Thanks! It is great you got that done. I have heard they now recommend starting colonoscopies at 45, rather than 50. Sadly the illnesses of old age are becoming the illnesses of middle age. And glad you had good results! 👍👍

@@parristx yep...my doctor said more people around 45, and not 50, are getting it nowadays and after that actor, Chadwick Boseman, died from cancer so young, they changed the recommended age to get checked. Please keep us up to date.

It is good they are working hard to catch it, but it would better if we would prevent it.

Thanks Reuben- and good luck in your testing. By default the usual reaction to all this is to be depressed- and I think everyone is for a while. But longer term it is really a decision you have to make about your outlook on life. I think having a positive outlook makes it easier for me and the people around me who have to put up with me. Lord knows I can be difficult enough on a good day!

I thought I replied before... Thank you. Yes, we need positivity to combat stress & negativity but I find it a daily struggle. Now, 27 hrs to go to find out biopsy results so anxiety is kicking in. 🙏 Can u recommend any books, articles that helped u in ur journey?

Thanks! Good luck with your biopsy and hope you get good results. It is frustrating the amount of time from when some test result first starts you worrying about cancer to when they can give you a definite diagnosis and start doing some actual treatment.

Thanks! And I don't think there is much difference in the number of radiation treatments whether you have the prostate removed surgically first or not. When I was talking with the doctors at the cancer center in Houston they said after surgery I would likely need 40 sessions of radiation over 8 weeks. Without having my prostate removed I am having 44 sessions of radiation over 9 weeks.

I would say it worked in knocking my PSA down to undetectable. Did it work "long term"? Only time will tell. I just finished my third (and final) year on Lupron and am currently receiving no treatment- just going in every 3 months for blood work and watching the numbers.

No, mine was done with a trans rectal ultrasound.

Yes, it is very common that the doctor will want to do a prostate biopsy.

Yes, I will have been on Lupron for two years in October. I have one more year to go.

That's always a relevant topic! 😁 And in consideration of side effects and quality of life after treatment I definitely factored that in. It was part of my decision to not have surgery- though my first instinct after the diagnosis was "Cut it out!" Even so, sexual function gets put into a bit of a "holding pattern" being on Lupron (which knocks my testosterone down to "castrate" level). But the expectation is that when testosterone returns after treatment (three years long in my case ☹☹) the takeoffs and landings will resume as well. Though doctors strongly recommend touch-and-go runway practice in the meantime to maintain your instrument rating. 😳🤣

@@parristx I understand, I’m not in a situation for treatment or removal for this and hope I never am. I was just think about the depression that could happen with this. Hope you get back at it 100%

Each specialist thinks their treatment is the best. But I didn't get too much pushback when I changed my mind about the surgery.
