I don’t know how people with a broken ankle can possibly get around without this knee walker. Best invention ever. I’m not coordinated enough for crutches and hopping on one foot with a walker, not me. Trust me it’s worth the small investment. I did also purchase a sheepskin cover which certainly helps the leg pain from kneeling

Thank you, I had ankle surgery a week ago and have been using my knee scooter but didn't realize that my leg needed go be at a 90 degree angle. I guess that is why my upper leg has a little pain because it was bent instead of at 90 degrees. I bought all the options for it, dual brakes, larger hand grips, a basket, a sheep skin seat cover and the most important one of all a Starbucks cup holder.

I used the knee scooter while still wearing a cast and it was so uncomfortable as the cast dug into my knee which was painful. I put bubble wrap under my knee to help cushion the pressure.

I would highly recommend the Iwalk over the knee scooter. I have had a foot and ankle fractures. With the foot I used the knee scooter but I discovered the Iwalk after my ankle fracture. It was a game changer. I could walk nearly anywhere and most importantly climb stairs.

I had mtp fusion and claw toes repair 3 weeks ago and used a knee scooter( still am). It was a huge improvement over crutches but it is hard on the affected knee, which is very achy now. I try to limit the scooter and use crutches as well. There is no easy way to recover, just time and following your MD’s instructions.

How do you ride one of these if you have bad knees and you can't put pressure on your knee cap directly? I have MCL/ACL/PCL micro tears and I can't even put my full weight on my leg without serious pain. I had hoped the knee scooter would get me more mobile, but I can't see this being any better than crutches

I almost tried it but, I couldn’t get the splint cast up on it back in March 2012. I stuck to a wheelchair and a walker during that time.

I’ve had bunion surgery and during recovery, I had to elevate my feet for the first 14 days. I was given weight bearing shoes that I wear to get around with. At six weeks post op my bones had fused nicely together and I could weight bear again. I’m in a bunion surgery FB group and the number of people who fall off these is astonishing. They invariably bash their operated foot and this elongates their recovery. When you use one of these contraptions your foot is 100% in the wrong position for healing. Don’t be in such a rush to be mobile.

I had foot surgery a little over a year ago and I used one of these for less then 24 hours and had to return it, my upper thigh felt like the dr beat the hell outta my thigh...what scares me is December 9th I go in for surgery on the other foot and will be in a hard cast for 2 weeks then another cast for 3-6 weeks, he recommends one of these again to get around, am scared crapless to even think about using this again after the intense PAIN I had the last time...if you could please give me any tips on what I could've done wrong and what I can do to be able to use this again and not feel like my upper thigh is gonna be ripped apart, also any tips on how to go UP and DOWN stairs would be helpful as I live up on 3rd floor with NO elevator...also have no family to help out, no friends either so I'd have to do this on my own...thanks

If you have a regular walker, you could use that. Just leave it at the top of the stairs, also, bring a chair out to the top of the stairs. Sit in the chair then lower yourself to the ground and scoot down the stairs on your bottom. Keep the knee scooter at the bottom of the stairs and maybe secure it with a lock and chain if you live near people. I don't know how practical my advice is but it's just an idea. I hope you can come up with a good solution. Sorry you don't have any friends or family to help you out.

Obviously you cannot use a scooter except on level surfaces. Crutches on stairs if u have to: behind you to go up, in front of you to go down. I bummed up and down stairs, and crawled on my hands and knees as necessary. If I needed to carry something, it went in a shoulder bag.

How did you get around? Your post was from 3 years ago but it sounds like a sit down motorized scooter or wheelchair would have been best in your situation. I'm waiting on a scooter because my muscles burn out so quickly using just a walker. Just looking for any feedback or tips for me to get around. This sucks!
