but even in a garage I would have a CO detector handy. The main risk of using this type heater indoors is the tank. There is a reason why propane heaters/stoves, etc have the tanks outside the structure. Propane vapor is heavier than air and will pool in low spots, creating an explosion and/or asphyxiation risk. In an emergency, and if I had no other options, I personally would use it in my house sparingly and always supervised. My garage or shop is a different story - still would use a CO detector and never leave it unattended.

You have to be careful when using this kind of heater. People use them in ice fishing shacks to keep warm, but if there's not enough ventilation you can die from carbon monoxide. Mr Heater Buddy heaters are made alot safer to use inside

Small amounts only at night. The greenhouse is nowhere near airtight so there is plenty of oxygen available. You cannot suffocate them unless you are inside of a locked airtight room.

I bought a 20x36’ growers solution high tunnel … I’m about an hour to the north east of college station … … I need to get the exhaust fans and inside fans for my high tunnel to cool it and to know what to heat it with … wondering how close to u that I am and if your recommendations would be good for me here… I would like to get all solar fans for it and wonder if just the solar fans that work during the day are good enough… I have one roll up door and am thinking about ordering another one

You are just a few hours South of us. I don't have any fans set up as of yet because I do not have power run to the greenhouse. I am not aware of any solar fans that are big enough and powerful enough to move the amount of air needed to cool it off. We have the roll up sides always open along with the doors open.

My sides are the 7 ft roll up sides… they do have solar damper openers… sorry .. I worked at a power plant and that’s what we called them

I would invest in a carbon monoxide detector! Then I'd know for sure what the interior status is at all times. And only then would I open the doors and let out any heat...IF NEEDED! I might also get a metal drum and fill it with water and aim the heater at it. That would give me a heat source to slowly reradiate the heat back into the area after I shut down the heater. This is a very good and timely video as Old Man Winter is just starting to show off his stuff.

Warning: I bought the Mr. Heater MH15 off of Amazon after watching this video and the MH15 will not fit a 5 gallon tank. The MH15 is for the small green Coleman tanks that you take camping. You are demonstrating, and your link goes to the MH30. The price for the MH15 is 50 bucks, the price for what you have, the MH30 is $100. You just cost me 50 bucks with those two mistakes.

Or did you look at the model characteristics/number and notice that the MH15T is the single large tank topper and the MH15 is the small green tank topper. Two totally different models. Mine cost me roughly $50 when I bought it and you can find it for $65 now (inflation). The MH30 it the dual head unit. Amazon sellers modify their listings all the time and the links change.

@@CountryLivingExperience The model that you are using is the MH30, it's not the double head unit. The MH30 that you have fits a large tank and has the extended cage around the back. The MH15 doesn't even thread onto a larger tank and only has a small cage on the front of the burner

Can this heater be used inside house or garage? My son used it to thaw out heater in attic. It was a water pump heater.

Look into an indoor kerosene heater. These work great. Just one of these radiate more heat than 2 1500 electric space heaters. These are much safer. I would still use a carbon monoxide detector. It's good to have one anyway. You'll know if there is too much carbon monoxide because everyone will start developing a strong headache as a symptom.
