Prosecutor John Meadors delivers rebuttal to Alex Murdaugh defense

Alex Murdaugh's defense team got its final chance to make their case that their client could not have committed the heinous murders of his wife and adult son.
Before that happened, however, a juror was removed from the trial. According to Judge Clifton Newman, the juror had been making comments to a few people in the public about the case, and that conversation was recorded. The juror was confronted about the recording and Newman announced the juror would no longer be on the case.
The defense made their closing arguments a day after the prosecution had its turn trying to convince the jury that Murdaugh was the sole person responsible for the killings. Prosecutor Creighton Waters spent a total of three hours saying Murdaugh was a habitual liar who didn't tell the truth in his legal practice or when it mattered the most--the night of the murders. Waters reiterated that Murdaugh had been caught lying about when he last saw his wife and son alive, and Waters added he only came clean when he knew he'd be caught.
Defense attorney Jim Griffin, who's known Murdaugh for many years, spoke to jurors on the defendant's behalf.
Prosecutors are now giving a short rebuttal. After that's done, then the judge will charge the jury. At that point, Murdaugh's fate will be in their hands as they begin deliberations.
Murdaugh, 54, is accused of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul at the family's Moselle estate back in June of 2021. Prosecutors say he's the sole person responsible while the defense says the state never seriously looked for any other potential witnesses. #Murdaugh #AlexMurdaugh

Masterclass in murder trial lawyering... HE is the reason there wasn't a hung jury and HE is the reason the jury came back so very quickly with their guilty on all counts verdict. That and the fact that the defense attorney who gave the defense summary was absolutely AWFUL. John Meadors is a superstar.

It's one thing to provide a good defense, but I, along with many others, just cannot understand why a State Senator would say it is a privelege and honor to defend a known sociopathic lying thief, and if Poots keeps that up... many are looking into whether AM's stolen funds helped his journey to that Senate, as well as that of other politicians.
@ozzybloke-craig3690
@ozzybloke-craig3690 Жыл бұрын
That is a matter of opinion, not fact, it is liklely without him it still would have been guilty verdict. Juror that spoke said they knew he was guilty. Said nothing about this closing being the reason for that. So, I disagree. Maybe try not speak your opinion as fact. That just makes you look stupid.

AM showed the same disregard & disconnect towards Buster in his (recorded) jailhouse conversations w/him when he asked his son why he sounded down-in-the-dumps as if just losing his mother & brother to murder & his father being charged w/the crime wouldn't negatively affect him, let alone require an explanation as if there was something wrong w/the way he was feeling. It was so insensitive. Buster sounded completely taken aback by the question just like when he confronted his dad over stealing monies which he'd just found out about. Buster sounded completely blindsided & disappointed to learn about what his dad had done & his dad just blew it off. I think these boys must have been raised in a dysfunctional family if they'd assigned their youngest son be their "little detective" in charge of weeding out daddy's opioids on a regular basis. Even when Maggie found a stash of pills in her husband's bag, she didn't confront him directly but called Paul instead. It's unfair & too big a burden for parents to place their children into those types of adult situations.

And this judge is a true gentleman. I got to say, of all the cases I've watched over time, this one was by far one of the most captivating. If the jury doesn't come back with a Guilty, then I will be beyond flummoxed. Oh yeah, and wasn't there testimony that Alex called his wife and insisted she come to the kennels? Didn't her friend testify that Maggie told here she didn't want to go the kennels, but Alex was damn near demanding that she did? If that's the case, then Murder 1 is what he's allegedly guilty of. What were the odds Alex insisted she go to the kennels, and that same day she and their youngest son are murdered there? I don't know y'all. This ain't looking good for Alex M....nope...sure ain't.

His initial denials that he was at the scene, and then his admitting he lied is just one of the big and many red flags that point to his guilt. There does not appear to have been any display of anger from him towards the person/people who brutally murdered his wife and son, or for the murderers to be found. That would be a natural reaction if he hadnt done it.

I love how Meadors, aka Matlock in my mind, reminded the jury that Alex asked Maggie to be there and that Paul wasn't supposed to be there. Also, the failure to call Buster immediately but call everybody else. Who would be after Rogan? there was more, but that man is guilty as sin.

I think his rebuttal was the icing on the cake. It's going to be a difficult case to find "without a reasonable doubt," but if they use their common sense and go through all the evidence, timelines, and testimonies, they will get the right answer. It's quite obvious to me anyway.

During this rebuttal, you can actually see the moment Alex begins to realize he's sunk. He begins biting his lip with wide eyes while listening intently, and keeps trying to gauge the jurors' reactions from this prosecutors argument. This prosecutor just sealed the deal. If it wasn't for this rebuttal, I believe it would've been a hung jury. He answered everything I wanted to know.

JOHN MEADERS... From out of nowhere...the man who sat in the 1st chair on the right end of the Prosecution's table ..stood in front of the jury and BRILLIANTLY told the story of what happened on the night that Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were murdered... Common Sense is what he told the Jury... Use your Common Sense... In a matter of minutes, blew the whole thing out of the water...He made us feel it...he made us hear it...he made us see it... he made a bell ring with every word he said...He proved to us that the circumstantial evidence showed without a reasonable doubt...that ALEX Murdaugh was guilty of murdering his Wife and Son. I told a friend that I didn't think it would take more than a couple of hours for the Jury to deliberate...but I did not think they would bring in a Guilty Verdict. This man was absolutely Genius in winning this case for the victims... I used the word BRILLIANT to describe ALEX under the Prosecution's cross earlier this week...and he was... But ... John Meaders...You are the voice who spoke the words of a man who goes above and beyond being Brilliant... Thank You

It wasn't that I ever thought him to be innocent...but that I did not think that the Prosecution was proving him guilty... I thought AM was Brilliant on cross... It was only on closing arguments and of course, the Rebuttal, which was absolutely outstanding...they gave the jury, " Permission, " to take the evidence they had and look at it in a Common Sense approach... But...I still have a problem with the time line... Even though, I think he is guilty...
