Given this is a few years old now, a point not covered on these latest crop of 2020 & 2021 vehicles is the various forms of “AI” “Driver Assist” technologies, like lane keeping and auto braking etc. The latest owners manuals specifically state that changing suspension, rims and tyres can compromise the pre-programmed software for these technology’s and that you should stick with the OEM supplied suspension, rims & tyres for this reason. As far as I know I’ve not seen any 4WD suspension specialists & Offroad Tyre & Wheels shops offering to “re-flash / re-calibrate” the on board ECM / Computer to compensate for suspension & body lifts, or different size width and offset rims or even larger rolling circumference tyres? Nothings as easy as what it once was, with all these new technologies unfortunately.

The cost difference between 33's 35's and 40's here in Canada is 50 bucks per step. You can get a set of 35 inch in just about every tire shop in the country. The farther out of the big cities the more big tires you'll find the shops have in stock. As for overworking the engines( yes I know your running diesel power) do you guys know to regear your diff's to correct for larger tires. My 2016 Tacoma came with 265/65R17( 30.6") tires and 4.30 gears. Move to 35" and in goes the two lockers and news 4.88 gears. My ratios are now back to factory specs. The speedometer and odometer measure correctly as well. 140 Km/h and it's only off by 1.2 Km/h. Which is closer than with the factory 4.3 gears.

A ring and pinion for front and rear will run you about $320 to $410(CDN) for each axle. You will need an install kit for each axle. If you got a new truck, a Minor install kit is all you need( $110-$135Cdn) if your truck is a couple years old get a master install kit($380-450cdn) and replace all the bearings and races well you have the diff open. If you use a minor install kit on an older axle, you'll just have to open it "AGAIN" in a couple years to do the bearings and races. You will want to have the gears( this is a great time to get the locker install well you have the diff open) installed at a quality shop. I am not going to say the guy down the street can't do it in the Garage, but if he's not going to warranty the work for a few years, find a shop. A good shop will cost you a few dollars, but they will also give you a warranty on the work. There is pretty high quality control, and the manufacture knows it is going to get abused, they plan and design for that, but defects can happen. That is what the warranty is for. A good shop will just replace it, and then deal with the Manufacture to have them replace the defective one. You don't have to put out all the money at one time. 1) buy a gear set( Ring and pinion) 2) buy the second one if you only bought the one 3) buy an install kit 4) buy a second one if you only bought the one. Optional 1) buy REAR locker( if you can only afford one it should be in the rear), 2) buy front locker. Hope this helps. You should also use an on-line calculator to find the "CORRECT" ratio you need with the larger tires, don't just "guess" or go with what ever one else used. My Tacoma and the Wife's 4runner both came with 265/65R17 tires, but the stock gears are different ratios because one is an Auto, and the other is a Manual. This should give you a start. www.offroaders.com/info/tech-corner/reading/calculators.htm

Personally I think 33 inch tires are the ideal size for a 4 wheel drive vehicle that’s going to be driven on and off road. But then it just depends, if you are looking to see what’s the biggest rock you can climb with your 4x4 there will no tire big enough and no higher lift that can fit in you truck. The sky is the limit. At the end of the day is your truck your money do whatever you like with it.

Hi Gamer girl, Most states allow tyre diameter increase of up to 50mm over original tyres for proper 4WD vehicles, sometimes with a limit on suspension lift coming into this equation also. With your standard DMax tyres likely to have an overall diameter of ~760mm, the 33” (or 825mm) overall diameter size tyres are not likely to be an option for this particular vehicle. Please consult your state transport department for further information on this. Thanks, Bridgestone Australia

Put 33s on a MY21 Dmax in Victoria you are unroadworthy. Biggest legal tyre on my MY18 Dmax in Victoria is 255/70R16. The biggest hurdle is the ESC system. Can't go bigger tyre without Isuzu saying your ESC system will not be effected. Other alternative is to get Engineering tested then certifed approval of your ESC system still operating correctly if going bigger than biggest diameter in the Dmax range.

Your comments on tires are slightly offset because you're running little 4 cylinder Diesel's tire size is an important factor the bigger you go the more grunt you need to turn them when you're driving a 4.5 V8 Diesel and you have 650 Newton metres of torque driving 35 that perfect for the car they give better fuel economy and better traction the skinnier tires just don't grip enough for the talk you need to have big wide tyres 305 /35's are a perfect tyer for my V8 LandCruiser instead of Spinning wheels everywhere I can put the power to the ground so tyer size should be matched to your power and talk when you start blanketing every car under the same umbrella then you're talking crap
