LuLu is a free firewall for macOS. It monitors your Mac's network connections and warns you when an application is trying to send data out from your computer.
The built-in Firewall application for Mac only allows you to block incoming network connections; it doesn’t allow you to control outgoing connections. However, there are several paid software that let you monitor and control outgoing connections.
Luckily, LuLu is a completely free firewall application. Setting it up and using it is fairly straightforward. However, you need to be patient if you are new to these kinds of software; it takes time to feel comfortable using them. In this step-by-step tutorial, I will show you how to install and set up LuLu on your Mac.
My current operating system is Ventura version 13.1. I have also used LuLu on macOS Big Sur and Monterey and had no problems with it.

By enabling your macOS built-in firewall and installing LuLu, you can monitor incoming and outgoing connections.

Hello Giuditta, As you already know, the LuLu app prevents outgoing connections. If you want to make your Mac more secure, you can also use the macOS built-in firewall to block incoming connections. My old iMac has successfully used LuLu for years but it's no longer compatible with Lulu's newer versions & I can't find older versions to install! What are my alternatives? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

The most recent version available is 2.4.3, while an older version, 1.2.3, is also present. Are you in search of the older version, 1.2.3?

@@lucid-tutorials I got the older version 1.2.3 today when I disconnected from my VPN, but when I double clicked on it the only options it gives me is to either UNINSTALL or UPGRADE! Neither are good solutions. Trouble is, While It's clear my older version is no longer blocking outgoing connections. I can't even find the Lulu that's already installed! Guess I'm doomed to have to find something else. I really did love Lulu! Thanks anyway for getting back to so quickly.

@@halfpiint If you upgrade to Catalina, you can use the latest version of LuLu. However, I recommend upgrading to the Big Sur or Monterey If you prefer not to upgrade to a higher macOS version, I can suggest an alternative solution. You can purchase Radio Silence for only $9. Here's the link: radiosilenceapp.com/download. Please note that Version 2.3 is compatible with macOS 10.10 - 10.14.

Running Catalina 10.15.7. I never get the message that Lulu is trying to filter network content. (step 4 in their graphic instructions.) Cannot get Lulu to install & run. Any suggestions?

First, uninstall LuLu or any previous version, then get the latest version and install it. The newest version is 2.5.1. To uninstall LuLu, select 'Uninstall LuLu' from the menu bar: ...and authenticate to fully remove the application and all its components:

Another solution is to upgrade your OS to Big Sur or Monterey.

How do I know if LuLu is stealing data or not? Can Lulu block itself?

Hi bk maker, LuLu is open-source software. As far as I know, it is safe to install it, and it is possible to ask LuLu to block itself. However, no security software is 100% secure. You can search for more info about LuLu on the net before deciding to install it.
