I am writing to express our deep frustration and disappointment after an unsettling experience at Fall Creek last weekend. As an ardent outdoors enthusiast, we cherish our beautiful natural surroundings and are committed to their preservation. However, the carelessness we witnessed was disheartening.
While exploring Fall Creek, we noticed an unattended fire on the opposite side of the creek. Understanding the severe risks associated with unattended fires, we promptly crossed the creek and went to every single camping spot trying to find the unattended fire and extinguished it. It's alarming to think about the potential devastation this neglect could have caused. Wildfires are a grave threat to our land, wildlife, and communities. Remember, only YOU can prevent wildfires.
To those responsible: shame on you for such reckless behavior. If you have the privilege of enjoying our natural spaces, it is your responsibility to ensure your fire is completely extinguished before you leave. This negligence is unacceptable and puts us all at risk.
Furthermore, during our time at another campsite, we took the initiative to pick up the trash left behind by previous visitors. It’s disheartening to see the lack of respect some people have for our environment. The principle of "pack it in, pack it out" is crucial. If you bring items into nature, take them back out with you. Leaving trash not only tarnishes the beauty of our landscapes but also harms wildlife and pollutes ecosystems.
If you are unwilling to adhere to these basic principles of outdoor ethics, then simply do not come. Our natural spaces deserve respect and care from everyone who visits.
We urge all visitors to take responsibility for their actions and surroundings. Let’s all commit to leaving no trace, properly extinguishing fires, and packing out what we pack in. Together, we can ensure that our cherished outdoor spaces remain pristine and safe for future generations.
Sincerely, Conor & Julieta
