what a hypocrite, China, USA, UK, and rest of rich nation also do the deforestation in the past when they are into the rich. When Indonesia want into the rich, they suddenly ask to stop what Indonesia doing, those rain forest didn't provide us MONEY. If rest of the world want us to keep the rainforest intact, they should give us $ 350 Billion every year, after all it's a very cheap price consider that those rain forest is very important for the world.

Palm oil is a wonder product, but the way we produce it is not sustainable. While we should not abolish this industry, we also should not let it take it's toll on valuable life, like this deforestation. There many other sustainable ways of producing it.

Nice story, nice drawings... but you cannot create a campaign by presenting a problem without giving any solutions (or in this case, alternatives). Other products will have to be used to replace palm oil, and when you do not provide any information on these products and their impact on deforestation... the campaign is useless.

Has it ever occured to these hippies why we use palm oil? Not only is it the most economical way of producing large amounts of consumable oil but pound for pound produces more oil than any other plant. What would we replace it with? and surely the replacements would use more land to get the same amount of oil?

+Jin Hyunyang It's when palm oil is properly monitored and follows the rules of environmental standards. They must be fair trade and have a certificate from environmental protection agencies, ot often helps people as many palm oil providers are local 45 percent I think it was are local and gets workers families out of poverty. The oil comes from the fruit of palm trees , they don't need to be burnt and cut down for the oil, with the consumers support palm farming doesn't have to stretch over more land and trees don't have to get destroyed in harvest and the yield is better with proper farming methods. The video should of mentioned this but they didn't think people need the details which they do =p

So now that they've cleared enough land to sustain their palm oil productivity we can stop deforestation. How about restoring some of the forests and using less palm oil? Are the products we use really a need as far as our nutrition or as a biofuel? How about fixing Indonesia's forest governance before we decide that this is sustainable palm oil. How about we take a look at Indonesia's REDD+ program and how it focuses only on one aspect being mainly carbon stocks and allows other "low" carbon forests to be cleared. Anybody notice that their moratorium on deforestation of peat lands focused on lands that were already protected from palm oil? What is your definition of sustainable palm oil Greenpeace?

I bet most people commenting here never own a palm oil plantation, or work in one or at least visited it before...let me say a palm oil plantation is just another form of jungle...only there's no tree, just palm oil trees, so vast that you could get lost in them....and yes there is wildlife there...wild boars, tigers, snakes, owls, mice feeding the palm oil fruit, etc...nature adapts...unlike other types like soy or corn where with each harvest you destroy the land with ploughing and tilling and whatever farmers do...do you see any wild ecosytem in corn or soy farm similar to that of a palm oil plantation? So yeah, palm oil plantation provide a living for the people and still provide an ecosystem to wildlife...not as best a a virgin jungle but at least it's a win-win solution....
@MrArthoz
@MrArthoz 7 жыл бұрын
What about snakes, owls, tigers, reptiles, mice, wild fowls? What about those chickens, cows and goats? Domesticated animals are not part of the environment? Not part of the biodiversity? Do not speak of something you do not see. Biodiversity exist. If not, give a real proof or else you are just lying. Please read my comment in detail. I wrote: not as best as a virgin jungle but at least it is a win-win solution. By the way....saying extinct is not the right term at all....and mammals are not the only thing that make up the circle of nature. Biodiversity in some way exist but will forever be changed. If you are in the opinion that palm oil is bad then what is your solution? What other options can you offer? Soy? Corn? Rape Seed? All other options not only destroy the topsoil causing desertification but also provide NONE whatsoever environment for ANY lifeforms. Bugs dead from constant spray of insecticide and even mice would be annihilated come the ploughing stage. So why not also hate the rice plantation? Soya plantation? Wheat plantation? Sugar cane plantation that is the source of sugar in your tea? Do you know they set the whole sugarcane plant on fire before harvesting? Any mammal could survive that? Even bacteria would go extinct. Aren't we all the hypocrite here....we like and hate as we please, pick and choose whatever is convenient for our hypocrite minds. How blind people are to the reality of life.....so be honest....don't just hate palm oil....hate soy, hate corn, hate rice, hate bread, hate sugar....be honest and truthful at least to yourself. Or else you faith is nothing but false.... Everyday we swallow the things that cause destruction to nature....yet we ignore it because it is inconvenient.... Meanwhile we in the industry tries our best to at least preserve nature. The empty fruit bunch are now being used as grow medium for volvariella mushroom and a researcher friend of mine had developed a processing method that could turn the palm oil tree trunk into hardwood timber....thus further reducing the demand for further logging and deforestation. Each makes the farmer richer...if palm trunk makes good timber it will be in our interest to curb logging so that the industry will buy palm trunk timber exclusively....to curb the use of wood dust so the mushroom industry will use more empty fruit bunch for grow medium....same goes with latex tree timber....best for use in europe since it is perfect for freezing environment.....best for growing mushrooms. I guess now you know where all those delicious mushrooms comes from right? Go to the furniture stores and look up furniture made from palm trunk timber or latex timber....and look to your own homes and see what forest have been destroyed for all those timber. You yourself creates the market demand that destroys nature. What's done is done, the plantation is there and a source of livelihood to millions of people directly or indirectly. Best way is harmonize the plantation with nature. You can hate whatever you want....but if you don't contribute anything to preserve nature except making noise with the rest of the ignorant mob....then you have no right whatsoever to be on the side of nature itself. You yourself are among the parasites sucking the life force of mother earth.
@MrArthoz
@MrArthoz 7 жыл бұрын
Just as addendum....I not only live but also worked actively in plantation industry though now starting my own orchard and vegetable farm. While you stay safe at home, you could not imagine the terror or wonder we have experienced coming across the creatures hidden among the trees. They exist, you just need to open your eyes....don't just wait for them to conveniently parade in front of your house. Though there is one funny event where my mother once exclaimed: there's a kancil (mousedeer) in front of the house. I just ignored her....my "Kancil" car was parked in front. Later she explained....it's a real kancil who had walked next to my kancil car... So I guess you better start looking and explore nature....don't waste your time just watching youtube video.

I dont support any other oil like corn oil, yes i agree palm plantation is far better than any other crop, but in my opinion malaysia and indonesia must limit the expansion of palm plantations, leave around 50% of land area to rainforest, i think there is no problem in Sarawak, but in Sabah and especially in Peninsular rainforest is shrinking dramatically in the last 2 decades. In peninsular less than 25% of land remain as forest.
@MrArthoz
@MrArthoz 7 жыл бұрын
Yes there are tigers, it's pointless to argue....go to your local ranger office for complete report. By the way you said mammal extinct yet you acknowledge biodiversity exist. Why can't I talk about snakes, wild boar or monkeys and more? Do you not acknowledge they are part of the diversity? Even cows, goats and chicken too....where the manure use as fertilizer reducing environmental impact....all natural material....yay, we helped nature!!! Elephants are rarely killed, most sent to preservation. Heck, now and then there are people dead killed by python and cobras or stomped by elephants, you crazy to leave elephant herd near plantation? They eat the immature palm shoot and other stuff there. Like I said not perfect but still win-win....a lot was even funded by the palm oil industry too. Now you bring up plants. Yes there are other plants. Have you worked cutting the grass in palm oil plantation? I have...actually just cutting the pathways....impossible to clear everything. My cousin worked piloting small plane to spread fertilizer in palm oil plantation....so huge it must be done by air....while on the ground we just go in to pick fruits and leave. The undergrowth, the fungi, the lichen....then the plants and animals near the water edge of the canals. Some people like me even added rare plants like rattan, herbs, tongkat ali and gaharu....hopefully it'll be useful for my pension fund once the gaharu are big enough to be harvested. I do my bit, what about you? I preserved rare plants and also make money too....what better way to save nature? You know....the way you state things makes me wonder....do you live in a palm oil plantation at all? It's like you are clueless of what people are doing there. Like you don't even know what a palm oil plantation really looks like on the inside. Like I said....you have a solution? We formulate and worked to make a better future. The development from researchers like us have indirectly preserve the rainforest....did you read some of the works we had done in the field of glulam (glue laminated timber)? In the future we will also introduce a type of timber bamboo for glulam. Right now pilot farm in cameron highlands to cultivate them was not successful....but we will not give up....in our service to preserve nature. Look up the info on glulam.....Malaysia is moving towards high rise building made 100% of structural glulam. Soon we don't need to cut logs in the rainforest. Bamboo grows so fast within a year or two and with glulam method not timber could provide a better structure. The first flats made 100% of glulam had been done in sweden and australia....Malaysia would soon have one....the first of many more. We are working to save the rainforest. Search "Glulam Surau" on youtube, a design work promoted by JKR to build a structure from glulam....someday you might even pray in one. You are angry and condemn and blame others....like I said....I do my bit....what about you? Act, don't just talk.

Not extinct in malaysia (yet) but in the area you planted palm! Can you give me figures how many plant species, mammals, animals exist in rainforest and in palm plantation? You want to say the number are exactly the same? Ofcourse not, rainforest is still far better. Yes, i dont do much, just raise concern to people about rainforest, other than that, nothing, nothing means i did nothing to destroy the forest. it is far better than what you did which is trying to fix it after you broke it but it never be the same anymore.
