John McAfee. A larger-than-life software mogul, radical businessman, two-time presidential candidate, and urban internet legend, or at least that's what the tabloids said. Former Team McAfee CEO Jimmy Watson might tell it differently, though - back when he met John, all he wanted was a simple bodyguarding gig. Jimmy digs into how his friendship with a certain French Foreign Legionnaire (Taylor Cavanaugh, of course) led to his meeting with the man himself and the wild series of events that would follow in this exclusive clip from Episode #183 of the Mike Drop Podcast.

@@gunnerwright7793 That's complete bs unless you completely water down the definition of madness. I reckon you don't know many scientists and your perception comes from popular media. Let me tell you, "the best" scientists - which is already a pretty undefinable category - are almost entirely very down to Earth people who simply spend a LOT of time looking at VERY specific things. You'll only ever hear of them if they happen to win a Nobel Prize or manage to achieve a fundamental breakthrough in a field that's of direct interest to the general public, like if someone managed to create a working theory of quantum gravity, for example. None of them are mad, though, and if you were mad, you absolutely wouldn't be able to comprehend the complexity of contemporary scientific research. Albert Einstein wasn't mad, Stephen Hawking wasn't mad, Marie Curie wasn't mad. Just to name a few people who are actually well known publicly. John McAfee, in contrary, _was_ mad. In fact, he was a complete lunatic, unhinged addict, and probably mentally ill. It is very unfortunate because he was a smart human being, even though I wouldn't call him brilliant at all. But most importantly, he wasn't a scientist to begin with. And I'm sure he would've never wanted to be one.

I grew up in a military family, so I moved around a lot Langley to Hawaii and then when my father got out Salem Virginia, which is where John mcafee family is from and he has lived there on and off. He went to college there at Roanoke College. Anyways, back in the day he was a big hiker on the Appalachian Trail. They name the spot about 15 miles outside of Salem on the Appalachian Trail after him. Mcafees knob it’s probably the most scenic place known on the Appalachian Trail. There was a movie made about the Appalachian Trail comedy. I don’t know about five years or so ago in one of the big scenes was filmed up there there’s this weird I don’t even know if you call it a cave system it was rocks carved out by streams 10,000 years ago just a really cool place and it’s on top of this mountain with this huge ledge that hangs out and you can see all of Roanoke. The most scenic place on the Appalachian Trail and it was John McAfee they named it after since he basicallygave it the publicity needed to make it known

When I was in Boy Scouts, we used to do that hike at least once a year across the street from that is another cool one called dragons tooth it’s shorter than the McAfee knob. But both are great hikes cool places to camp right by there too if you’re into that From the parking area I believe McAfee is about a 4 to 5 mile hike. So that’s about a 10 mile round trip hike where is dragons tooth is probably more like a 3 mile so what 6 miles there and back dragons tooth though does have some areas where it’s almost like rock, climbingbut it’s only about 15 feet of that. Also I should say the last time I hiked it was over 20 years ago so they might’ve did some more work to it to make it easier.

It was a lie. And thousands of people fell for it because they're such "critical thinkers", they fall for every conman around who simply tells them what they want to hear. I hope you didn't believe in this. The number of Americans who run to those conspiracy nuts like moths to a flame whilst throwing away any and all intellectual competency just shows how decades of destroying political education can backfire. If you completely focus on "mass processing" people in the education system to make them usable for the economy without teaching them anything about the system they live in, about arts and culture and the diversity of life, then you'll create a nation of hillbillies who don't even see the irony in running around covered in white bedsheets. Edit: It's utterly ridiculous how easily people will believe your lies if you only preface them by claiming that everyone before you is corrupt and the ""real"" lier. Tell them facts aren't real and everyone is out to get them and all their misery is caused by your opponents. They'll immediately follow you like sheep to the slaughter. It's just so freeing to convince yourself that all the problems and suffering you had to endure are not your own fault but instead caused by some nebulous figures in Washington D.C., and that you never had any agency in it. Not having to take accountability is great, you only need to totally detach from reality and dive deep into a cult like community where there's hardly ever a way to come back from.

The guy he supposedly killed owned the only bar on ucf property and spent his life savings building it. He had a house in Belize with McAfee as his neighbor and McAfee had vicious dogs that would get out and one day one of his dogs ended up dead and he blamed him for killing his dog and they think that’s why he ended up dead, and McAfee was responsible for it. I installed doors at the bar when it was being built and the guy was telling me how he sold everything to start his new business
